Hi,
Windows 10, Jaws 18, Office 365, F6 to the status bar gives me word count just fine.
Control shift L inserted a bullet.
Cheers Kevin.

In Word 2016, one method that works for me is hit alt+q which brings up the help edit box, type character count and hit enter.
You will get page count, page number, word count, character count without spaces and character count with spaces, ...

Apparently, somewhere out there, there is also a classic menu that you can install so the menu looks like the older, more user friendly, menu system. That was referred to with a Google search.

Is it available from the proofing menu? Seems as if I recall, but it's been a while. Doing book reviews, and other publications, often requires an accurate word count, but Medicaid is seldom that exacting. Bureaucratic writing and literary style are usually mutually exclusive.

Hi Adekoya ,

I tried it just for fun, although I seldom need to know the character count. Well, I'm running JAWS 18 and Windows 7. It didn't work for me either. In fact, with Windows 7, and Word 2016, I got something screwy when I tried the first suggestion of control plus shift plus l.
Maybe you are all talking about Windows 10, which I hope I never have to learn. (LOL)

I only put my 2 cents in to validate your dilemma.

Re: Blocking email addresses in Outlook2016

Portia,

If you wouldn't mind, can you tell me if you are using POP or IMAP protocol to access your e-mail and if your e-mail provider happens to be Gmail?

You can do what you wish to do if you use IMAP access and you create a filter to delete the incoming message on the server side, not in your e-mail client.

Re: Having challenge with Character count in Microsoft office

Alt+R brings up the Review Tab, followed by W triggers the Word Count function.

Word count is also present in the status bar at the bottom left side of the MS-Word window by default (or at least it was in Word 2010 and 2013).  I have no idea of how to get focus on that, though.

be due to a text encoding issue or is there a setting in JAWS that is

I too have this issue with latest update of Jaws 18, Windows 10 and Excel 2016.
Some spreadsheets work fine, others do not - does not seem to relate to the size of the sheet or its complexity, in fact I can't find any correlation between the sheet and this abnormal behaviour.

The problem often starts with very, very slow (>10 seconds) response to any keystrokes in Excel to, for example, use the arrows to move to the next cell.
It can then get progressively worse with no apparent speech at all - leaving me in total ignorance of what is going on; sometimes I am able to ctrl-alt-del to the task manager and use this to close the Excel process but on a couple of occasions Jaws itself seems to have stopped and I have to restart.
)
I note the comment from one reply about non-local files; mine are all local but I do have them in my OneDrive folder and the office upload centre seems also to be doing some magic with them and wonder if this has anything to do with it.

I also note that no solution has yet been posted; I really do need a fix for this as I use Excel a great deal for my personal information and this is really starting to have a detrimental effect.

You'll need to use your message rules for that address and set it to delete the message when it arrives.

Can anyone help me with this as I block the email but I want it permanently blocked so I don’t  have to either see it in my inbox or my junk folder.
