Google Music accessibility

John Martyn

Since this is a new topic and one that could use some attention, Google now
has a music interface to allow you to manage your music and allow you to
upload your library to access anywhere. The application that you download is
completely inaccessible. I might as well jump on this one while it is still
hot and see what I can do since this sounds like a cool thing we should be
able to access now that the android platform is starting to bloom in
accessibility. I'm sure there is an iTunes store app to access this content
so if you know of such an application, speak up.

I'll be jumping on this project right away so there will probably be a new
list created to for beta testing.

Anyone else have some interest in this?

John Martyn

Hi,
If I understand you correctly, the short cut is asigned to a icon on your desktop?
if this is right then do the following,
arrow to the icon that you want to change the short cut
once you are on the icon you want to change, then press the 2 key combanation alt enter
this meens hold the alt key down & then press the enter key
this will open the propities box for this icon
now tab down to the shortcut box & hit delete to remove the one in there, & now type the new one
now tab to ok
all going well thats it.

Hi,
I appreciated Rick's and your comments on using forms and older JAWS versions and your comments follow my post.

I agree. But how can one use older versions (prior to version 10) with Windows Seven?

Many thanks.

Yes, JAWS 9 also enables me to complete forms that I can't access with later
versions. Presumably, it's a result of that JAWS 10 video chain change,
whatever that entailed. Users might find it worth the minor annoyance of
retaining a pre-10 version of JAWS for this reason.

HI
I often switch between Jaws 12 and 7. Jaws 7 can fill out forms that can't
be filled by any other version, or at least I don't know how to do it. I
have short cut keys so it isn't difficult. There doesn't seem to be a
problem. I also have versions 10 and 11.

To remove a shortcut assignment, go through the same procedure you use to
set one. When you tab to the field with the mistaken letter, delete it and
replace it with the one you want.

Is this what you're asking?

Howard,

Okay, we're on the same page. If you haven't already done so, can you try
this experiment? As you know, the command works for the application where
focus is. Open two or three applications. Place focus in one of them and
perform the command. Alt-tab out of the application and make sure JAWS is
speaking in that second application. Then return to the application where
you tried to silence JAWS. Maybe it worked after all.

Dave, I am not Marsha, but I have swapped between JAWS 5 and 12 with no
problem.

I asked a tech support person at FS about deleting JAWS 4 and 5 just to pick
up a little hard disk space on my computer. She thought it would be best to
keep them because she was afraid it might somehow break the video chain.
Since I am not very adventurous when it comes to computers, I decided not to
delete the older versions.

Marsha,

Not surprised that JAWS 7 still has capabilities lost in later versions. But
I'd go nuts if I had to switch back that far. Also the video chain strategy
changed since then and I wonder if swapping from 7 to 10 or newer could
cause instability with your system. Do you swap between 7 and something new
like 10, 11, 12, or 13?

when in JAWS key identifier mode, you'll be told:

"toggles whether synthesizer is muted."

Adrian, I put on keyboard help, then pressed insert plus spacebar. I got a
pair of ascending click tones just like when help was off. Any following
keypress did nothing obvious.

In the past, maybe back to version 8, I could press insert plus control plus
s and get a list of synthesizers (now voice profiles). One of them was no
speech. No speech is not there any more. I thought of creating a new voice
profile which had speech turned off and using it when I wanted braille only;
but I can't figure out how to get it done.

Any further suggestions? Thanks.

It works in JAWS 11. Press insert-1 (the 1 above the letters) to go into
key
identifier mode to confirm. Use the same mode to answer your earlier post.

insert spacebar then s gives me a pair of upward clicks; then the s does
nothing. This is version 11.

Marsha,

How about Insert+Spacebar, then the letter "S"? Just remember to do it
again to turn it back on.

Hi
How do I put jaws to sleep for an application? I knew how to do it
in the earlier versions; however can't find it in Jaws 12. I want to
play the self-voicing accessible games. Thanks for your help.

If you get to the training materials section of Jaws 12 from the FS web
page, there's an explanation and demonstration of how to use IE9. It looks
like you'll need to download the mp3 file or the Daisy book manually from
their site, since Jaws13 only has books pertaining to that release.

Note that it is not a single key-press the way jaws+ctrl+s is, it is
two separate keys, first jaws+space then s. the jaws+space triggers a
layered keyboard mode from which a bunch of other modes are available.
It's done this way so that jaws only needs to use one top level key
combination to give access to these features rather than a different
top level keystroke for each.

Oh? All this time I've been cussing the navigation bar/address bar/search
bar/toolbar/favorite bar area and you say there's a simple solution? What
Help file are you referring to? I'm all for reading it immediately. Please

If your getting stuck in the navigation bar I would suggest it's simply
because you are not using it correctly. I have never got stuck in it and
don't find any problems. Have a look at the latest help within jaws for
guidance.

I really have not noticed a great deal of difference between IE 9 and
earlier versions except for that nasty tool bar thing, but that was
introduced in an earlier version. I cannot remember just when. As we have
learned on this list, getting stuck in it is a real drag, though control
plus F-6 seems to do the trick in getting out of the darned thing.
Sometimes, however, drop down things can get triggered. Then, it is a mess
to get rid of them. So, for instance, I frequently trigger the "favorites"
tab. This is not the Favorites menu with which we are all familiar. It is
something else and messes up everything, particularly in Google Docs (and
yes, I'm still struggling with Google Docs, albeit only when I absolutely
have to).
I managed to get rid of the favorites tab at one time, but haven't been able
to do it since.
Really, Freedom Scientific should send out some kind of disclaimer or
something. Perhaps it has, and I've just missed it. If I had a choice, I
would go back to a version of IE that didn't have that tool bar thingy -- at
least until Freedom Scientific comes up with a strategy to deal with it.

Can we assume yours is a Windows 7 system? IE9 isn't designed to work with
XP.

For what it's worth, while I don't use IE9, I believe comments on this list
have been positive.
