I downloaded 13, but I have not yet installed it. I am not happy about the
reports that it is not as stable as the last beta version. I wonder what
they did between that version and the final release. I have been out of the
JAWS news loop for a long, long time, but seems like they are rushing new
versions out way too fast. To be cynical it seems like it may be a way to
keep the SMA money rolling in. I am happy with 12 and I may wait a while to
install 13 at this rate. They will no doubt come out with updates to
improve 13, but I have had far too many other computer glitches and issues
in the last few weeks to worry about dealing with a version of JAWS that is
less stable than the one I am using.

While I am reading messages in Eudora, when I delete the first
message, it re-reads the last line I am focused on in the message
before beginning to read the next message. If I tap the "next
sentence" key while auto-reading, (the right shift key), it often
stops and then goes to the next message, but it is kind of problematic
when I do that.
If I change the view to Eudora's internal viewer, it matters not,
still the same behavior. This did not happen in the betas, only with
the full release of JAWS13. It does not happen using JAWS12 or earlier.

Dave...

Ann Marie,

Don't wait. Call FS or your dealer to get the pricing and if you're okay
with it, make the purchase.

If you let them notify you, and they forget or it gets lost in the mail,
you're up a creek without a paddle.

Re: JAWS 13

You hare right in that factor. However, when loading Jaws13 I checked and rechecked for this factorl. I even called in to make sure and had authorizations in my MSA for 13 and 14. I still received a message that my authorization was for an earlier version of Jaws. If you are out ot authorization keys you sure receive some kind of message as to no more authorizations. It seems like there is some kind of problem with this version.

When I ran into this same problem, the culprit was my JAWS 11 installation.
I selected "update authorization" from the help menu in the JAWS 11 dialog.
This finally settled the matter, and all subsequent installations of JAWS

BTW I did break down and purchase a dongle. It cost me almost $US60 but now
I'll not get stuck for an activation, as long as I keep the dongle on my

Re: JAWS 13

dave grossoehme

Good morning: It sounds like my problem. If you have Jaws11 on your computer your need to go it in all programs. If not go to Jaws12.
The steps to proform this task are following:
Step1 go to your start menu and go to all programs and press the enter key to open them.
step2 press j until you hear whichever your earliest version of Jaws is, version 11 or version 12. Press the enter key in order to open the program.
step3. Press the letter t to go to the tools menu.
Step4 arrow down until you get to remove authorization and press enter. You will need to restart your computer after this procedure. Hopefully you have set a hot key to start jaws when your computer restarts. You will need to reset your authorization when the computer comes back. Freedom Scientific recommending enter the authorization key manually. I hopes this helps you. It solved my problem right away.

Re: JAWS 13

Adrian Spratt

Assuming your SMA entitles you to the upgrade, I believe the only reason to
hold off from downloading JAWS 13 is if we read of reports from more
adventurous JAWS users that it compromises previous versions on your system.
That happened to me with JAWS 4, and I remember a fellow lister describing
something similar with a later version, probably 10. From what I've read on
this list so far, the new components don't seem to have a retroactive
impact, and no one has complained of deterioration in the performance of
earlier versions.

I didn't install JAWS 12 until the last update because of all the criticism.
It turns out that JAWS 12 is less stable on my system than JAWS 11. for
example, I do a lot of copying and pasting from a certain website. JAWS 12
stops selecting the desired text after the second time. When it happens, I
close out 12 and bring up 11 for the remainder of the session.

The moral of the tale is that each of our systems has a different experience
of stability among the different versions of JAWS. While some listers have
reported problems with 13, others say it works fine. So after the first
update or two of 13, I'll probably install it in the hope I find it more
stable than 12.

Re: JAWS 13

Joni Colver <earlybird@...>

Hi,
I get the following message when I load 13. JAWS
Your current authorization is for an earlier version of this Freedom
Scientific
product. If you have already purchased an upgrade for this product,
please
reactivate your software. Otherwise, please contact Freedom Scientific at
727-803-8000 or sales@freedomscientific.com.
OK.
Seeing as it is Saturday I can contact fs when they are open on Monday
but
am I needing to do what Dave did in the below message? If so, can someone
provide steps.
Thanks.

I finally received a response from Freedom Scientific on this problem.
They
instructed me to remove my authorization. However they told me to use
Jaws11 to complete this task. Then to reauthorize Jaws. To my surprise
this solve my problem of Jaws saying that my authorization was for an
earlier version of Jaws.

Actually, under JAWS Help Eudora is listed as supported, well at least
versions 6.x and 7.x while support for other versions may vary.

If FS does not support Eudora then why do they list it as one of the

Curtis,

That's not surprising. Same attitude w/r MS-Access. Interestingly also
the same attitude w/r XP Mode in Windows 7 -- not supported. But works
with a major competitor, I've heard.

since it is not updated since 2006.
