excel 2016 question

brian albriton

Feell free to write me off list since this is not strictly a jaws question.

I have a column of figures in excel and one cell after writing the number 6 shows:

1/6/1900

The cells above and below show simple numbers when I type them in.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. All the best and have a stellar weekend, Brian

Word2016. FS is aware of the problem and was able to replicate it. Tables in all other programs work fine.

I have the latest version of Jaws 18 and never have any issues with table navigation, even when Jaws 18 was in public beta I don’t recall that there was an issue.

What document format/application do you use with tables? Are they in Word, Adobe Acrobat or anything else?

The table problem in Word is not fixed. I was the one who reported it. I updated, did repairs, did a reinstall, and it still does not work. With that said, FS has been contacted about it again.

Just FYI if any of you guys use tables a lot like I do. Stick with an older version for the time being.

You can also use CTRL shift and j as I do. Note, I don’t use this because of difficulties—I have none in my hands. However, it might work better for those who can’t move their left index finger much. I would also test out the hotkey you use just after placing it—that’s what I do to make sure it works.

All your settings will be saved, but you will need to set a hotkey again to start JAWS. The shortcut will be on your desktop, but the ALT plus CONTROL plus J hotkey will need to be reassigned.

When you hit the print screen button on your computer it automatically copies it to the clipboard and what you do is you go into paint program, then you hit control V to paste it in there and save it as a document and send that back to the technician, hope this helps. John Martin MARTYN

Re: Editing footnotes in MS Word

Thanks Steve, this helps a great deal. I was hoping to speed up Jaws's
super-tardy response rate by finding a way to edit footnotes
consecutively; your solution seems to be doing the trick for now.

On 7/13/17, Steve Griffiths <steve.griffiths@guidedogs.org.uk> wrote:
Hi Carina,

I have Word 2016, and in that I can convert footnotes to endnotes and vice
versa. Endnotes are grouped at the end of the document, so you could make
your edits there, and then convert them back to footnotes.

If you think it's worth a try, the way to convert is to open the document,
go to the References tab of the ribbon and open the footnote and endnote
dialogue. The keytips are Alt, S, Q.

Focus is on a Footnotes radio button. DownArrow to Endnotes, then Tab to and
press the Convert button. OK that, then Tab to and press Close.

Now you should find all your footnotes at the bottom of the document; Ctrl +
End and then DownArrow to them. The numbering may have changed to Roman
numerals; you can use the Number format control in the same dialogue
mentioned above to change them to numbers if you prefer. If so, note that
when you change the number format you then need to Tab to and choose the
Apply button - there is no OK button.

When you've finished your editing, move the focus out of the endnote area,
then return to the footnote and endnote dialogue and do the reverse of
before; UpArrow to Footnote, Tab to and press Convert, OK that and Tab to
and press Close.

Hope that helps,
Steve

Hi all,

I'm writing to ask advice about editing footnotes in a large document (about
400 pages, containing around 550 footnotes). Is there a way to display all
the footnotes simultaneously in an **editable viewer so that, instead of
using the virtual viewer and following links to individual footnotes prior
to making adjustments, , direct editing is possible? Jaws becomes
frustratingly unresponsive whenever footnotes are involved; hence my
question. I appreciate this is a global (and largely unresolved?) issue.
Nonetheless, any assistance would be hugely appreciated.

Carina

Yes but if you want to be sure it is pasting an image go into the menu and under clip board select paste special. then you can see that there is a .bmp. image being pasted. Otherwise you have no way of telling if it did paste the screen shot.

Jaws wont say image or anything...

Subject: Re: an update question

Bill, I couldn't believe about the hot keys, stupidly unloaded JAWS. You're right. So, I had to shut down blind, as it were. Now, could you tell me please how I reset the hot key. I think that is the most idiotic thing I can imagine happening with JAWS. For years, I've used that key combination to load JAWS. Thank you for the steps and for telling us, so I wasn't caught by surprise.

Best from,

Carolyn

All your settings will be saved, but you will need to set a hotkey again to start JAWS. The shortcut will be on your desktop, but the ALT plus CONTROL plus J hotkey will need to be reassigned.

Re: seeking JAWS friendly project management and collaboration programs

Kamal haffar <khaffar@...>

Hi:
This is also an area of interest for me. I emailed VFO tech support not too long ago and asked them if they are aware of a PM software that works well with Jaws. Their response is that the last version they supported with Jaws was Project 2003. I believe Microsoft is putting a lot of resources in making their Office 365 accessible. I am assuming this also applies to their Office 365 Sharepoint component.

Thank you,

I am a project manager at my company. I rely on Excel for project management. It's still clunky, but at least accessible. I've not heard good things about Project.

As for collaboration, we use a few things in our company. Internally we use network drives, SharePoint, and another project tracking tool called EPPIC. WE also used to use a wiki media platform. I don't use EPPIC much and my colleagues aren't thrilled with it. I don't think it's that accessible, but I'd have to go test it more to be sure.

SharePoint is not bad if you are just adding documents and maintaining document items. Designing pages does not work well with speech at all as it's often reading lines well above where the cursor is actually. There is an accessibility link on the page which essentially makes drop down menus appear on a new page. I do rely on some of my remaining vision, but I can test things more if you need help.

Everything we do in our company is behind a firewall. If you are sharing documents with outside people, you might see if Google docs would work for you.

Happy to talk more if you'd like. I'm sure we can learn from each other.

Subject: seeking JAWS friendly project management and collaboration programs

Hi everyone,
I took over a project management role in my organization. Being new to the position, I have not worked with different PM software before. Can anyone recommend a program that is fairly JAWS compatible? And similarly, I am collaborating on a project with a team at different locations and from different organizations. Is anyone aware of a collaboration platform that is JAWS friendly? I have heard the MS SharePoint is somewhat accessible, but that you must purchase outside tools to help improve its usability. If anyone is aware of a good platform for project/document sharing, I would appreciate any tips.
Thanks!
Joe
