Re: Thunderbird Still quirky.
Randy Barnett <randy@...>
Well the issue the Jaws update address's is fixed. I did more research and found this particular issue has happened in earlier versions of TB also... The fix is not working for me though. If someone could try the following and tell me if they can see the list of accounts in the list box I would really appreciate it: Use unified folders. View then folders click on Unified. Then in the folders pane select inbox then shift F10 select properties. You should have a list box with all of your accounts. You should be able to check or uncheck witch ones are included. For me that list box is empty when it should have 12 accounts in it.

Bill, does that thing have a help file? I've never gotten around to playing with it in all the years I've used Windows. I used a spreadsheet, so I could have a hard copy if necessary.

Mario, It also looks like that server may use TLS, too. Presenting the willfully ignorant with facts is the very definition of casting pearls before swine.

Re: using Windows Live Mail
Mario, I don't know if you configured the settings yourself or if WLM did it for you, but in any case I would double check that the "my server requires authentication" (or similar phrasing) checkbox is checked for the SMTP server and that it uses the same credentials as the incoming server (which is usually another checkbox). The nature of the error message you quote suggests that the server requires authentication but that WLM is trying to connect anonymously (which used to be quite common way back when, but not anymore). Presenting the willfully ignorant with facts is the very definition of casting pearls before swine.

First, Make sure the port for the SMTP server is correct. Second, Make sure POP is turned on in the settings on your Hotmail account. Third, Make sure the SMTP server's name is exact.

Re: Vocalizer Expressive 2 Installation Problem Solved
Marquette, Ed <ed.marquette@...>
Well, I guess logic is more subjective than I thought. It just seemed to me that when I downloaded and installed two entirely separate files and JAWS saw no file that even remotely resembled the new files, but only an old file that had been on my computer for months (if not years) before I downloaded the two new files, that seemed illogical. Perhaps I was aided in my errant conclusion when at least 10 different suggestions made to Mr. Robins and me failed to suggest this “logical” solution to the problem. Oh well! All’s well that ends well.

Sent: Tuesday, April 25, 2017 10:42 PM To: main@jfw.groups.io Subject: Re: Vocalizer Expressive 2 Installation Problem Solved
To me this is pretty logical. When you first get Jaws Eloquence is the default synthesizer, then once you go to voice person you have Reed, Shelley, Glenn, Rocko and whatever else there is. If you select any of them and save it it is still called Eloquence and not Reed or Glenn or whatever, you would have to go to “Save As” and name it this. The same applies to Vocalizer, just as Eloquence it is the collection of whichever voices you install, if you install Susan, Samantha, Tom and Allison then those are available, if I install other languages like German in my case, I go to my Vocalizer Factory Default, then I change the language to german and then if I installed two german voices those are available and I can save a profile for each if I want.

All: I finally called technical support. This was after checking the archives here and doing a general Web search. It turns out that Alan Robins, then a participant on this list, appeared to have the same problem. Numerous suggestions were made. Nothing worked, and if Alan ever got Vocalizer to work and mentioned it on the list, I must have missed it. Alan, if you still want to get Vocalizer 2 working, read on. Since the High Premium voices come in separate files, I was looking for a synthesizer named Allison or Susan. All I saw was Vocalizer Expressive (factory), and I believe that same file was present before – presumably for Vocalizer Expressive 1 voices. At the direction of FS technical support (or whatever they are called now), I went into the JAWS menu (JawsKey + j). Then, I went into “Options” and then “Voices.” After that, I went into plain old “Voice Adjustments.” I didn’t touch the utilities menu or the Braille and Synthesizer Manager –as I had supposed. Well, I arrowed down to that same stupid old Vocalizer Expressive (factory) entry. After highlighting it, I was instructed to press Alt + v. That isn’t a particularly appropriate shortcut for “Person,” but it worked. I was presented with two names: one included “Susan” and the other included “Allison.” I was next instructed to tab over to “Save as.” I then renamed the files to “Susan” and then “Allison,” respectively. Now, if I want to switch “synthesizers” or “voices” (and the distinction is a little meaningless now), I press control+ JawsKey + s. I can arrow among Susan, Allison, Eloquence, and … Was this intuitive? My best guess is that FS has been hiring laid off Microsoft programmers. Who else would think this is logical?

Hi:
If you have any of the older vocalizer voices installed, you should uninstall them. For some reason, JAWS cannot use both version 1 and version 2 voices.
If that’s not the problem, I’m stumped.

I took the plunge and installed JAWS 18. I wanted to try the Vocalizer Expressive 2 voices. So, I downloaded and installed Alison and Suzan High Premium from the Expressive 2 lists. The files downloaded just fine, and the installation seemed to work just fine. I have restarted JAWS 3 times, and JAWS sees none of the new synthesizers. Any ideas?

Re: Vocalizer Expressive 2 Installation Problem Solved
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>

Re: Thunderbird Still quirky.

I noticed that if I arrow from another folder to the inbox folder then tab to the list pane then insert + T it says the name of the last folder I was in... If I shift tab to the folder pane it says Inbox. tab to the list pane it says the name of the last folder I was ini.e. Drafts folder. Any ideas? I really prefer Unified folders over indevidual folders for each of my 12 accounts.

Hello all,

Have you tried assigning the calculator to a hot key. It sure is easier and faster to bring up the calculator.

I doubt you have to type past the first 3 or so letters for it to come up. For me the first thing that comes up after "c" is Google Chrome, but as soon as I type the "a" calculator has focus and I can press enter to start the app. Also, many keyboards have calculator shortcut keys. I'm using a Logitech MK710 and it has a calculator key on the very right at the same height as the Function keys. After the Print Screen, Scroll lock and Pause keys there is a gap and then a lone key off to the right and it brings up the calculator. Indeed, in Windows 10, it is hidden. With a little sighted assistance, however, we found it and pinned it to the task bar, which was a good solution. And, a huge thanks to the discussion about using the Windows Key and numbers keys to jump to applications. I had forgotten about those commands entirely. Now, I use them all the time. They are fantastic! Well, I installed JAWS 18 yesterday. ALAS! The calculator that worked so well in JAWS 17 appears to be completely broken in JAWS 18 or, if not broken, is implemented so badly as to be useless. It is so good to be able to keep old versions of JAWS around so that when Freedom Scientific screws up, as they did with calculator, one can go back to a prior version. The calculator works great in JAWS 17. It seems unusable in JAWS 18. I. That doesn't make any sense... I have an outlook.com account and I would not use WLM if that is the case.
