It's pretty good, however I have better things to spend my money on so will not upgrade or renew my SMA at this time. Let's just say the new features are what should have been in JAWS 11 or 12 instead of Research It lol. Only joking of course. But yes JAWS 13 is a pretty decent release so far for what I use it for.

Note that these setting *do not* get merged over when you update to a new

I've already posted this to

Kim,

Have you tried waiting 5 to 15 seconds to see if JAWS wakes up again? Just
wondering if this is similar to my "housekeeping" halt that JAWS 13 does
when closing some document types.

Hi All,

I'm running Jaws 13 on an xp machine with a Focus 80 USB braille
display. From time to time, and in all different applications, my
display is freezing up. When this happens the display becomes
completely unresponsive and eventually all braille disappears as if
the display is "turned off." The only way to bring the display back
online is to unload and reload Jaws.

Also, and on a related note, Jaws 13 seems to take an inordinately
long time to reload once it's been unloaded.

I have reported both issues to FS but was wondering if others are
seeing similar behavior in version 13.

1. The JAWS 13 release version is a bit unstable, compared to the last JAWS
13 beta before release. A couple lockups, and one stuttering crash. Never
had a stuttering crash with JAWS 12.

2. Notice that when closing the first html message after a launch of Outlook
2007 there is a very noticeable delay of 5 to 10 seconds before JAWS comes
back speaking. Have noticed this also after closing the first PDF document
after loading Acrobat, as well. Seems like JAWS 13 needs to do some
housekeeping to get things organized. Quad core CPU, by the way.

3. Convenient OCR is pretty good, but not a panacea. I've not have any
success using it to identify a single control, but it has helped when
reading window/screen with some installation programs. Try it with Adobe
Flash the next time it comes up. Don't bother using it for captchas.

4. Stock quotes work again.

Hello,

Does anyone have any opinions about this new JAWS version 13? Is this a
winner and considered a must have?

Re: Merge utilities

Dave...

Joni,

Yes, your JAWS 12 settings are untouched.

I've had FS Tech Support give me completely polarized opinions on the merge.
Some say it doesn't work, other say it's the right thing to use. If you
haven't done so already, first back up all your files/folders in the enu
folder to some other location.

I've had mixed success with the merge utility. It does not merge everything,
and just to be sure, I copy all my place markers and personalized settings
files from the older to the newer version.

Even after all that, there is still a lot of tweaking I need to do.
Especially the Key Labels, where I like to mute several of the special
keystrokes. Merge does not, and never has merged these. In fact it's
interesting to note that never has a JAWS installation completed with the
default voice settings I used on the previous version. I always end of with
the "Valium" voice and need to go through all the bother of changing all
those voices. Seems like FS is missing the very obvious simple things over
the years.

If I choose to merge utilities when installing JAWS 13, will the settings
remain in JAWS 12?

Re: JAWS 13

Loreal Lavigna <Llavigna2@...>

I would highly recommend this, yes!!! I currently am a JAWS user and
upgraded my SMA about 2 years ago . I have the latest build of JAWS 13 that
was released and would highly recommend it especially for its OCR feature
(new to this version only!)
