Hi all: Just acquired my first laptop, an ASUS Transformer. Have JFW
18 installed, and at startup, I hear "windows locked screen," and I
don't seem to find any way out of it. I'm a tad lost as to the laptop
keyboard layout and need to get into a position where I can use the
JAWS help function and press the keys to learn the pertinent
differences. Any hints on how to get out of the locked screen?

ctrl + d is supposed to do that but in 1703 and 1709 it deletes the icon...

There was a way to toggle that on and off, but I cannot remember, and in my
notes it says to go to personalize in the context menu, and change the
theme, but now I cannot figure out how to be on the desktop without having
one of the icons selected in order to get the desired context menu. My notes
say to press f 5, but that is not unselecting the icon.

I was a Window Eyes user. With W.E., when leaving a program I was returned
to the desktop. With Jaws, I have to hit windows-D to get there and
sometimes have to hit it twice. to return to desktop. Is there something I
can change to get directly to desktop, upone closing a program?

That works fine when Alt+f4 gets me out, but sometimes it doesn't, so I started using Alt+f+x. However, I like the Alt+Spacebar+ Up Arrow, since it says close. I'm not only on the Desktop, I have the security of hearing that the program is closed.

Carolyn

Hello there;
I'm running jaws18, windows10,
And when I'm in a program, for example, outlook, When I press alt+f4, I get placed back on the desktop.
I make sure, that the taskbar is clear.
By default, windows has internet browser, media player, windows explorer, etc., So, I did unpin these items from taskbar.

i don't know how to explain it. but windows m does not minimize all program screens. if you can see at all try it.
load a program that you can open a dialog within the program. then press windows m. focus will go to the desktop but the dialog will not minimize. it will stay on the screen.
when you use windows d everything is minimized. includeing that dialog box.

I realized immediately when you said that, guess I'm used to stuff like that happening to me.

thats windows d. grin
i think this depends on many factors. the type of video hardware is in the computer. what programs and drivers that are loaded. etc.
my computer has never gone directly to the desktop after i close a program in windows 7 , 8 or 10.
when i first boot the computer focus is on a invisable screen from eset smart security. etc.
it does this weather or not window eyes is loaded. it still will not go to the desktop without haveing to use windows d.
