If that is so why did Apple decide to put Voiceover into everything they make? I know it's maybe not entirely out of the goodness of their hearts, but I do also think that large companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and so on do have a social/moral conscience and while we may wish it might be larger, it is there. Also, to put it all on the shoulders of "corporate America" is I think not quite correct, look at what communism achieved.
I do agree that as our population ages accessibility in all forms will become more and more important and get more and more attention.

I agree with you but this is the way are society has chosen to or should I say not chosen to deal with minorities. If you dont affect the bottom line you dont matter...
Welcome to corporate America.
But fortunately (I know this sounds horrible) Some of the people running the software world are starting to lose sight due to old age and this is a big part of what we are seeing in the field but it still isn't enough.
As all the programmers and developers start getting old things will change much faster than they have so far.
It is either personal interest or profits that rule this industry.

Me too, I thought firefox/Mozilla sucked. I guess in order to use Firefox/Mozilla you have to do a bit of accessibility set up so it'll work with JAWS?

It may be just IE 11.

Have you tried Mozilla FireFox?

I use it exclusively these days. IE ends up doing too many odd things along with with eating CPU resources.

BTW: you should only have one anti virus program that stays running. If you have more than that, it’ll cause all kinds of problems.



I don’t know much about Windows Defender, as I run the old Microsoft Security Essentials. But it sounds like you might be virus and malware clear.

I ran a Malware scan a couple of weeks ago …… nothing found at that time. Is Windows defender something I need to run a scan to check for this or does it automatically do this for me? I don’t have any other virus protection software on this system.

Oh yes, I agree for a struggle. I did not make myself clear. It is the ongoing struggle that I intend to avoid. I learned that before I stepped down as our card group facilitator. There was a woman who came, and for about three months, she literally struggled. I finally told her that I noticed that she was struggling, and she admitted that she was trying to learn. It was getting annoying to other players, so I just gently kept showing my concern for her struggles, that it might be a better idea to find something more fun for her with less stress. Finally she did. It was a lesson to me. I am not kidding. She really was struggling. I could see that for a few times, but not week after week two days a week.

Anyway here is some help I was trying to give and it ended up at the bottom of the message so I am posting it again:

Here is how to run windows defender:

click start then type defender click on it.Tab once then arrow down to virus and threat protection. Click on it then tab until you hear advanced scan.
Click on it. then tab until you hear full scan radio button checked. If this is not selected select it and then tab until you hear scan now button click
on it.

after a while the results will appear and you can view them with the Jaws or touch cursor...

I ran a Malware scan a couple of weeks ago …… nothing found at that time. Is Windows defender something I need to run a scan to check for this or does it automatically do this for me? I don’t have any other virus protection software on this system.

If that is so why did Apple decide to put Voiceover into everything they make? I know it's maybe not entirely out of the goodness of their hearts, but I do also think that large companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and so on do have a social/moral conscience and while we may wish it might be larger, it is there. Also, to put it all on the shoulders of "corporate America" is I think not quite correct, look at what communism achieved.
I do agree that as our population ages accessibility in all forms will become more and more important and get more and more attention.

Welcome to corporate America.
But fortunately (I know this sounds horrible) Some of the people running the software world are starting to lose sight due to old age and this is a big part of what we are seeing in the field but it still isn't enough.
As all the programmers and developers start getting old things will change much faster than they have so far.
It is either personal interest or profits that rule this industry.

It may be just IE 11.

Have you tried Mozilla FireFox?

I use it exclusively these days. IE ends up doing too many odd things along with with eating CPU resources.

Defender is always running but it is a good idea to do a full scan once in a while.
It sounds like you know how so I would do a full scan now.

click start then type defender click on it.Tab once then  arrow down to virus and threat protection. Click on it then tab until you hear advanced scan. Click on it. then tab until you hear full scan radio button checked. If this is not selected select it and then tab until you hear scan now button click on it.

after a while the results will appear and you can view them with the Jaws or touch cursor...

