Non conforming table won't read field contents
Shannon
Hello,
I am working with our time keeping program. It is totally non-conforming. This is one that I have had to get third party scripts written for. Here is my current issue and I don't know if it also needs scripting or if I just don't know how to make JAWS read. I use Control tab to jump from a table into another table. The first two cells read when I tab to them but the next three do not read at all when I land in them The first one has the job name and number. The second has the code for the work done. The third is a graphical holding place that shows different indicators, which I don't expect to read. The Fourth and fifth have the start and end times. These are my problem. I need to know what time is the in and out. The arrow keys letter by letter will read the info but the info is not said when I land on it. Letter by letter is very inefficient. The read cell doesn't work since this is not a recognized table. The insert Tab to read field and contents only tells me that it is an edit box. The up arrow actually will move me up and down in the table, not leaving me where I need to be. Is there a setting that will tell Jaws to move the cursor to the next field and read the contents automatically? Is there another set of keys that will read the current field? Thanks Shannon

Wiktionary doesn't work from Research It
Lee Maschmeyer
Hi folks,
If this has been covered in another thread please accept my apologies. I haven't been reading messages with generic titles like "a couple things" (not a real title recently). Using Research It I can't get definitions from Research It. I've noticed this for the past three days or so. Using Jaws 16 on Windows 7. Both of these are fully updated. Thanks, -- Lee Maschmeyer "Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise." --Lewis Carroll

new problem with update
Carol Smith
Hello Group Members,
Since I updated to the latest version of Jaws, I have a problem that occurs when I am in Windows Explorer, on my Win7 computer. I can find the file I am looking for and Jaws speaks the title. When I press enter on it, it opens a different file or folder. This was a problem that would occur in Window-Eyes, but was easily resolved by placing the mouse pointer in one of the corners of the screen. I have not been able to make this stop in Jaws. Has anyone experienced this and been able to stop it from happening? Thank you for any help. Carol

Re: A Couple of Questions

Windows does not give size info for folders. Just files and drives. If you want to know the size of a folder you have to alt + enter on the folder then use the jaws cursor to read the size of the folder by arrowing up until you hear the size of the folder.

Hello everybody. After working on this issue with the Microsoft Accessibility Answer Desk, I know what actually happens. When JAWS hangs up, I lose speech and Braille, JAWS is actually still running. To stop it, you can kill the JAWS service. To do this, run Narrator, then bring up the task manager using the Alt+x keystroke to bring up the menu then press the letter t. Use first letter navigation to find the application file for JAWS. Tab to the End button and activate it. This will allow you to restart JAWS. You're not done. Please call VFO Technical support and report the issue. Tell the tech support person to associate your issue with Ticket 304937. As a work around, you can shut down JAWS, start your application with Narrator, exit Narrator and restart JAWS. Paul

Did you try running a JAWS repair (on version 18)? This procedure fixed JAWS crashes I was encountering earlier this year. I’m still experiencing crashes, but they seem to be related to very specific situations.
From: main@jfw.groups.io [mailto:main@jfw.groups.io] On Behalf Of Don Moore
Hi List,
Actually, I have been having this same problem with the last 4 updates. When I am using JAWS 18 on my Windows 10 machine, it will work fine for a while; however, JAWS suddenly crashes without notice. It always happens when I am using Microsoft software, including Outlook 2013, Word 2013 and Internet Explorer 11.
The problem first occurred in the early versions of JAWS 18, then it was fixed in a few builds, then it started occurring again around January or February. The latest update worked fine for about 2 hours, so I thought they had it fixed again, but then it crashed.
When JAWS 18 crashes, I cannot seem to generate an error report and other screen readers won’t work properly either, so I have to turn off my PC and turn it on again with the on/off button.
JAWS 17 works fine all the time, so I am unloading JAWS 18 and launching JAWS 17 until I can get this fix.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Don

Hi Barbara,
Withe a drive or folder highlighted,
try the following:
1. Press, Alt + Enter, to open the
drive / folder properties.
2. Route the Jaws cursor to the PC
cursor by pressing, Insert / Jaws Key + NumPad Minus / Jaws cursor
key.
3. Press the, Pageup / 7 key, to
take the cursor to the top of the screen, & arrow down 1 line at a time to
get all the size, used space, & free space information.

I believe you should be able to simply right arrow to it, or it may also involve using the Windows classic theme.

Re: specifying where to start in goldwave
Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>
You may want to check out the use of queue points.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
If you use control-e and get the file playing just ahead of where you want the second file to start, get it playing, and at the point you want the second file to start, hit the letter q. On the tools menu, select cue points, tab to split file and hit enter. You will be able to specify the folder, file names, etc. When you get it going, it will create two files based on what you fill in etc. The help file has gobs of gory detail on this. HTH, Richard
