Re: Removing Older Versions of JFW
Lois
When you go into the add/remove programs on the control panel and tell it to remove a version of JAWS, it will act like it's going to install it; but a few steps along, it will tell you it is removing it and will ask if you wish to keep associated files. If this worries you, allowing the files to remain on your system will not harm anything. But it will eventually remove what you have requested to be removed.
Hope this helps. Lois Goodine.

Good that you all are not experiencing any problems switching back/forth. As Adrian has observed more than once on this list, the danger appears to be when removing one of the older versions when newer versions are installed. By "older" I mean JAWS 9 and lower, "newer" JAWS 10 and above. The change from VCM (video chain manager) to DCM (display chain manager) seems to set up a recipe for disaster when VCM is ripped out of the stack. Have help ready at hand if you try this. As to disc space -- Unless you still have a 10 Gb hard drive or less I wouldn't worry about having extra versions of JAWS sitting there. Which David? You didn't keep the message thread intact. In any case, it's your or someone's ISP that labels the subject automatically when the content is suspicious. You can check your ISP if you go to the actual web site for your mail, and look for spam protection or bulk mail. Since all ISPs are different I can't be more precise than that. Personally I just put [bulk] in my JAWS dictionary file and have it speak a blank space. Then I never hear the annoyance. First, instead of removing via add/remove programs in the control panel, go to the version of JAWS you want in the programs menu. Click on that version and arrow down to "uninstall." The wizard will take you through the process. Second, my computer completely crashed when I removed JAWS 8, and I couldn't get my later versions to read after that. I had to call on a computer consultant for help, and he couldn't do so from a remote location because my computer wouldn't boot up far enough. Other listers report similar experiences when removing 8 and, as I recall, 7. I suggest you call on sighted Assistance to ensure the versions of JAWS you keep still work after the uninstall.

Re: [Bulk] [Bulk] JAWS 13, and MS WORD'S "word count"
David <davidwhitehead1957@...>
Hello there;
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Summary: Count the number of words, paragraphs, lines, or pages that make up your Microsoft Word 2003 document. Curious to know how many words make up your Microsoft Word 2003 document? How about pages, paragraphs, or lines? For scholastic types, this information may be useful if you are doing a book report or essay. Professional writers or budding columnists may need this information before sending their works to an editor. To display the word count, click "Tools" - "Word Count". A "Word Count" dialog box will appear. * Note that footnote and endnote text is not tabulated in the word count. To change this, check "Include footnotes and endnotes". * Need to keep this information onscreen at all times? Click the "Show toolbar" button. A "Word Count" toolbar will appear displaying the total word count. Note that this information will not automatically recalculate - you must click the "Recount" button for the accurate total. Also, if you need the line count, page count, etc., just click the toolbar's pull-down to display all relative information. Note that you don't have to display the word, paragraph, line, and page counts for the entire document. You can also select a portion of the document, then click "Tools" - "Word Count" or click the "Recount" button of the "Word Count" toolbar if it is visible. So, using the keyboard, One would probably alt+t for tools, And then press w=word-count. I suspect, you would have to route jaws to pc to read the information.
