JAWS ducking up and down, but it's okay
Ashleigh Piccinino
Hello, I’ve been experiencing that thing where JAWS ducks in and out as it’s reading. However, this is with my headset with mike. It’s okay though; just hard reset screen reader with insert windows and f4. Ashleigh Piccinino Other than that, no major things here.

Re: Windows 10 upgrade to Windows Creator?
Hi, Yes. The one I linked is unique in that various screen readers are represented (not just JAWS), welcomes Windows Insiders, news on upcoming Fall Creators Update and future developments are regularly posted, changelog of cumulative updates are posted on the day of their releases, and is actively monitored by Microsoft staff, particularly Narrator developers and folks working on other accessibility initiatives. Cheers, Joseph

Re: Linked-in with JAWS
Charles Krugman
Unfortunately LinkedIn has become more problematic with JAWS. I haven't made any profile changes lately but the design of LinkedIn has changed and there are labeling problems with some of the buttons on the pages. In the past I did get some telephone technical assistance from them but it was a result of an on line survey about LinkedIn that I participated in. They could definitely improve their web accessibility for screen reader users. I primarily use it for participation in professional groups which are quite useful.

Re: Which Antiviral Programs Now Work Best with JAWS?
Mario,
Then avail yourself of the Microsoft website. None of the formal documentation states anything in conflict with what I've offered. If you have only Windows Defender running on a Windows 7 or earlier system it does not include an antivirus component. Two pertinent threads from answers.microsoft.com: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10/microsoft-security-essentials-for-windows-10/16ec3399-e20e-48a0-bf06-bf1208a864a7 https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_start/microsoft-security-essentials/5118072d-2a69-4a89-a416-864cf70ddd88 the second of which contains a direct link to one of quietman7's in-depth posts on BleepingComputer about best practices for security and that again reiterates what I've said and the Microsoft site itself says. Windows Defender, prior to Windows 8, is not an antivirus product and if you don't have either Microsoft Security Essentials or some third-party antivirus or security suite running the conclusion is obvious. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1703, Build 15063 (dot level on request - it changes too often to keep in signature)

after about 3 hours, he fixed the issue that checking for updates got stuck. after he finished, I noticed that there was only Windows Defender installed as a program for protection. I asked him about also installing Security Essentials, and told me what I previously posted. this guy was not the guy that answers the calls, he was the technician (the guy at tier 2). Vista was also included in the OSs I mentioned, but who is still running Vista these days...

From: main@jfw.groups.io [mailto:main@jfw.groups.io] On Behalf Of Mike Ulrich
Good morning. I’m running w7 and I installed J18.0 and when I open my Outlook 2010, I’ve noticed I don’t have much in the menu bars/ribbons ETC. When I hit control N, to bring up a new email, and I’m in the message body and then hit the alt key; I only have what JAWS says is virtual ribbons and then it says: To move within the virtual ribbons use tab or shift tab or the arrows. But when I hit any of the arrows, tab and shift tab: Nothing!
So I guess I have to change some setting? Can anyone give me some suggestions on where to start?

the MS help desk tech said that Security Essentials was basicly phased out and replaced by Windows Defender which is a combination of antivirus and antimalware. it is also been improved over the years it was being developed. it should work fine in systems running w7, 8/8.1 and 10.

Thank you. I had the box for all users checked. It is now unchecked. That is what was checked when I loaded the program. Since I am the only user, I didn't think it would make any difference. I guess I will find out when I reboot, but this sounds as though it should help.
