Hi,

This may sound over-simplified, but if you can not close IE11 with alt-f4, the simplest way to do it is to close it from within the task manager. I am running windows 7 so can not tell you how to do it if you are running windows 10, but here is what I do.

press control-shift-escape.
Press shift-tab once and left or right arrow until it says processes tab
tab once and you are in the running files tasks list
once you do this step once, task manager will stay in this setting until you change it

type the letter i and if it does not land on iexplorer, arrow down until it does
press alt-e to end the program and answer yes or OK

This will close out the program. Press the escape and the task manager will close.

This may seem like a lot of steps if you haven't done anything like this before, but it is easy and a small task worth remembering as it can come in handy quite often.

day local forecast, and then click on extended forecast".


Again, this problem does not occur every time and it does happen on some
other web sites. I'm using Jaws 18, Windows 10, and IE 11. Does anybody
have any thoughts on why this is happening? Any suggestions are greatly
appreciated.

Me too, I thought firefox/Mozilla sucked. I guess in order to use Firefox/Mozilla you have to do a bit of accessibility set up so it'll work with JAWS?

It may be just IE 11.

Have you tried Mozilla FireFox?

I use it exclusively these days. IE ends up doing too many odd things along with with eating CPU resources.

BTW: you should only have one anti virus program that stays running. If you have more than that, it’ll cause all kinds of problems.

I ran a Malware scan a couple of weeks ago …… nothing found at that time. Is Windows defender something I need to run a scan to check for this or does it automatically do this for me? I don’t have any other virus protection software on this system.

Actually, I don’t know how to run a full scan or any other scan for that matter …… As far as the Malware scan I ran, I had great step by step instructions from a very good friend on how to start it and then I arranged for sighted help to stop by about an hour later and tell me what was on the screen …… Looks like I’ll be adding this to the list of things I need to learn ……

Defender is always running but it is a good idea to do a full scan once in a while.
It sounds like you know how so I would do a full scan now.

I also highly recommend to simply use Windows Defender which is already on your PC and as Randy says it works.

It won't shut off your computer, but to me that is not something I would even want it to do.

Windows Defender. Works well does not get over active with blocking real programs and well, I dont get virus's so...

More and more websites don't work well with IE since as far as I know Microsoft is no longer putting any development into IE.
IE still works fine a lot of the time, but everybody here who said they tried Firefox really should install Chrome and give it a good try since it is way faster than anything else in terms of loading pages and it is extremely accesible now.
I do have a few websites where Chrome does not read some information and I need to contact Jaws since I believe this maybe something they need to look at, but I use Chrome as my default browser and just switch to IE if I run into problems and this seems to work for me much better than doing it the other way around.

Defender is always running but it is a good idea to do a full scan once in a while.
It sounds like you know how so I would do a full scan now.

Thank you sir, I’ve been pretty busy this morning, so I’m glad I finally had a chance to check back.

I’ll go forward with the uninstall right now.

 

BTW: I’ve just now noticed that when I hit F7 to spell check this email; no speel check happened. Then when I went into the menu bars, or virtual ribbons, any of the things listed in there didn’t give the Jaws short cut keyboard commands?

 

Then I opened up a word doc, and F7; spell check, worked flawlessly.

 

Any suggestions?

Hi Mike,

 

If I remember correctly, after JAWS17 any JAWS installation from version 15 and earlier will not allow version 17 and later  to run correctly. It is best and recommended to remove version 12completely. If you remove shared components it will affect the other versions; therefore, leave the shared components.

Hi, I just downloaded and installed J 18.0. So now I have J12, J16 and J18 on my laptop. I want to uninstall my J12. So when I went into programs and opened up J16, there was an option to uninstall. Then there was two options; to just uninstall Jaws, or to uninstall Jaws and shared components. Seeing as I have J18 on my laptop; should I select to uninstall just J12 or select to uninstall J12 and shared components?

Even though  JAWS is set not to, it still reads indentation info, as well as all punctuation.

alt then down arrow to book marks then arrow to import book marks and other settings.
then Choose the browser you want to import from.
then tab through  the options and deselect anything you dont want imported. Then tab to import settings and hit enter.
For me at least the next page is not accessible and the done button doesnt work but the process has finished and you just exit and restart chrome.
I tried the touch cursor but that got stuck in a slider that even tabbing just increased or decresed as I tabbed back and forth. when it got to 300% I just closed the window.

Yes, I actually prefer IE, but my bank's website doesn't play well with JAWS and IE, so I have to do battle with Mozilla so I can log onto my account on that bank's website. Because in IE, JAWS won't see the log on button. Go figure, right?

The sad fact is: IE is going the way of XP, and won't be supported very soon. So I guess we have to figure out how to make Mozilla work.

Have you tried Mozilla FireFox?

I use it exclusively these days. IE ends up doing too many odd things along with with eating CPU resources.

I ran a Malware scan a couple of weeks ago …… nothing found at that time. Is Windows defender something I need to run a scan to check for this or does it automatically do this for me? I don’t have any other virus protection software on this system.

Almost sounds like you might of picked up either a virus or some malware?

Hello,



During the past few days, when I enter on a link from a web site for a specific page, sometimes I get a fairly long message saying something about “the security of this site cannot be verified”. When this happens I cannot get it to go away; when I press alt + f4 or try to go back to the previous page Jaws just keeps repeating this message. This morning it happened again and I kept pressing alt + f4 about six or seven times and finally it got me off the internet.



Sometimes this occurs and sometimes not. The web sites I’m speaking of are ones that I’ve used regularly for a long time without any problems …… This does not happen every time and does not happen on all web sites.



One of the web sites is accuweather.com <http://accuweather.com> …… I go to this site, read the three day local forecast, and then click on extended forecast”.



Again, this problem does not occur every time and it does happen on some other web sites. I’m using Jaws 18, Windows 10, and IE 11. Does anybody have any thoughts on why this is happening? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hey Kevin.  The alt f, I, e works for me in Word, but not in Excel. 

 

Also, all the settings for “auto fill, but it still does not auto fill?

“Speak of the devil”, I just heard an announcement from Windows Defender that it scanned my P C 5 times and no threats were found.

Have you received any such announcements?

BTW: you should only have one anti virus program that stays running. If you have more than that, it’ll cause all kinds of problems.

 

I don’t know much about Windows Defender, as I run the old Microsoft Security Essentials. But it sounds like you might be virus and malware clear.

 

I’ll have to pass your question off to others on this list.
