Hi All, Does anyone have experience with reading Kindle
books with JAWS 18?

I found Kindle for PC accessibility Installer version
1.14.43034 but am not sure if this is the most current
version.

Off list is fine but any tips on the procedure will be much
appreciated. Thanks, Mitch

My experience is that very few of the books I have purchased allow the
new works-with-jaws feature set. So I am likely sticking with using
calibre to convert kindle books to something I can easily use.

Yes, as standard using the e for email is used. Clients of mine use this web site, and I’m trying to find a way to help them get around.

Hi all. I had some off and on problems with the Kaiser web site in regards to emailing doctors and other departments using Jaws 16 and later. The main problem is to the continue to email my doctor button. This button is usually somewhere on the web page, but is hard to find. Using b for button only brings up the search edit box. Has anyone that deals with this site have any tips and tricks they would like to share?

Re: internet explorer question

Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>

This could be because of how they are implemented on the website. I find on some websites I can press enter on a combo box and then arrow through the options, others work better if I open them with Alt+Up arrow, some I have come across open but close each time you arrow down to the next option etc. If you find a particular website works well with Firefox and/or chrome compared to IE then what’s wrong with using either one of these browsers. I figure IE will go away eventually so I may as well get used to something newer and more modern.

Hi all
Till now the general strategy I adopted to read PDF documents
specially bulky ones was to convert them into MS word using OCR (find
reader11 ). However the conversion not only destroys the formatting of
the document, but sometimes also results in a lot of mistakes which
greatly hampers effective comprehension of the text.
Any better techniques I can adopt?
Also how can I edit a PDF without converting it?

Subject: accessing jaws homepage

I just got off the phone with Freedom.  I want to access the jaws homepage and they told me to hit insert plus J which sounds right.  However when I do this all I get is my version of jaws with no options.  Yes, my computer is in the process of being replaced but for now it’s the only game in town.  Is there another way to access the home page or options?  Thanks, Judit0068

Re: How to navigate Amazon Prime Video with JAWS?

Alyssa <lyssassong@...>

Controls are not spoken for prime video. In order to make it do anything, you have to turn the virtual cursor off right as the video starts. With any luck, you will be where you need to be in the window.

Space plays and pauses the video.

The arrows rewind and fast-forward it.

Now, if you are not where you should be, you will need to tab until JAWS speaks nothing. That way you won’t be on a link when the space bar is used.

Subject: How to navigate Amazon Prime Video with JAWS?

HI All,

I am finally checking out the Amazon Prime Video service, a friend having sent me a link.  Does someone have JAWS instructions on how to control the video?  So far all I have been able to figure out is how to start the video.  I would also be interested in a broader tutorial on using Amazon Video with JAWS, giving me steps on searching and general navigation.  Any guidance is much appreciated.

Re: Continuing User Account Notification Issue With Firefox 52

Well, Bill, to be honest, the problem is just a minor anoyance that I'm
willing to put up with if needed.

Not sure it's worth messing around with various registry or control panel
settings to try to resolve it.

I was just hoping there would be a relatively simple fix, which, apparently,
is not necessarily the case.

What's weird is that the problem started right after the update to Firefox
52.

Hi, Tom and list. I suspect that the reason you are continuing to get a UAC
notification every time you start Firefox is that something is incorrectly
set in Group Policy settings. This may necessitate changing something in the
registry as well as something in the Control Panel. If you are unsure as to
how to do this, you may need to call Microsoft back again, and ask them how
to change your Group Policy settings. I, myself, am unsure how to do this. I
am always reluctant to change my own registry.

Yes, I did talk to them about the user account notification issue.

In fact, they saw the issue when I launched Firefox after they helped
me re-install it. They didn't seem to have an answer as to why this
is happening, and what to do about it.

At the time, I was happy simply to get my internet security issue
resolved, so didn't pursue the matter any further.

Tom,
Have you called Microsoft Accessibility to see if they can figure out
why UAC comes up every time? I highly doubt installing using
administrative privileges is the solution. Think of all the millions
of people who install Firefox normally (including myself) and who
apparently don't have this issue. I don't have a solution, but assume
there is something different with your particular computer's
configuration that causes this.

Sieghard

Gerry:

I checked "run as administrator" under properties both on my desktop
and start menu program listing for Firefox, but still no change.

In my view, this further confirms the fact that I initially should
have done an administrator install of Firefox 52 when the Microsoft
Accessibility Hotline technician and I did the install late last week.

Hi,

OK, let's try another approach.

This advice comes from the Windows Club site. More advice is available
there.
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/elevated-privileges-windows

If you want to make a program always run with admin privileges,
right-click on the program's executable file, select Properties. Here,
select the Run this program as an administrator box. Click Apply > OK.

Take care,

Gerry Ellis

If you don't know where you're going,
How will you know when you get there?

I think Bill is right; I should have initially installed Firefox as

I did install it as an administrator, but I can't remember whether it
prompted for User Account Control during the installation. It probably
did, but I can't be sure.

There may be an access control list you can change to fix the problem,
but for that, you would need advice from someone who knows more about
Windows system administration than I do. UNIX has a fairly simple
system of permissions, with access control lists available if you need
to do something complex. Windows seems to be entirely access control
lists, and I haven't taken the time to understand the details yet.
