Re: On Line Bankingg Update

Hi Shannon,

I don’t want to assume the level of Jaws knowledge you have for navigating websites, but on a scale from 1 to 10 where 10 is super expert, where would you rate your knowledge of the tools and features Jaws offers? By those I mean things like using quick nav keys like c, b,t, l, r and so on as well as features like Jaws Find, setting bookmarks, making sure you correctly activate mouseOver links etc.

I am a Scotia Bank customer in Canada and also use the CIBC website as I have a Visa from them and while of course this issue Kevin describes may very well be impossible for Jaws to deal with, I have certainly helped people with problems which ended up being quite workable form somebody who really knows to get the most out of Jaws

I am also curious whether now that Kevin got an explanation of the problem if he can now get Jaws to do what is necessary without sighted help.

I have numerous times needed sighted help to explain to me what was going on before I could deal with it using Jaws by myself.

Regards,

Sieghard

Which FileZilla interface "Theme" is most accessible with JAWS?

Richard B. McDonald

Hi!

I am new to FileZilla.  In its Edit > Settings > Interface menu, there are a few different “themes” that can be selected.  Right now, I am using the “default” theme.  However, there are other choices such as “classic” or “minimal.”  Which “theme” yields the best accessibility with JAWS?  Are there any other tricks I should know to increase accessibility?

Thanks,

Hello,

I wonder if it would be in your JAWS startup wizard. As you go into there with insert j for the JAWS window, and alt h for the help menue before uparrowing to startup wizard, go to the page with your start JAWS at stuff and probably check the box that says “Start JAWS at log-on screen.” This might work ut don’t know; never done it. I always use the combobox which says has the start JAWS after log-on for thing. That, to me, seems the easier way, but there’s more than one way to do stuff, I guess. Try it and see if it doesn’t work.

Yes you can.  This is called "differentiate."  Press JAWSKey+6 to go to the settings center, and then type "differentiate" into the search field, and then review your options.  Be sure to be aware whether you are making changes to the default or a specific application's settings file.

Hi David,

You can try the following, it worked for me:

Note: The steps below were performed running Windows 7 & JAWS versions 15 thru 18.  These steps won't work with Windows 8 or 10, & why they won't is below my steps.

For those of you that have Jaws set to start at the Windows log-in screen, but it doesn't, this might work for you.  I looked in, msconfig, & found that JAWS Freedom Scientific wasn't at the top of the list on the Start-up Page / Tab, so this is what I did.
1. Press, Windows key + R, to open the run dialog.
2. Type, *msconfig*, without the stars, & press enter.
3. Press, control + tab, until you get to the, Start-up Page / Tab.
4. I arrowed down the list, & unchecked any items above, JAWS Freedom Scientific, on the Start-up Page / Tab.
Note: Only uncheck the items / programs above JAWS Freedom Scientific, & nothing else.  Pay close attention to what you uncheck because you are going to recheck these items / programs shortly.
5. Tab to the, Okay, button, press the spacebar, & tab 1 time to, Restart, & press enter to restart your computer.
6. Once your computer is booted up repeat steps 1 thru 3, & you will notice that JAWS Freedom Scientific is now at the top of the list.
7. Now, arrow down the list of items / programs on the Start-up Page / Tab, check the items / programs that you unchecked previously, & repeat step #5.
Now Jaws should start on the Windows log-in screen when your computer starts.  I did the above steps on 4 different computers, both desktop & lattop, &I'm not going to say it works everytime, but it sure works most of the time, which I can say is a damn site better than before I followed the above steps.

Take care.
Mike

This doesn't work with Windows 10.  In 10, when you get to that StartUp tab,

In my 10, the items in the StartUp tab seem to be sorted by name; not the
order of running.  Also in my 10, I have an Enable/Disable button as opposed
to a check/uncheck items.  So, I'd have to do more research to determine the
order in which the programs are loaded and how to change this order.
I've done a Google search and can't find anything that tells me how to do it

Re: JAWS &T M I

Settings center has a lot of stuff. To go there, press JAWS-F2, hit the letter S three times. Once in, tab over once to get to the tree view, and start cursoring down.  In a classic tree view, you just browse with the cursor, opening what you want to see.  JAWS-f2 reveals several things besides the Settings center.

As I told someone earlier, you don’t have to go at it as if you’re killing snakes; hopefully no one has you on deadline.  Just explore and enjoy discovering the newfound power and flexibility offered by JAWS.  You might start by going to and reading through the manuals, or the MP3 files included with the program.

Do you by some chance still have "Google Instant" turned on? If you're logged in to your Google Account you can go here: https://www.google.com/preferences, to check whether it is turned on.

I cannot replicate what you're describing. Directly beneath the search term entry box there is a "Google Search" button and "I'm feeling lucky" button, in that order, but hitting enter after typing in your search terms activates the "Google Search" in my case.
