major warning about c cleaner and windows 10

Jed Barton

Hey guys,

OK for those of you using windows 10, i had a bad experience with c
cleaner. I ahve used it for years with various versions of windows,
but never again with win 10. Long story short, i now have to
re-format, not happy! I would not suggest it. I did a clean up
yesterday, went to reboot, and had no speech. I hadc to have a friend
come over and he's now working to re-install windows.

Hi Laura,

Which browser do you use? I just tried this using Chrome and while it at first had me logged in right away, I logged out, closed Chrome and then opened it again, went to m.facebook.com and it now asked for my email and password and I was able to enter them  no problem.

You might want to clear your browsers cookies and history.

Is anybody having trouble being able to log onto Facebook via m.facebook.com from a laptop or desktop computer?  I’ve done this for several years without a single problem.  When I go to this site it does not give me the option as it always has to type in my user name and password and then press enter on the log in button.  When I go to m.facebook.com now, at the top of the page it says Log In.   When I arrow down it says “log in as *** button” and when I press enter nothing happens.  Could anybody please help?

Thank you,

Hi Shane,

A few weeks ago, I tried using Publisher 2007 with JAWS 13 and 15.  I found it totally inaccessible.

Best,

Richard

Hi guys,

I wrote in a few weeks ago, but I don't think I got a clear answer. So I wanted to ask again, does anyone know if Jaws is accessible with Microsoft Publisher? Upon doing a Google research, from what I read so far it's not. But just wanted to ask on the list to be Shore. Thanks, Shane.

Hi,

Good old DOS provides a way to search for a text string within a file or group of files.

Hit Windows and r to bring up a run box then type in cmd and hit enter. Once the DOS box is up, type findstr /? And hit enter to get details.

Take care,

Everything search can search file contents, but unlike Windows Search the Everything does not index file contents, so searching on file content alone, unless you also combine it with a suspected file name/wildcard, will be painfully slow compared to a straight Everything search.  See:  https://voidtools.com/faq/#does_everything_search_file_contents

Sharon, hit the WinKey then enter "Cortana" sans quotation marks.  You should get the "Cortana & Search" settings returned, probably as the first item.  Once you've gained focus on that then hit enter to open it.   In Version 1607 there is a toggle (checkbox) for "Search Online & include web results" which you will want to toggle off if you wish to avoid having web results in your Windows Cortana searches.

Hi,
I heartily endorse this suggestion. My problem wasn’t as dire but it did afflict 2 machines and the people at Microsoft were very thorough, methodical and helpful while getting me sorted even while needing to escalate me to tier 2 engineers. All is sorted by me now and I can once again smile sitting in front of working machines.  I hope they can sort our fellow list member’s situation out equally as efficiently.

Re: Kertana and searching for a file, or for key words in a file

Tim Ford

I have used the Everything search program, and am pretty sure it looks only to the name of files and folders.  I would love to have that option with the Everything program, because it is nicely accessible.  If someone does know how to have the Everything program search text within a file, please let me know!

I have found the built-in Windows search box, both Windows 7 and 10, to be quite good at searching the actual content of Word, Excel, Outlook, browser favorites, and probably more.  I have always found what I was looking for.  You tend to get more results than are useful or helpful, but at least the answer is there.  In Windows 10, the automatic sorting of search results by type makes Windows 10 especially useful since you can avoid slogging through a long list of results that you can tell from the title have nothing of interest.

Sharon,

Cortana is a far more powerful tool than simple Windows Search ever was, and it would take many pages to explain every feature.

I tend to search primarily on file name, and I far prefer the Everything Search program from voidtools.com for that purpose.  It's much faster than Cortana for file name searches and very light on system resources.

It's hard to advise you further without knowing what version of Windows 10 you're using.  If you hit WinKey and type "winver" take a look at the version that's returned and post it.  There are settings you can tweak related to Cortana, at least prior to the Creator's Update (which is Version 1703), that can stop the inclusion of web results.

Brian,
I tried from cmd command line and also from the run dialog.  It said that protection was turned off, this makes me think I might be out of luck.  It would not run the program.  I was using the command, “rstrui.exe” which I found on a google search.  I ran xcopy to back up my personal files while I was in command prompt just in case.  I have a second hard disk that I use for this purpose.  If that protection being turned off means what I think, then there probably aren’t any restore points on the system?  I searched the folder called “windows10upgrade”     in cmd mode and there is a file called “getcurrentrollback” but since file manager doesn’t come up using “windows+E” key stroke, I can’t get to it to try that.  I also cannot open control panel to access the list of updates in “programs” panel item to try a uninstall as directed by microsoft on their site.

Are you able to use the WinKey to trigger a search and have it complete successfully?   If so, hit WinKey, search for "Recovery", and select "Recovery Options" from the returned search results.  This should open the Recovery pane of Update & Security settings and this is where the "Go back to an earlier build" (or something similar) button or link is located during the period that this function is supported.  I think that's for something like 10 days after upgrading.

My suspicion is that either there was corruption on your system prior to upgrading or that some "burp" occurred during the upgrade process itself.

Pablo;
I have done some of these tasks in the past and used the "mr. excel site" which usually comes up when I google my needs where vb modules are concerned. I use an older version of office but I do not drag anything anywhere ever. I usually try to find out how to code for the parameters that dragging may set. I only write these modules for myself so beauty has not been a concern, dragging controls may make for better looking user control objects on the screen, I just don't know.

Hi all,
I am trying to figure out how to place a control in an excel sheet when I am developing a vb macro. When we are working on vb, create and place a control is very easy, but I haven't been able to create or insert a control creating a macro in excel.
How a jaws user is able to drag a control to the design area?
Thanks in advance,

Big problems after creator's update

jeff armstrong <jeffarmstrong1380@...>

Hello;

I updated to creator’s edition? of windows 10 and now most programs error out or just throw me back to the desktop.  The email program seems to work as does internet explorer.  I saw an article that said something about turning off “tablet mode” but I can’t run settings, it just sends me to desktop.  Can someone either instruct me on rolling back, if possible? or possibilities on what I might do to repair the new update or whatever it broke?  Thanks in advance.
