Don,
Did not know that. Both versions are identical, so unless you are using JAWS in a company-based or professional organization, you should downgrade to the Home edition and save that money.

The only thing, I don't think you can pay $5 a month, I think you have to pay $120.00 in one whack, which is very hard for some people, who might find it easier to pay $5 a month. However, logistically, $5 a month would cost FVO more than $120 every two years - cost in terms of logistics, processing, cost of processing, recording, etc.

Not sure how that works and if you can even buy single upgrades. Given that if you have Jaws Home maintaining an SMA costs you all of $5 a month I don't know why you wouldn't simply buy the SMA every two years. It's I think $120 every two years and you get two major versions, so it's $60 per version. Jaws unlike NVDA is not a nonprofit organisation and as a business owner myself I definitely don't begrudge them this relatively minor amount of money. I know some people who don't work and are on some sort of assistance feel this is a heartship, but $5 a month I don't think can be considered a heartship as most of us spend this and more on al sorts of incidental items whether it's a fancy coffee, a beer once a week or cigarettes, in fact somebody who smokes usually wastes a lot more than $5 a month.

Ron Hutchinson? Now there's a throwback. In 1987, my first computer was an Everex 8088 running DOS, Ron Hutchinson's program VOS (Verbal Opeating System) and crappy old Votrax Typeandtalk. I live in Central OH, lived in Columbus at the time, so met him.

Well said, Angel, if somebody has problems coming up with $120 every two years at once they should put a $5 bill in a piggy bank or jar every months or set up a savings account which is usually free and put $10 or $20 a month in that so they can use it for things like that. There will always be other emergencies where it's not a bad thing to have a few hundred Dollars readily available and having such an emergency fund which you don't touch except for dedicated expenses or emergencies is a good thing for those who otherwise live hand to mouth so to speak.

I'm experiencing a similar issue. I have a Samsung 850 Evo SSD. Neither Jaws or Window-eys can read the strange UI of Samsung's proprietary software, Samsung Magician in order to enable the fast-boot feature called Rapid; however, this
is workable with NVDA. It does take a lot of mousing around with a physical mouse, as well as adapting to NVDA's speaking of the different functions; example, rather than Rapid, it will speak DRapid and you need to locate and click a button labeled DRapid.
I spent almost half an hour trying this with Jaws but simply not possible. But then, no screen reader is 100% perfect in all situations. It's all about the needs of the user.

Thanks. I was migrated to Jaws from Window-eyes so I may end up selling my Jaws and sticking with NVDA anyway as that's what I'veen using for around 2 years. Both my wife and I are unemployed so if I don't need to throw money at screen
access, so much the better for me.
More like seven or eight times per year. Not monthly

Given that if you have Jaws Home maintaining an SMA costs you all of $5 a month I don't know why you wouldn't simply buy the SMA every two years. It's I think $120 every two years and you get two major versions, so it's $60 per version. Jaws unlike NVDA is
not a nonprofit organisation and as a business owner myself I definitely don't begrudge them this relatively minor amount of money. I know some people who don't work and are on some sort of assistance feel this is a heartship, but $5 a month I don't think

Vic,
My believe is that the $120 was the price if you were running the latest version of Window-Eyes, that is 9.5.4 otherwise there was a slightly higher amount for users who were not on the latest version.

Hi all,
Anybody knows a daisy book reader more reliable than FS reader?
I have been facing this problem since years ago, and for all jaws updates. When I open a large book, this daisy reader crash. I need to read a school book, and I can't do that with Fs because always the program crash no matter which book I am opening. Looks like Fs doesn't handle very well large documents . Any advice?
Any other daisy book reader to be used in the computer?
Thanks in advance for all,

Hi Pam,
I wasn’t able to find the Settings link either, but, by following the below manual steps, it temporarily puts you in the light version. From there you just need to look for an “Options” link, click on that, go to Outlook versions, enter on that, and then check “Change to light version” or something similar. You must then arrow up to the save button and enter on it, log out and then the next time you log in, you should be in the light view. Make sure you delete everything after the question mark (?) in the URL, but not the question mark itself before you enter layout=light. Good luck.
Manual method: After signing in by whatever method (probably outlook.yourinstitution.com<http://outlook.yourinstitution.com><http://outlook.yourinstitution.com>), look at the address bar, it will probably start with something like the following: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/?blahblahblah Just go and delete the blahblahblah part, and put in layout=light, so the new address would be https://outlook.office365.com/owa/?layout=light

I went back to using Internet Explorer 8 because the mail interface changed so drastically and became too inefficient. It still works fine there, but I would like to go to IE 11.
I am trying to change to the light interface using Firefox or Chrome in order to test that, but I am not finding the settings.
Thanks for any help.

Am I understanding it correctly that Jaws gets a update once a month and a major update once a year?

I have my punctuation set to some in Jaws 18. On web pages I still hear the announcement of bullets. Is there a way to have Jaws not say bullet? Is there a way to specify exactly what punctuation and other symbols you want or not read? Thanks

Richard,
No I didn't have any SMAs for WE. I purchased my JAWS SMA probably within a week of getting my JAWS serial number.
Best Regards From Ohio,

Is this for two or three updates? I can't imagine you went beyond the 30 or 60 days time limit folks are talking about after getting your Jaws authorization.... I'd asked VFO for clarification.
