Well… SO I first went back and clicked on the last October JFW .exe file I had and the prompt of Jaws made changes to your computer. Restart for changes to take affect etc. Came up. I thought… … … cool maybe it’ll work after all. The PC restarted and I got the notification to modify/repair of which I selected repair. I let it do its thing. Pressed the various OK buttons and after it restarted again… … … the same reply/forward bug appeared.

So I figured, I’ll go ahead and just install the new JFW 2018 released today and as was suggested, not migrate any settings. Did the whole song and dance. Restarted the machine. Went through the startup wizard and… … … Low-and-behold, I’ve got the reply/forward bug on this new JFW version as well.

This is the only real issue I’m encountering. And on this one machine. JFW 2018 on my HP Envy laptop is working perfectly fine. At least not getting that reply/forward bug on it. Unfortunately, this is a rather noticeable bug and present on my main work desktop. Both running Office 2016/Windows 10.

I guess I’ll have to try uninstalling and reinstalling next. That will have to be with more time though.

I think someone on one of these lists said to also try removing shared components. I don’t think I want to do that… I don’t recall at the moment, but does removing shared components mean you’ll then need an activation key? I’m fairly certain that I’m currently at zero keys.

Anyway, something to worry about for tomorrow.

Why not just install Jaws 2018, I would say at this point to set it up from scratch and not merge your settings when asked just so you get the best possible experience which is not effected by possibly some problem in your user settings.

Jaws 2018 does not require you to repair Jaws 18, in fact you could completely uninstall Jaws 18 and it would make no difference to Jaws 2018.

Hello list,

So, I’ve been dealing with this issue since Jaws 18 was put out on 9/26/17. Along with the Outlook address thing that later got fixed, I was having trouble when replying or forwarding message in Outlook. Arrowing down was not possible. Jaws would behave as though I was at the bottom of the screen. Even if I arrowed up once and then tried going back down to the line I was previously at, I’d encounter that same barrier. Navigating the message body of text with the read by paragraph or sentence commands, Jaws worked as always. It was just the read/navigate by line that was giving me problems.

VFO tech support emailed me instructing that I should try doing a Jaws repair. Do the copy path from my JFW .exe file and add the / type repair at the end in the run dialog box.

As I saw that Jaws 2018 came out today, I figured I’d try to get this resolved. I for one reason or another hadn’t had the chance to go through with the repair, but figured I should try addressing it before upgrading to JFW 2018.

In any event, I went through the repair process earlier today and along with all the other typical Jaws chatter when doing an installation (I was using a JFW.exe file from October that addressed the Outlook issue), I heard Jaws say something about a sentinel system driver not being copied. By the end of the process I then got the following error message:

The JAWS setup package could not install the required component

JAWSRepair. The process will now exit.

OK

I already wrote VFO back about this, but as it’s Jaws 2018 release day, I don’t expect a follow up any time soon as I’m sure they’ll be dealing with all sorts of stuff related to that.

Anyone have an idea on what this is or how to fix it?

Thanks,

Cristobal

That is what is so strange, it says it is authorized but it gives the correct number for being out of beta but it says it is beta
it runs fine but there is some kind of glitch and BFO is even stumped right now.
It gives your correct serial number and the locking code and all but it says ILM beta after the version number.

i don't think the shortcut keys will work when both versions of jaws were useing the same keys. they would be in conflict.
i used control alt j for one and shift alt j for the other.
you have to hold down the keys then j to use these keys.

On my Win 10 fall creator laptop I have Jaws 18 installed. I downloaded
the new Jaws 2018 and ran it. It seemed to install correctly however
when hitting enter on the Jaws 2018 shortcut on the desktop nothing
happened. I went into program data and found that it looked like 2018
was installed, least all the files seemed to be there. I called FS
support and he had me try some different things and came to the
conclusion that Jaws 2018 wasn't really installed. He had me run the
install again and it seemed to fix the issue. Only issue I am still
having is that after assing control alt J to the Jaws shortcut as the
hot key it will still not work by hitting control alt J.
I have removed the shortcut for Jaws 18 from my desktop.

Hi Van,

Thanks. This is what I needed. I also have word 2010, but my client has word 2016. I hope this works for her.

BTW, you can check by pressing Insert plus F to find out things such as Font Double spacing and so on. It will also tell you if things are centered Left or right justified.

Thanks again.

James

I’m using Word 2010.  You can do as you have asked.  Start on the first page of your document and go to the Insert Ribbon. Tab over till you hit the Page numbers button, which has a menu. With options as to where to place the page number, top of page, bottom of page, etc.  For me, the second option down is to put the page number at the bottom of the page in the footer and it has a submenu allowing you to pick the style.   For my test, I selected the third or fourth one down that said something like ‘pg. 1”.  Hit enter on the choice you want.  When you hit enter, your cursor will be placed in the documents footer at the beginning of the line.  By default, the page number for this choice was at the left edge.  I supposed part of what you are choosing on the submenu is where you want the page number to be located, e.g., left, right, center, etc.  If you arrow beyond the page number, you can add a comma or hyphen and your name.  Hit Escape to exit out of the footer.  You can also use the standard Word shortcuts of Control L to left justify, Control  E to center and Control R to right justify.  Now, each time you add pages, the footer will automatically add the page number with your name.

I admit that I am using my bit of vision to confirm that the page numbers are as I have told you and  I don’t know the best way for you to validate your work.  Maybe using the JAWS  cursor to read the page.

I had uninstalled the beta before installing this new version.

When I check the Help, About, I do not have the word beta.

Hello everyone,

I just got off the phone with VO tech support and anyone that updated there Jaws 2018 out of beta and downloaded and installed the regular

version today you might want to go in to your jaws settings and check what it says in the about box and you might find the same thing I did.

Mine said jaws 2018 ILM beta 2018171036. I just got off the phone and tech support doesn’t know how to fix it right now.

They even had me remove my jaws authorization and re authorize it and that still didn’t fix it.

I just thought I would post this just incase any one else had this problem.Jesus dyed for us, why can't we live for him?

New to Jaws. I have two /SMA's and assume one will be used by this upgrade. Is it my understanding that if you have a SMA FS also sends you a new copy of Jaws on disc?
Thanks
