Joseph:

I need to clarify that I'm not talking about navigating Groups.ioh on the web site. Instead, I'm referring to being unable to navigate an e-mail group that I create myself, in oreder to send certain targeted e-mails to a designated list of individuals to which I want to send specific information.

I appreciate your response, though.

Google calls that screen reader chrome Vox. You toggle it on and off with the control plus alt plus Z combination. If you are familiar with using Google Chrome on other machines, you will probably find it easier to maneuver vann I am as a new google chrome user on my laptop. Hi, Tom. What happens if you arrow down once, then perform the following keystroke:

JAWS key plus number eight on the number pad, not the numbers row below the function keys.

Each time you down arrow the JAWS key plus eight key should give you the new current name.

If you can not get the caps lock to turn off, try using shift plus the letter when you need a lowercase letter. Essentially doing the opposite of what you will normally do to get a capital letter when typing.

Hello,

I finally installed JAWS 18 on my home laptop yesterday – a Windows 10 HP machine.  I have it set up to require a password to log into Windows.  I had no trouble with logging in when I first installed JAWS.  However, later in the day I got around to changing the caps lock to be a JAWS key, which is how I have Window Eyes set up.  I then changed the settings to stop having Window Eyes load at start-up and, instead, have JAWS start.   Finally, I had started to update JAWS 18, per an update prompt I got from JAWS.  I didn’t think it was downloading and I thought I’d cancelled it, but later, as I was doing something else, I think I heard JAWS say that it had started the install process for the newest version.  So, I think I’m on the version I received back in July with the WE migration, but it’s possible I’m on a newer release of JAWS 18.

So here’s the problem.  I left to make dinner and when I came back, my screen was locked.  I entered my password, but discovered that the caps lock is on and I cannot get it to release so that I can type in my password with lowercase letters.  When I press the caps lock key, it says nothing, which makes me think it’s acting as the JAWS key.  What do I do?  The thought I had on the way to work today is to shut down the laptop and see if I can get caps lock to function normally before JAWS loads.  Not sure if this will work, but that’s my only other idea.   Is this an issue for others?

Hello, everyone.

I just updated my Jaws 18 here to the latest Jaws 18 build—version 18.0.4350.

On my desktop, I now have two Jaws icons. One simply says Jaws, and the other
says Jaws 18.0.

Is this normal?

If I wanted to eliminate one of these icons, which one would it be, or should I
just leave well enough alone?

I am using Windows 7 here on a Dell Lattitude laptop.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, Mike.

When I click on either Icon, the normal Jaws window comes up.

Re: Help! locked screen issue

Jonas,

Thank you for that suggestion.  I’ll try that when I get home. Is that what I will always need to do when I want caps lock to work normally in JAWS?  In Window Eyes, the default was to be caps lock unless I held it and pushed another key.

Try pressing Capslock 2 times very fast and it will work as normal!

Subject: Help! locked screen issue

Hi, Mario. By "enters" Brian means "new line" characters. In other
words, don't press Enter within the message to create a new line or
paragraph.

Brian, um... what do you mean by "enters"?

First and foremost, yes, you can text from e-mail (and there's been lots
already offered in that regard) and, if you get a response, you can
respond in e-mail. The one thing you absolutely must remember, though,
is not to include any "enters" in your reply. Most e-mail providers
now strip these so the whole text message goes through, but some still
do not, and if they don't the first enter in your message will be
treated as the end.

The above being said, if you have a Google Account you can get a Google
Voice phone number (at no cost) and then use the Google Hangouts
website, PC app (if you use the Chrome browser), or Android and iPhone
app to text to your heart's content. There have been occasions where
I've helped someone set up a Google Voice number where none were
available in their home area but that's not a huge deal since you can
pick another nearby, or not so nearby, area that does have numbers
available. When I helped my cousin, who lives in Phoenix, set hers up
we ended up choosing a number in the area code for Newport News, VA.
Signing up for a Google Voice number is done at

(

) .

You can also text directly from Google Voice, but that's only possible
from the PC. The reason I switched all of my texts and calls to be
redirected to Hangouts is because I can have it running on my PC and
Android phone and both will ring at the same time or give me the "new
message alert" at the same time. While this isn't useful if I'm sitting
at my PC it sure is when I'm out and about with only my Android phone.
Redirecting ones calls and texts from the native Voice setup to Hangouts
is nothing more complicated than checking a checkbox in Hangouts under
the Google Voice heading that reads, "Receive SMS and voicemail in
Hangouts."

If you're a Google user it's worth considering.
