OverlayWindow0 keeps coming up

marvin kotler

Good evening list.  First, running jaws 18 and windows 10.  Recently, something called OverlayWindow0 keeps coming up.  I cannot do nothing with it, so if there is a way to disable it or uninstall it, I would appreciate hearing how to do this; thanks in advance;

Hi, is this issue resolved? I do have a dongle since I experiment so much I was running out of keys all the time. :)

Re: to change announcement of cell content and coordinates to coordinates and cell content

This is a way over complicated approach to what you need to do. Just use a use statement at the top of the script in order to import the XL.JSS file into your new script and it will automatically. Towards that script no matter where the location is. Thanks Johnny Martyn

Hi,  here it is.  this only applies to jaws 17 and 18.
Earlier version
of jaws doesn't give us access to the source code we need.
I do not have win 10 so I can't be sure whether the path to
the file is
the same as win 7.  These instructions are put together
using win 7.

to change announcement of cell content and coordinates to
coordinates
and cell content do the following

1.        Copy the excelFunc.jss file from
"C:\ProgramData\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\17.0\Scripts\"
And paste in to
"C:\Users\your user Id\AppData\Roaming\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\18.0\Settings\enu\"

2.        Open excel

3.       Press JawsKey + 0 on the number row to open the
script manager
with the excel script loaded.

4.       Press control + O to open the list of files, it is
a standered
dialogue

5.       Look for the file ExcelFunc.jss and press enter.
This will
bring up the script set we want to work with.

6.       Search for ReadActiveCell, it should be the second
occurrence.
The line should read void function ReadActiveCell(optional
int
bForceReadCoordinates)

7.       Here we are going to cut and paste the following
line
SayCellText(cXLActiveCell.text) which should be the next
line

8.       Move 12 lines down press enter for a new line and
paste the
line you cut in there.  The script should look like the
following:

void function ReadActiveCell(optional int
bForceReadCoordinates)
if cXLActiveCell.mergeCells
&& MergedCellsAnnounce() then

SayFormattedMessageWithVoice(vctx_message,ot_JAWS_message,ms
gMergedCells,cmsgSilent)
EndIf
SayObjectCellInfo(oXLActiveCell)
if CellReadingVerbosity() == readCellContentsAndCoordinates
||
bForceReadCoordinates then
     if cXLActiveCell.mergeCells then
        SaySelectedRange(true)
     else
        SayCellCoordinates(cXLActiveCell,ot_position)
     endIf
endIf
SayCellText(cXLActiveCell.text)
if NumberFormatVerbosity () then
     DetectActiveCellFormatChange()
EndIf
if CellBorderVerbosity() then
     detectActiveCellBorderChange()
EndIf
if cXLActiveCell.ContainsErrors then
     sayMessage (OT_ERROR, msgCellContainsErrors)
endIf
EndFunction

9.       Press control + S to compile the script

10.   Close the jaws script manager with alt + F4

In the event you wish to change back to the original
navigate to
"C:\Users\your user Id\AppData\Roaming\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\18.0\Settings\enu\"
And delete the ExcelFunc.jsb file

I hope this helps

You should submit feedback for this. Then call the disability hotline. As it is going to be very hard to diagnose and probably is going to require a reinstall witch may or may not fix the problem...

JAWS just says "Tab" with a huge delay and nothing more. Using the touch screen I can go through the things on the screen but JAWS is very slow. When I press another key on the keyboard the focus jumps into the password field which is good. I can even navigate with Tab now but every announcement from JAWS comes with a huge delay. It takes a second or two after pressing a key. So I sign up and the desktop appears. Usually JAWS works fine now but sometimes the extreme slugishness follows JAWS through all things I do.

With NVDA or Narrator these problems do not exist and it works well. So there isn't a process that slows down the whole system. The delay after pressing a key is also very static so its not a performance issue.

Even more strange: At the sign-up screen where JAWS reacts so slowly I can start Narrator. As soon as Narrator is running JAWS works well without any issue. But of course NARRATOR and JAWS are speaking simultaneously and so that isn't a solution. ;) When I turn Narrator off JAWS again acts badly like I described above.

I ran the JAWS setup again "/type repair" but it didn't help.
Do you have any idea? Is there something I could try? I want to avoid reinstalling Windows.
Thank you very much for your help!

Maybe it is a Jaws 18 thing. Since you are on Jaws 16 maybe that is why it is not the same?

That could come in handy if it works the same on Win 10 and jaws 18.

My second insert key is not in the six pack. I don't have six keys in that grouping. My delete key is the size of two keys. My second insert is directly right of the F12 key in the function keys row.
Just if that helps at all.

My second insert key is not in the six pack. I don't have six keys in that grouping. My delete key is the size of two keys. My second insert is directly right of the F12 key in the function keys row.
Just if that helps at all.

