Hi, I see "no reason" why it is not released as 17.1 instead of 18.
joking, İndeed the reason is obvious, for years what FS has been doing
is nothing but version proliferation, fixing what was previously
working and of course "kindly" requesting new upgrade fees from the
users for much ado about nothing. Freedom, you are an SMA monster! but
let me be honest, they hardly ever could find someone better than Mr.

The problem is that if you don’t upgrade and keep purchasing the SMA
for your JAWS you will pay an outrageous price to upgrade in the
future. I have always purchased the SMAs and kept my JAWS current. I
will probably wait for 1 release to come out before I upgrade but I
will definitely upgrade.

All versions of Jaws will run on Windows 7 and it is my guess they will continue to do so for some years to come.

You do, however, need the latest update of Jaws 16 to run on Windows 10.

That's just it, I am so used to having a real applications key from
using desktop keyboards that trying to re-train myself to use
shift+f10 is very difficult. Hard enough to use a single key in the
wrong place.

And worse, with recent HP laptops at least there is no separation
between the F-keys to make groups like you would find on a desktop (or
even on older HP laptops) - despite the fact that I use full size
laptops. That makes using a particular F-key an exercise in counting
every single time for me.

What's even more frustrating, the physical laptop case is slightly
larger than my last HP that had a proper keyboard as I reckon things
but the keys are crunched into a slightly smaller area, and thus why
they got rid of the applications key and the grouping of F-keys.

I have a Lenovo laptop, which I love, but it has a Print Screen key instead
of an applications key. That has been no problem. I just go to Keyboard
Manager, choose to send the applications key, and assign that function to
the Print Screen key. It was that easy in JAWS 16. I just tried doing it
in JAWS 17 (not my favorite version), and I found keyboard manager had
changed entirely. I suspect JAWS 18 will have the same completely baffling
changes to Keyboard Manager.

I do not remember any mention that JAWS 17 completely screwed up keyboard
manager.

Regardless, has anyone tried to translate this relatively simple function
into the brave new world of JAWS 17 and beyond?

Your right, my desktop is the anniversary edition, version 16.
I had no option to upgrade or not. a few days ago, I initiated the power off and the desktop remained on. Over a couple of hours it restarted on its own.

Is there a way to prevent my laptop from automatically upgrading to the anniversary edition?

Also, the right click of a recent application will give me the documents to open. This is the way around the old jump list method.

Thanks.

Peter,

I also think that one of your machines is still pre-Anniversary Update and the other is post-Anniversary update.

To verify this, on each machine, hit the windows key and type the command "winver" (sans quotes, of course) and hit enter.  You will then get the "About Windows" dialog popping up.  If your version is 1511 then you are pre-Anniversary Update and if it's 1607 you're post-Anniversary Update.  I still know of a lot of machines that have not had the Anniversary Update applied.  The machine I'm writing from got the AU in the first week of release.  Two others in the house didn't get it for months after that, and there was at least a three week separation between each of them having it applied.  One also had it fail several times until Microsoft fixed something that was causing certain machines to fail to install the AU.

Hmm, I was using IE11 and could not check the checkbox. I tried, but not really hard because I went down the page and saw the CAPTCHA stuff.

Oops, missed the comment about the confirmation page.  I, however, am not having any problem with it in MS-Edge with JAWS 17.  It reads the "I am not a robot" checkbox unchecked and I can check/uncheck that checkbox with spacebar.

The problem is that if you don’t upgrade and keep purchasing the SMA for your JAWS you will pay an outrageous price to upgrade in the future. I have always purchased the SMAs and kept my JAWS current. I will probably wait for 1 release to come out before I upgrade but I will definitely upgrade.

You'll find the voices within the synthesizers. So first you see Eloquence and when you tab you'll see voice person, where you'll find Reed, etc.

The only way I know to do it is the long way. Hit jaws key + j to get to Jaws menu. You'll be on the options submenu so you want to press the right arrow, then v to get to voices. Hit down arrow once to go to voice adjustment, then hit enter and then tab through the dialog box. I don't know of any shortcuts to get there without scrolling through the menus.
