Re: issue after new insider windows 10 build
Hi Juan and others, Yes, anyone is welcome on the insiders list (technically, a subgroup of another list):
As the Insiders is a subgroup of Win10 forum, you need to first subscribe to the parent forum first before joining the subgroup. Regarding audio problem: I can confirm this in build 15058, and because it does not happen with other screen readers and since disabling sound effects did not help, I’d presume this is something VFO will need to look into. Cheers, Joseph

Hi All,
Yesterday I had an upgrade, I am on the insider program for Microsoft win10. After my computer upgraded to windows 10 x64 build 15048.0, I started noticing jaws acting weird.
As I type, sometimes the volume gets jerky. It’ll sort of cut in and out, sometimes lowering the volume, or even cutting out. I only hear this behavior when typing.
I’m running the latest version of jaws 18.
Any help or ideas would greatly be appreciated.

My experience with RDP is that setting jaws to run at login from the

target computer (as if you were sitting down at that machine and logging in normally) doesn't work very well. Instead I tell the RDP client to run jaws after connecting and that does work. And as Michael says, for RDP to be useful at all you have to have purchased the remote access option for your jaws license. (At the time I did that it was only available for jaws pro, but am not sure if that changed with FS' change in license structure).

Re: Excel and JAWS
Kane Brolin
Hi,Palmer. Sorry it has taken longer than I wanted to get back to you on this.
A few years ago, I too was frustrated as an Excel user relying on a screen reader; because all too often, Websites or individuals would describe how to get things done in Excel solely through visually-oriented suggestions about clicking and dragging or activating this or that using the ribbon. But Microsoft always has built a lot of keyboard shortcuts into its Office suite--it's just that most people don't think to use them. Visit https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Excel-keyboard-shortcuts-and-function-keys-for-Windows-1798d9d5-842a-42b8-9c99-9b7213f0040f?CorrelationId=e8b3c1a3-7e7d-45c8-980f-dc9b2ee97bae&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US&ocmsassetID=HP010342494 for a comprehensive set of these shortcut keys particular to Excel. If you want to do something specific that seems difficult or that is not listed here, contact me offline at kbrolin65@... and I will attempt to help you figure it out. I dpo not use Excel for super-complex graphing or formula creation, but I have learned on the fly how to interact with Office help instructions, how to work with multiple sheets at a time and switch between worksheets, and how to manipulate a worksheet to give me what I need at any given time. Kind regards, -Kane

Mine was doing that prior to the update. I checked to make sure my sound card drivers were up-to-date since Windows doesn’t update them automatically. They were not. That fixed my problem.

Re: JAWS 18 and RDP Sessions
Michael Mote
Hi Jonathan! I’m wondering if the remote access for JAWS is working correctly. It sounds like you may be getting the speech through the PC you’re connecting to, and not your own PC. The other thing that you mentioned in your email that raises a red flag is the fact that you have to have your authorization installed on the computer that you’re connecting to. If remote access is working properly, that shouldn’t be the case. Have you paid for the remote access to be enabled on your version of JAWS?

Sent: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 3:15 PM To: main@jfw.groups.io Subject: JAWS 18 and RDP Sessions
Hi All,
I am having difficulty using JAWS in RDP sessions. Since the computers to which I am connecting must be logged on 24/7, I use Disconnect instead of Logoff to terminate the session. The problem I am having is that quite often when I connect via an RDP session, speech is not available with JAWS. I usually have to end the JAWS process through Task Manager and then restart it again to have speech. However, this doesn’t always work, and I have to restart the entire computer to resolve it. Other times it connects without difficulty and speech is immediately available. I have checked to run JAWS and logon and after all users using Always, but this hasn’t helped. The only consistent connection I can get is with a computer on which JAWS is registered with my auth code. I was under the impression that the auth code wasn’t needed for computer running JAWS remotely, however, and so this doesn’t explain the inconsistency I’m seeing. The problem is happening on several different desktops with 2 running WIN7 and 1 running WIN10. Does anyone have ideas on this?
Thanks, Jonathan

Hello list, So over the weekend, I swapped out my old hard drive with an SSD. I’m up and running and am coming across high CPU usage and can’t figure out why. It’s a clean install of Windows 7, 8 GB of ram and iCore 3 2.2 GHZ processor. The PC and Jaws feels sluggish at times too. The machine boots fast as would be expected, but launching of programs still takes a bit. At least more than what one would anticipate with an SSD. Standard programs like Office 2016, Malwarebytes/Essentials and Jaws 18. No files as of yet. The drive is more or less empty. Jaws is stuttering too. The stuttering thing I had way back when and was able to fix it at that time, but for the life of me, can’t recall how I got rid of it. Anyway, I’m going to check later for any firmware updates for the SSD (Crucial) in case that may help, but generally, I was curious if there was anything else I may have overlooked or can adjust to bring down the CPU usage. I’m talking anywhere from a consistent 78 to 98%. Any input would be appreciated.