Hi, here it is. this only applies to jaws 17 and 18.
Earlier version
of jaws doesn't give us access to the source code we need.
I do not have win 10 so I can't be sure whether the path to
the file is
the same as win 7. These instructions are put together
using win 7.

to change announcement of cell content and coordinates to
coordinates
and cell content do the following

1. Copy the excelFunc.jss file from
"C:\ProgramData\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\17.0\Scripts\"
And paste in to
"C:\Users\your user Id\AppData\Roaming\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\18.0\Settings\enu\"

2. Open excel

3. Press JawsKey + 0 on the number row to open the
script manager
with the excel script loaded.

4. Press control + O to open the list of files, it is
a standered
dialogue

5. Look for the file ExcelFunc.jss and press enter.
This will
bring up the script set we want to work with.

6. Search for ReadActiveCell, it should be the second
occurrence.
The line should read void function ReadActiveCell(optional
int
bForceReadCoordinates)

7. Here we are going to cut and paste the following
line
SayCellText(cXLActiveCell.text) which should be the next
line

8. Move 12 lines down press enter for a new line and
paste the
line you cut in there. The script should look like the
following:

void function ReadActiveCell(optional int
bForceReadCoordinates)
if cXLActiveCell.mergeCells
&& MergedCellsAnnounce() then

SayFormattedMessageWithVoice(vctx_message,ot_JAWS_message,ms
gMergedCells,cmsgSilent)
EndIf
SayObjectCellInfo(oXLActiveCell)
if CellReadingVerbosity() == readCellContentsAndCoordinates
||
bForceReadCoordinates then
if cXLActiveCell.mergeCells then
SaySelectedRange(true)
else
SayCellCoordinates(cXLActiveCell,ot_position)
endIf
endIf
SayCellText(cXLActiveCell.text)
if NumberFormatVerbosity () then
DetectActiveCellFormatChange()
EndIf
if CellBorderVerbosity() then
detectActiveCellBorderChange()
EndIf
if cXLActiveCell.ContainsErrors then
sayMessage (OT_ERROR, msgCellContainsErrors)
endIf
EndFunction

9. Press control + S to compile the script

10. Close the jaws script manager with alt + F4

In the event you wish to change back to the original
navigate to
"C:\Users\your user Id\AppData\Roaming\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\18.0\Settings\enu\"
And delete the ExcelFunc.jsb file

I hope this helps

3 keys. In conjunction with the F key that should give you 4 keys to
reassign. Where did you find the F key? If I have one I will try it
and see what happens.

But now all of the other F keys say nothing when in Key describer

Can we use the F key and the now silent F keys for JAWS commands?

Apparently Excel is the only app still using it to stop the arrow
keys from moving the active cell while you arrow around the document.
My keyboard doesnt even have it.

Groove is the Music app for win 10. Yeah, mine too the only ones I use are the volume and calculator though.

Welll yours is different. The key you describe as the F key starts calculator on mine... One of the big keys left of the volume started Groove. One made my computer freak out for a minute before I could use it again! :) On 7/6/2017 11:58 AM, Randy Barnett wrote:

Randy,
Just to give you an idea of which kind of Logitech keyboard I have(my
keyboard has a bunch of media keys at the very top along with a
Volume dial in the center.

On my Function Key row, Right after the F12 key is another set of 3
buttons insert, print screen, and Pause. There is a space and a
stand-alone key just to the right of that group. It is the same size
and shape of the F keys only all alone. That one is the FN key. After
that is a raised round button and it brings up the calculator. To the
right of that round button is a depressed concave button, that one
will put the computer to sleep.

When I hear about the Six pack I don't have one of those. My six
pack is a five pack two wide and three down. The delete key is large
and takes the space of two keys.
This key board has lots of buttons that I have no clue what they do.
The key describer doesn’t know either. Smile. I think that there are
some that can be programmed to be short cuts for programs? There is
one up on the top right that when pressed launches Outlook for me.
There is an odd assortment of keys on the left side of the keyboard
that seem to do something with scrolling and left and right clicking.
They are funny shapes and one of them is a roller. Never did know
what to do with them If this key board came with instructions I don't
have them anymore. I am not even sure that the model is written on it
anywhere. Oh, another thing, it is wireless, and it pairs to the
wireless mouse docking station if that helps.

Mario, I pressed Windows-B, Up Arrow a couple of times, and it read time, like 3:56 PM and Wednesday, 07/06/2017

Yes and in the system tray at the bottom of the list is the time followed by the date... that solves the issue...

Hello everyone,

I was pressing some of the keys in response to the message reply below. Suddenly I heard "scroll lock on" but have no idea what I pressed to elicit that prompt. I don't know what that key function is, and if I have now activitated it, how can I de-activate it?

Thanks for any help on this question.

Carolyn,
That is brilliant!
I don't know the persons key board but mine is different again.
My second insert key is not in the six pack. I don't have six keys in that grouping. My delete key is the size of two keys. My second insert is directly right of the F12 key in the function keys row.
Just if that helps at all.
My second insert key works just like yours. And my two keys are right next to each other for that JAWS feature Time and Date.

This is Carolyn here, and I took my left hand first, then my right.
With each, I used my thumb to press the Insert Key on the six pack and my index finger to press F12 twice, and it gave me Wednesday, July 5 and the time. The Insert on my six pack and the Arrow keys with my keyboard work in JAWS for me - JAWS 18; Windows-10; Outlook 2013.

Hi Carol,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, your suggestion does not solve my problem. Imagine you only have one hand and you can only press one key at a time. How can you lock the JAWS key so you can press
F12 twice quickly to hear the date?

BFN!
