Re: How do I lock the Insert key?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply.

I tried Insert Key Mode, but it didn't work. Yes, it makes the Insert
key sticky, but it doesn't lock the Insert key for keystrokes like
pressing F12 twice quickly while holding down the Insert key.

Imagine you only have one hand and you can only press one key at a
time. How can you make JAWS speak the date?

While composing a message in Outlook, you can also use ctrl-k to insert a
hyperlink (you're prompted for the destination of the link and for the text
to be used as the link anchor in the message).

Clearing cookies

Hello,

I’m using Windows 10, Jaws 18, and IE 11.  I’m locked out of my FB account and was instructed to clear cookies in my browser.  I don’t know anything about cookies and don’t know the first thing about how to do this.

Could someone please help me with step by step instructions on how to clear my cookies and any tips as far as settings (things I should or shouldn’t do)?

Thank you,

Re: How do I lock the Insert key?

Mike Rogers

Here's the information that I recieved from the list and it works great.

This is found in the Settings Center (Insert-6).
First, after arriving in the Setting Center, press Control-Shift-D to load the global settings.
Then, expand the User node, and arrow to Insert key mode.
By default, it is unchecked, and so you would check it by pressing spacebar on it.
Incidentally, you can tab once after focusing any option to jump into the description pane and read the details for any setting, and you can use up and down arrows to read all the information available.
Finally, tab to Ok to apply and save your settings and close the dialog.

Interesting. Sticky keys is not a screenreader thing, but apparently the
ability to use it to lock the insert key is. I personally can't reproduce
that with JAWS 14, at any rate.

Unicode Characters and BrailleIn

Dr. Aleksander Pavkovic <a.pavkovic@...>

Hi there,

a few weeks ago I have asked about the possibility to enter Unicode characters using the BrailleIn feature, e.g. on an ElBraille.

In a slightly different context I came across a hint on how to enter special characters in Microsoft Word when there is non um pad available. Just entert he hex value oft he character followed by ALT+C (in WordPad: ALT+X).

This means that, if you know the hexadecimal value of for example a letter with umlaut or an accent, just enter it on your Braille keyboard, then press dots 6,8 chord (the Alt portion oft he keystroke) followed by c (dots 1,4).

This will help me a lot in using the ElBraille typing in various languages.

Best regards,

Aleksander

Hello,
I have installed Jaws18 and get an error message during windows 10 startup.
It indicates that Microsoft active sync is not installed properly and desctop packmate cannot be activated.
Jaws and Windows come up and work after I press ok.
My search in Google results in information that active sync is for mobile devices and available for old Windows versions only.
Please advise what to do.

Re: Big problem with JAWS and Excel.

Allan <allan.milne@...>

Ralf - good idea; tried copying a spreadsheet to my c:\temp foder ... and also created a new spreadsheet in that folder ...
in both cases it appeared to work fine and then after entering a few rows of data (approx. 10 rows) I got the sticky behaciour with extreme slowness in responding to keystrokes again ...
so no difference from the oneDrive cloud folder behaviour I found earlier!

Perhaps the only further information is that it appears to misbehave only when adding new cells; navigating around a spreadsheet with existing cell contents does not seem to cause the behaviour.

I'm using Office on my local machine.

Any further ideas?

Yes, Kelly. I read the same thing. My issue has been that, when I
navigated to Account Settings within my NLS BARD account and attempted
to find a user key to load onto my PAC Mate Omni, I couldn't find one.
The only devices this online source points to, are ones marketed by

PAC Mate seems to have been removed from the Learning Ally Website and
is therefore deemed to be out of date.

Hence, my next step was writing to the primary JAWS list and to the
PM list, which might still have a few active users. I purchased my PM
Omni on the aftermarket from an individual who lives overseas and who
is not a U.S. citizen. So obviously that PAC Mate was not in the
beginning registered with NLS, if that even used to be possible.

I have written to the NLS BARD community about the specific problem I
am attempting to solve here and might even get hold of someone at the
Open Library project itself. I will note on this list any solution I
