Re: New member with a question about JAWS and Kindle

Hi,

From what I have seen, text is, of course, not visible. The reading keys work for listening to the book with the Kindle voices. Much of the menu information is visible, but I do not see where to put your information in if you plan to register online. Also, if you click on the button one tab after the register button and you have already registered before, that button is now a deregister button, although it does not say that. Please note, I am not using the most current version of Kindle because it does not suit my needs.

Hi, I recently had success with Kindle and JAWS 18 by going to the link below and arrowing down to the link designated for Windows and Mac. This link will take you to a utility for screen readers that will allow text to speech.
Others know more so write again if you have trouble. Mitch

to be honest I have found that  m.facebook.com is more excessible with jaws and has worked better for me I just arrow down to messages then I have pressed enter on messages thing then press enter on the unread message then am able to read it.

I have success with using messanger on the Facebook page although I use the computer version not mobile—I’m assuming that’s what you mean by M.facebook or however you put it? If you’re using JAWS, you should be able to just hit enter on your keyboard after going to messager and you can scroll through your messages. They’re listed in a table thing where the person’s message appears on the left column and some checkbox or something is in the right. I’ve found that if you click the person’s message, about twice—press enter and then spacebar, you’ll be on that person’s message. You can then do anything you want like viewing the messages in the conversation, going into the actions and either archiving/deleting/doing other stuff—this takes some work arounds but I’ve got that covered too. If you want to delete a message, you can hit enter or space on the action thing, arrow down to delete, and press enter again. However, to get into where you can delete things or archive them, you have to tab and arrow righyt to your selection before pressing space. It’s a bit of a pain, but that’s what I’ve seen to work so far. Need any more help, feel free to e-mail this list.

Is there anyone using the m.facebook page, who has success with
messaging?  I don't have much success, and the messenger page more often
than not crashes when I try to open it after someone has sent me a
message.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Re: most responsive syn

Marquette, Ed <ed.marquette@...>

Synthesizer preferences are totally subjective. The Vocalizer voices are all pretty responsive now. They sound nice, for the most part, but when they miss a word, they miss it badly, and I'm talking about some pretty common words.
Eloquence and DecTalk Access both, by comparison, sound a little robotic (That's because you've never heard an Echo or an Echo PC from Street Electronics in the 80's). Eloquence and DecTalk, to me, are the clear champions when it comes to responsiveness. I think that, on average, they do a better job on common words than do the Vocalizer voices.
In the last decade, for various reasons related to work, I have had to switch back and forth between JAWS and WindowEyes, and my wife has a Macintosh.
My synthesizer of choice is still good old Eloquence.

Re: adding voices

Marquette, Ed <ed.marquette@...>

This question comes up all the time.

I contend that the methodology is not logical or intuitive.

You probably downloaded some of the Vocalizer 2 voices, and you probably downloaded separate files for the “large” synthesizer “persons.”

They DO NOT show up; however, you will doubtless see something that says “Vocalizer,” and it may even say (factory settings) or something like that.

Nevertheless choose that, press Alt + V.  That should put you into relative proximity to the place where you can choose a person.  Pick your person and choose the other settings you want.

Then, tab (do it several time).  Eventually, you will get to “Save as.”

Then, pick a name that relates to the person you chose, e.g., “SusanSynth.”

Then press ENTER.

You will now have a synthesizer called SusanSynth that you can pick from the list of synthesizers.

Hi:

Anyone have an old version of JAWS about 3.31 or thereabouts?  I’m trying to test some things on an old Win98 system.

I thought I had one of these around here, but, I did loose a whole lot of discs and other stuff in a house fire in 2007, so I probably do not have them anymore.

Thanks!

How do I reset to factory default? I know I will lose a few things, but I'd rather do that now than after I get everything the way I want it. Thanks.