Hi,

This may sound over-simplified, but if you can not close IE11 with alt-f4, the simplest way to do it is to close it from within the task manager. I am running windows 7 so can not tell you how to do it if you are running windows 10, but here is what I do.

press control-shift-escape.
Press shift-tab once and left or right arrow until it says processes tab
tab once and you are in the running files tasks list
once you do this step once, task manager will stay in this setting until you change it

type the letter i and if it does not land on iexplorer, arrow down until it does
press alt-e to end the program and answer yes or OK

This will close out the program. Press the escape and the task manager will close.

This may seem like a lot of steps if you haven't done anything like this before, but it is easy and a small task worth remembering as it can come in handy quite often.

Me too, I thought firefox/Mozilla sucked. I guess in order to use Firefox/Mozilla you have to do a bit of accessibility set up so it'll work with JAWS?

It may be just IE 11.

Have you tried Mozilla FireFox?

I use it exclusively these days. IE ends up doing too many odd things along with with eating CPU resources.

Actually, I don’t know how to run a full scan or any other scan for that matter …… As far as the Malware scan I ran, I had great step by step instructions from a very good friend on how to start it and then I arranged for sighted help to stop by about an hour later and tell me what was on the screen …… Looks like I’ll be adding this to the list of things I need to learn ……

Defender is always running but it is a good idea to do a full scan once in a while.
It sounds like you know how so I would do a full scan now.

I also highly recommend to simply use Windows Defender which is already on your PC and as Randy says it works.

It won't shut off your computer, but to me that is not something I would even want it to do.

More and more websites don't work well with IE since as far as I know Microsoft is no longer putting any development into IE.
IE still works fine a lot of the time, but everybody here who said they tried Firefox really should install Chrome and give it a good try since it is way faster than anything else in terms of loading pages and it is extremely accesible now.
I do have a few websites where Chrome does not read some information and I need to contact Jaws since I believe this maybe something they need to look at, but I use Chrome as my default browser and just switch to IE if I run into problems and this seems to work for me much better than doing it the other way around.

No it works just as is... I dont like the way book marks or the history.
are handled but otherwise it works fine. there are some sites that display better with firefox but IE is my primary browser. Chrome works way better than it used too but it has the same problem with book marks and history.
As for IE Of course if it works well for blind people it will be phased out... You cant have IE anymore here is Edge it is so much better...

No it works just as is... I dont like the way book marks or the history.
are handled but otherwise it works fine. there are some sites that display better with firefox but IE is my primary browser. Chrome works way better than it used too but it has the same problem with book marks and history.
As for IE Of course if it works well for blind people it will be phased out... You cant have IE anymore here is Edge it is so much better... Yeah right.

It may be just IE 11.

Have you tried Mozilla FireFox?

I use it exclusively these days. IE ends up doing too many odd things along with with eating CPU resources.

BTW: you should only have one anti virus program that stays running. If you have more than that, it’ll cause all kinds of problems.



I don’t know much about Windows Defender, as I run the old Microsoft Security Essentials. But it sounds like you might be virus and malware clear.

I ran a Malware scan a couple of weeks ago …… nothing found at that time. Is Windows defender something I need to run a scan to check for this or does it automatically do this for me? I don’t have any other virus protection software on this system.

Hello,



During the past few days, when I enter on a link from a web site for a specific page, sometimes I get a fairly long message saying something about “the security of this site cannot be verified”. When this happens I cannot get it to go away; when I press alt + f4 or try to go back to the previous page Jaws just keeps repeating this message. This morning it happened again and I kept pressing alt + f4 about six or seven times and finally it got me off the internet.



Sometimes this occurs and sometimes not. The web sites I’m speaking of are ones that I’ve used regularly for a long time without any problems …… This does not happen every time and does not happen on all web sites.



One of the web sites is accuweather.com <http://accuweather.com> …… I go to this site, read the three day local forecast, and then click on extended forecast”.



Again, this problem does not occur every time and it does happen on some other web sites. I’m using Jaws 18, Windows 10, and IE 11. Does anybody have any thoughts on why this is happening? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
