I'll deal with the internet thing later if I can get sound back first. I may even run down to BestBuy and buy a cheap external soundcard just to see. So... Hi all,
For those of you who come to CSUN 2017, I invite you to the VFO Group’s booths, to take a look both at the already shipping ElBraille 14G2 which will start it’s way to the US soon, and at a prototype of the ElBraile 40, which really looks like the final product.
Also , I would like to thank the staff of Blind Bargains, for featuring me on their eposoede92 of their podcast. Take a listen to it if you want to know more info about these devices. Finally, the latest fsCast released by Freedom Scientific, contains a interview about the ElBraille with Ron Miller, Freedom Scientific’s blindness hardware product manager. Feel free to Take a listen to that as well.

Following the prompts, though we are given the option to enable audio, this doesn’t seem to occur. Nor am I able to connect to the Internet even though this machine is connected via an Ethernet cable. I’ve checked online and even someone on one of these lists recommended to uninstall audiodrivers in the device manager, and restart, but this doesn’t seem as though it wouldn’t work for me as again, I’m somehow no longer connected to the Internet. I also tried accessing system restore and am presented with an error message having to do with the audio property profile not being loaded and to check the event log etc. I’ve since tried rebooting and am again stuck on that original screen before the desktop. I have two suggestions. If in fact the sound got turned down, try pressing Alt-Ctrl-Windows Up Arrow several times and see if the sound returns. This is a keystroke to raise system volume. The other thought is perhaps your speakers got muted, although I think this is unlikely, since you aren't getting anything through your USB headset either. But just in case, you can type Windows-B, and right arrow to your speakers item and see if it's active and if the volume level is set to something you can hear. You might try that first to see what your setting is; I'm hoping that keystroke I provided might bring your sound back. Good luck and let us know what happens. I first ran the update on my personal Win 7 Pro Dell laptop and everything went as usual. Did the reboot and all was good. I’m writing this email on that machine. I waited for the business day to be over before doing the same on my Dell Win 10 pro business desktop. Again, ran the downloaded installer, went through the process and clicked on the ok button when I was prompted to reboot. However, on the desktop, I am not able to get to the actual desktop. Indeed, there is absolutely no sound coming from my machine. The only way I know what’s going on is with my sighted wife’s help. I get to the screen with three buttons for connect to the Internet, ease of access and the power down button. The connect to the Internet button is crossed out as if it hasn’t completed loading. The ease of access button is active, but even if I try to start narrator, there is still no sound. My wife says that it looks like Narrator turns on, but with no sound, there’s nothing I can do. That and since the desktop doesn’t come up, I still can’t get anywhere. The only thing we’re able to do is access the power button to either restart or shut down the computer. We’ve tried restarting and pressing the f12 button when that prompt comes up briefly, but then I get a screen with options of a legacy boot and other diagnostics options that I’m not familiar with. As far as the sound goes, I’ve made sure and checked with both my USB powered headphones and regular desktop speakers. There aren’t even any system sounds. Don’t know if even calling FS would be of any help since again, there’s no audible feedback what so ever. Can’t even try a system restore since I can’t get to the desktop where everything’s fully loaded. NVDA doesn’t come up either. Any ideas? I’m really at a loss. Cristobal
