sure would have been nice if users with a vision disability could

One you forgot was the one where somebody said that they have Windows 7,
but they asked if they could purchase it now for when they upgrade to
Windows 10 or buy a Windows 10 device. The answere here is no, KNFB
Reader for Windows has to be purchased from the Windows Store and you
need a Windows 10 computer to do this.

Hi all,
A few things in an FAQ format:

Q. How much does KNFB Reader cost?

100 dollars, but it is on sale for 20 dollars for a limited time.

Q. Can I purchase and/or run KNFB Reader on Windows 7 or 8.x computers?

No. Due to the app format, KNFB Reader is destined for Windows 10
ecosystem devices (PC's, smartphones, mixed reality headsets,
whiteboards and so on).

Q. Can I use JAWS with KNFB Reader?

Yes. Once a document is scanned, one of the controls is a document
window where you can read the scanned text.

Q. Can I use scanners with KNFB Reader?

Yes. This app will recognize webcams and scanners connected to your
computer.

Q. Can I scan image-based PDF documents?

Yes (via File explorer).

A vibrant discussion took place over at Win10 group:

Special $20 US or $23.19 CAD for KNFB Reader for Windows 10, get it now, was: New KNFBReader app for Windows 10

Hi,

Thought I post this both on Viphone and the Jaws list as I just heard about this special offer from the CSUN convention.

The KNFB Reader app for Windows 10 can be had for an introductory price of $20 US or, here in Canada, for $23.19 + taxes. Apparently this offer is only good for today and tomorrow (March 3 and 4), after that the regular price will be $99 US just as KNFB Reader for iOS.

I am not sure how often I am going to use this on my Windows 10 laptop, but for that price this is a no-brainer for me and I grabbed it. This was the first time I bought something from the Windows Store. I actually went to it from a link on the KNFB Reader website so when the store opened it was already in the right place. The Jaws touch cursor came on automatically and I could easily arrow through the information and activate the buy button and confirm the purchase. I wasn’t sure if I had to enter credit card information, but apparently I have my Visa on file with them because it simply downloaded and installed and a minute or so later I received an email receipt from Microsoft which showed that it had been charged to my Visa.

I just opened it to look at the interface and it’s super simple, just a few buttons you can tab through, like Take Picture, a combo box to select your camera and a menu button. It showed the built-in webcam of my laptop since I have nothing else connected, but I assume it would recognize a Pearl just fine and work with it.

Regards,

Sieghard

Re: Disabling "copyright" symbol in Word 2016

This is one of the auto-correct options.

First, open the AutoCorrect Dialog by hitting ALT+F, T, P  (which gets you to proofing options)

followed by ALT+A (which opens the actual dialog).

When I open this the first thing I have focus on is the "Replace Text as you type" list with focus, as it so happens, on open parenthesis, C, close parenthesis with the replacement text of the copyright symbol.  I have to select it so that this is transferred to the boxes where you type the actual character sequence and replacement text then hit the Delete button.  This will remove it from the list of items that are subject to replacement when typed.

Re: Disabling "copyright" symbol in Word 2016

Tim Ford

Hello Elise,

I have a work-around solution for you.

That irritating auto-change feature in Word goes back many versions, at least to Word 2003 if memory serves me right.  I am sure there is a way to go in an turn off that auto-change, and someone on this list knows, but there is also an easy way.  As soon as you finish typing (c) and press another key, Word has done the conversion, which you can verify with the say line command in JAWS.  Use the backspace key, and stop as soon as you hear the copyright symbol get erased.  Then, simply type the (c) again, and Word understands that is what you want and it does not auto-change.  Just to prove the point, I noticed that in writing this response, in Outlook with Word as my text editor, I had to manually change when I wrote the (c).  Another option is to wait until you are done with the document, then do a global search and replace to take care of the matter all in one pass.

Hello, group.

Whenever I type a document in Word 2016, and I number a line as -parentheses, the letter c, closed parentheses -, it always reads "copyright". It is a little annoying for me to keep hearing this. It does it automatically when I type in Word 2016; I am not inserting the "copyright" symbol from the list. Is there a way to stop JAWS from reading the "c" as "copyright"? Thanks. I am running Windows 8.1 with JAWS 16.

Of course my luck, I just got around to upgrading to Kurzweil1000 14 last month.

Anyway, for those who have downloaded it, can they comment on accuracy or if scans are comparable to K1000?

Also, does this app work with Jaws unlike K1000 where you have to switch between programs and keyboard commands?

If it takes away the step of switching between programs and keyboard commands, I may still be interested.

It’s on sale for $20.00 for  the next couple of days. Whereas the regular price seems to  be $100.00 like the iOS app

I do not know if this will help, but I just heard an Applevis podcast about the Outlook app for the iPhone. He said it is very easy to use. Perhaps you can use that and have it sent to both PCs via your phone?

I wish I could be of more help. I do not have 365 either and would like to know more about syncing my laptop and my phone. When new tech challenge at a time I guess. :-)

Unfortunately, this is not just a problem for you. I'm using Office

thing at times. It has to be something with JAWS or Windows that needs

Hello all,

I have been having multiple recent issues with Jaws, but the problem
is I have been so busy that I have really not been able to sit down to
try to figure out what is going on. Of course, this just means I get
slowed down and I am busier still.

I might just have my settings wrong or something. I am using windows
10, office 365, and jaws 18. The office suite is not web-based, it is
programs on my computer that are part of a subscription, so I'm
unclear if that is actually office 365 or not. But it is current. Here
are some of the things that are happening:

When I arrow down through a word document, jars just keeps saying
"blank line" when I can see that there is text there. I use both JAWS
and Nagic together.

There are several websites that I go to that I know have edit boxes or
buttons, but Jaws just keeps saying "no edit boxes" or "no buttons"

Finally a very frustrating ond happens when I am cutting and pasting
from an email into word, and then flipping back to my email to close
it down. I do this rather quickly, but I feel like it should keep up.
Many times recently it has simply crashed Jaws. I can't just close
jars down either, I have to reboot the whole computer.

I am also noticing that when I am typing, very often jaws cannot keep
up with that either. I am usually in an email I think, although it may
happen in word as well. Jars just stop talking, and then I have to
pause, and a few seconds later it will pop back on. Shouldn't it keep
up with the simple typing?

I did not used to have these problems at all, but as I said I have
been having them for sometime now, back to jars 17. I am now current
with 18, but the problems have not gone away. I may have settings
wrong somewhere. If any of you have any ideas, I would love to hear.
Thank you!

Bonnieentirely.
