But the applications developed here offers the correct information's for all controls.properties label? In previous versions of vs I found that sometimes no matter the way how I set upped the label properties of some controls, jaws wasn't able to catch this information. Especially in apps developed in VB and VC.

It's usable, in a lot of ways I would say it's not as good as vs2015 was at least when using it with jaws. For instance, in vs2017 the edit fields in the project wizard were voiced as edit fields (echo as you arrow back and forth) but that doesn't work in 2017 - even after adding a profile override to configNames.ini.

That being said, at least when using visual c++ the compiler is a real step forward. It found several nasty bugs just waiting to bite me that the vs2015 compiler didn't catch.

I’m using Open Book version 9 and Jaws 18 …… I can’t get Open Book to scan a document.  Usually I open the program and press the space bar to scan.  When I press the space bar to scan it says “Open Book untitled one”.  If I press the space bar again it says “Acquisition canceled”.

 

Can anybody help? …… I’ve never had this problem before.

Well said, Angel, if somebody has problems coming up with $120 every two years at once they should put a $5 bill in a piggy bank or jar every months or set up a savings account which is usually free and put $10 or $20 a month in that so they can use it for things like that. There will always be other emergencies where it's not a bad thing to have a few hundred Dollars readily available and having such an emergency fund which you don't touch except for dedicated expenses or emergencies is a good thing for those who otherwise live hand to mouth so to speak.

The only thing, I don't think you can pay $5 a month, I think you have to pay $120.00 in one whack, which is very hard for some people, who might find it easier to pay $5 a month. However, logistically, $5 a month would cost FVO more than $120 every two years - cost in terms of logistics, processing, cost of processing, recording, etc.

Given that if you have Jaws Home maintaining an SMA costs you all of $5 a month I don't know why you wouldn't simply buy the SMA every two years. It's I think $120 every two years and you get two major versions, so it's $60 per version. Jaws unlike NVDA is not a nonprofit organisation and as a business owner myself I definitely don't begrudge them this relatively minor amount of money. I know some people who don't work and are on some sort of assistance feel this is a heartship, but $5 a month I don't think can be considered a heartship as most of us spend this and more on al sorts of incidental items whether it's a fancy coffee, a beer once a week or cigarettes, in fact somebody who smokes usually wastes a lot more than $5 a month.

After you press Control+P for Print, why not just use the shortcut key for "Pages" which is Alt+G, then tab once, specify your page or page range and you are done.

I have a payroll report that is several pages sometimes only 2 but as many as 20.  I need to print a hard copy of the last page.

When I use WE I do a  Mouse find for the word “All”. Then I would use the mouse to read the different radio selections down to the page range box. Now I know how many pages there are in the  document 1 – 8 or 1 – 15 however many there are, I arrowed back up to the page range selection and click that radio button tab once to the edit box and type the number of the last page and press enter to print.

I can’t figure out the quick way to do this with JAWS. The JAWS find command will not find all. It always fails.

It is a lot of tabbing to get to the radio buttons and the page range is just past that

When you do this, can you figure out where the misspelled word is by pressing insert c for getting any context—reading the sentence/whatever to which the word pertains? Also, does it work in a Word document? Just for fun, I’ll edit my sociology notes that way later on, figuring this out for myself but keep this thread on here anyway for others.

Paul , thanks for this. I didn't know that was a choice. I just tried it and
that command works for me too.
The Alt F7 is just a bit different. It just takes the curser focus to the
word in the application that is marked as incorrect and from there pressing
the context key gives the choices of correction.
The spell check dialog talks too much for most of what I need.

Hello,

     As you press the CTRL insert and s command, you can also make the voice the default or use it in another app you happen to be running. If you note the first item on this dialogue, you should be able to use the default—shift tab if you don’t hear JAWS say, “for default” first. However, the press of the tab key once will get you to “for …” for your app in question. Of course, you cannot choose a person, just the synth, so be aware of that. Yet, just press enter/okay after you’ve made your selection. To test it, go back into that app and notice the voice/synth change automatically. Need any more help? Feel free to write back.

The peral camera is a little camera on a stand that connects to the open book software and when opened and standing isused to take picture of document and then processec in open book.  It takes the place of a scanner and shows up in the device choices.

Thank you …… I sent an email out a while ago letting everybody know I got the problem solved …… I unplugged the USB for the scanner and plugged it back in and it works fine now …… Just like you suggested.

IF it did work in the past, and your Pearl camera or scanner are turned on, then likely Openbook does not find your scanning device. Try closing Openbook, unplug the USB for scanning device, plug it back in, and then launch Openbook.

Thank you …… I sent an email out a while ago letting everybody know I got the problem solved …… I unplugged the USB for the scanner and plugged it back in and it works fine now …… Just like you suggested.

IF it did work in the past, and your Pearl camera or scanner are turned on, then likely Openbook does not find your scanning device. Try closing Openbook, unplug the USB for scanning device, plug it back in, and then launch Openbook.

Hi,

This checkbox shows up in file/folder copy dialog, and if checked, it’ll display things such as copy speed, filename and so on when copying files. Unless my memory is incorrect, it isn’t available in Windows 7.

In windows 7, if I copy a file, I don't get a dialog, but when I go to paste it, I can tab to a, More Information button, is this the checkbox / button you're referring to, or are the options different in Windows 10 verses Windows 7?  Thanks much.

Unplug your scanner, and then plug it in, with Openbook not running. Then launch Openbook. Likely OB has just lost the USB connection to your scanner.
...or is your scanner turned on?

This was all setup for me about a month ago and has been working fine until today.  I really don’t know about how to setup or much of anything else about this kind of stuff.  Is there a simple way to fix this problem? …… Not sure why this is a problem just out of the blue.

Did you set up the scanner in openbook before you tri to select it?

If there is no devices set up there will be no choice in the box and if it says scanner it is the defalt but will not work if you did not set up the scanner first through openbook

After I press enter on device selection it tells me there is a combo box to select the device.  I’ve pressed alt plus down arrow and alt plus up arrow and can’t open the combo box.  Is there another way to open this combo box?

I went to advanced in the menu bar

Down to select device and hit enter

Then just up or down arrow to the device I want to use.

Then hit enter to make that one the one to use.

It’s in the advanced tab under “device selection …” There, you should be ale to select your scanner and all. Please e-mail the group with more questions like this when you have them.
