That could indeed be the case.

The next time I get an example, I’ll contact the sender if appropriate and try to find out.

The thing is that the issue doesn’t occur consistently, which makes the cause all the more difficult to track down.

I'm in the market for a computer for a new college student who may be majoring in math or computer science, but, then, maybe not.

What does the Lattitude get you that the Inspiron doesn't that may inform this purchasing decision?

Also considering MacBook options, if anyone has a view on that as an alternative.

Thanks, Keith

Hi Les,

I find the price tag of most of the Microsoft Surface products (tablets or laptops) quite steep.
Is this Surface Pro you refer to a tablet or laptop? If it's a laptop you really might want to consider higher-end offerings from Asus or other manufacturers, not sure if you really gain anything by going with Microsoft other than spending more money.
My thought is that you probably want 16 Gb of RAM, 8 is not enough and 32 Gb for most people is more than you need.
As for SSD space, 1 Tb is of course better than 512 Gb, but unless you are saving massive amounts of music or photos and especially videos, 512 Gb is most likely going to do you. I bought an Asus Zenbook with a 512 Gb SSD and find it is plenty big enough for my approx. 26 or 28 Gb iTunes music library, most of the several thousand photos I have collected over the years and in my case I even have OneDrive set up to also sync to my Office 365 Business account and keep all my business documents on the laptop.
There are so many options now with online storage or external drives either USB or network attached that if you need several Tb of storage that would be the way to go.

Regards,
Sieghard

That sounds like a big difference. In August of 2015, I bought a Lenovo Windows 8 with a 1 TB, and the computer was $500. Of course, it took a whole lot of updating, but it's been a good one. So $500 for 500 gb, a dollar a gb, huh?

I am planning to purchase the new surface pro that was recently announced. My main concerns are to get enough RAM followed by the processor speed. As for the SSD Drive, I'm looking at a 512 GB unit or the 1 TB unit. I'm leaning away from the larger hard drive due to the $500 difference in price. It seems rather high to gain an additional 500 GB.
Am I missing something here which should be considered in my decision? Thanks.

Hi All,

I am using JAWS 16 with Windows 8.1. On a new laptop that I was recently
given at work, I have been facing the following problem.
When I press keys that represent symbols on the keyboard, JAWS speaks out a
completely different name for the key than the one I entered.
For instance, if I press shift plus apostrophe for the quotation mark, JAWS
will read that as 'acute accent'.
Even if I press escape and get out of that edit field and try reading its
content, what JAWS speaks out is often different from what I typed.

While I am able to type what I want to after a couple of tries, this really
slows up the process. Further, JAWS also speaks out some letters with accent
or umlaut even when I simply type the letters.
What can I do to fix these issues? Thanks very much.

Best,
Rahul

question on jaws finder

john clayton

Hello all,

I am new to this list but not really new to using jaws. However recently I find myself using the jaws finder a lot of times, and had  a question so figured what place better than here to ask about it?

My question is,is there a way jaws can find multiple words or look for not just 1 string but more than 1?
I.E currently,if I do ctrl f when browsing a page, and type john for instance jaws will look for the occurrence of the word john on the page. now is there a way I could make it look for not only john but also  jane on the page at once?
So that when I press f3,it gets to me either of the words it finds first, press f3 again and it does the same?
If this can only be done through scripts and the like, could someone help me out as I am not at all good with jaws scripting and bairly know a thing about it.
Thanks.

Tool tip I don't know what to do to get more information using win 7 64 bit. I had to turn window eyes back on to write the message, when I tried to use jaws, the keyboard would not write, just gave me verbage. I pressed insert spacebar, but that did not take me out of whatever mode I was in that made the keyboard unusable.
