Non conforming table won't read field contents

Shannon

Hello,
I am working with our time keeping program. It is totally non-conforming. This is one that I have had to get third party scripts written for.
Here is my current issue and I don't know if it also needs scripting or if I just don't know how to make JAWS read.
I use Control tab to jump from a table into another table. The first two cells read when I tab to them but the next three do not read at all when I land in them
The first one has the job name and number. The second has the code for the work done. The third is a graphical holding place that shows different indicators, which I don't expect to read. The Fourth and fifth have the start and end times.
These are my problem. I need to know what time is the in and out. The arrow keys letter by letter will read the info but the info is not said when I land on it. Letter by letter is very inefficient.
The read cell doesn't work since this is not a recognized table. The insert Tab to read field and contents only tells me that it is an edit box. The up arrow actually will move me up and down in the table, not leaving me where I need to be.
Is there a setting that will tell Jaws to move the cursor to the next field and read the contents automatically?
Is there another set of keys that will read the current field?

Thanks
Shannon

Hi folks,

If this has been covered in another thread please accept my apologies. I haven't been reading messages with generic titles like "a couple things" (not a real title recently).

Using Research It I can't get definitions from Research It. I've noticed this for the past three days or so.

Using Jaws 16 on Windows 7. Both of these are fully updated.

Thanks,

try refreshing the screen Jaws + esc. Then click on the item.

Windows does not give size info for folders. Just files and drives. If you want to know the size of a folder you have to alt + enter on the folder then use the jaws cursor to read the size of the folder by arrowing up until you hear the size of the folder.

Hello Everyone,

I migrated to JAWS last month. I am still earning things of course.

My first question is for Windows 7, Windows Explorer. If I go through the list of folders etc. using the up or down arrow, how do I hear the amount of space that specific folder or drive is using?

Next I just used Duxbury for the first time since I migrated. I got a message asking me if I wanted to have the JAWS scripts installed. I selected yes and the Duxbury restarted as indicated. I was wondering if there may be other JAWS scripts which I may find of use. How do I find a list? Does Goldwave have a similar script? I did not get a similar prompt when I used Goldwave in the past few weeks.

Thanks in advance for any help.

For me the size column is only filled for drive or file nodes, not
folders. The properties method will work for folders as well.

Hello everybody. After working on this issue with the Microsoft Accessibility Answer Desk, I know what actually happens. When JAWS hangs up, I lose speech and Braille, JAWS is actually still running. To stop it, you can kill the JAWS service. To do this, run Narrator, then bring up the task manager using the Alt+x keystroke to bring up the menu then press the letter t. Use first letter navigation to find the application file for JAWS. Tab to the End button and activate it. This will allow you to restart JAWS. You're not done. Please call VFO Technical support and report the issue. Tell the tech support person to associate your issue with Ticket 304937. As a work around, you can shut down JAWS, start your application with Narrator, exit Narrator and restart JAWS.

Hi List,

Actually, I have been having this same problem with the last 4 updates. When I am using JAWS 18 on my Windows 10 machine, it will work fine for a while; however, JAWS suddenly crashes without notice. It always happens when I am using Microsoft software, including Outlook 2013, Word 2013 and Internet Explorer 11.

The problem first occurred in the early versions of JAWS 18, then it was fixed in a few builds, then it started occurring again around January or February. The latest update worked fine for about 2 hours, so I thought they had it fixed again, but then it crashed.

When JAWS 18 crashes, I cannot seem to generate an error report and other screen readers won’t work properly either, so I have to turn off my PC and turn it on again with the on/off button.

JAWS 17 works fine all the time, so I am unloading JAWS 18 and launching JAWS 17 until I can get this fix.

                Any help will be appreciated.

                Thanks in advance,

Hi Barbara,

Withe a drive or folder highlighted, try the following:
1. Press, Alt + Enter, to open the drive / folder properties.
2. Route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor by pressing, Insert / Jaws Key + NumPad Minus / Jaws cursor key.
3. Press the, Pageup / 7 key, to take the cursor to the top of the screen, & arrow down 1 line at a time to get all the size, used space, & free space information.

Re: specifying where to start in goldwave

Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>

You may want to check out the use of queue points.
If you use control-e and get the file playing just ahead of where you want the second file to start, get it playing, and at the point you want the second file to start, hit the letter q.
On the tools menu, select cue points, tab to split file and hit enter.
You will be able to specify the folder, file names, etc.
When you get it going, it will create two files based on what you fill in etc.
The help file has gobs of gory detail on this.

I have not used the control-w keystroke. If you do a jaws-h and you
have the goldwave scripts installed, there are keystrokes to see
where the markers are.

set to 41 minutes ....

shift-e allows to specify both markers by time.

yes, that'll work, but I was hoping of a way to specify where I wanted
to move the start marker to instead of scrubbing to that position.

just hit the left bracket key after positioning the playback cursor
where you want and that will do it.

using goldwave, I want to seperate a long mp3 tutorial that contains 2
tutorials and have tried the specify command from the view menu, but the
start and finish markers are reported as being set for the same amount
of time when I press control+w after I am returned to the window.
for example, I press control+w and the start and finish markers ar
reported as being set to 24 minutes instead of the finish marker being
set to 51 minutes. and even pressing control+shift+end does not make a
difference; both markers are still reported as being set to 24 minutes.
is there another way to move the start marker to a position other than 0
while leaving the finish marker at the end of the mp3?

Re: Problem with JAWS 18 latest version and the applications key?

Hi, It was just a bad install. This happens once in a while. :)

Hi all,

I was told that my install of JAWS was not performing as it should.

Last Friday I called for support on uninstalling and reinstalling JAWS.

I was told to go and get the full file of the latest release and download and install it  over the top of what I had and then to choose the repair  from the menu.

After that my computer was just acting odd in the File explorer.

I had a file I needed to rename and here was a different problem.

Today I noticed that the applications key was not working with JAWS or NVDA or WE. The pull down would not read with the keyboard. The mouse commands in all three screen readers had to be used to activate any of the choices. When this was pressed Focus was lost and I had to alt and tab back to get focus back in the explorer window.

I thought to myself what did you do last?

Today I went back to the file I downloaded on Friday, ran it again and this time chose to Uninstall JAWS. After I restarted the machine the Applications key while in the file explorer window was working again.

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I haven’t reinstalled JAWS yet.

Did anyone here notice anything like this?

Thanks

Shannon

Re: MS Containers.

Right ow my issues are with the container interface. I havent been able to even get an image to load...

If containers are like any other virtualization system jaws is not

I do suspect that even if installing jaws in the container works that
you won't really be able to use it from whatever console the container
presents, that you'll need to use RDP.

And note that you should never activate jaws in any sort of virtual
system, much better to pay the $200 for the jaws remote access option.
