Re: JAWS 13

Opinions...
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
1. The JAWS 13 release version is a bit unstable, compared to the last JAWS 13 beta before release. A couple lockups, and one stuttering crash. Never had a stuttering crash with JAWS 12. 2. Notice that when closing the first html message after a launch of Outlook 2007 there is a very noticeable delay of 5 to 10 seconds before JAWS comes back speaking. Have noticed this also after closing the first PDF document after loading Acrobat, as well. Seems like JAWS 13 needs to do some housekeeping to get things organized. Quad core CPU, by the way. 3. Convenient OCR is pretty good, but not a panacea. I've not have any success using it to identify a single control, but it has helped when reading window/screen with some installation programs. Try it with Adobe Flash the next time it comes up. Don't bother using it for captchas. 4. Stock quotes work again. Re: Merge utilities
Dave...
Joni,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Yes, your JAWS 12 settings are untouched. I've had FS Tech Support give me completely polarized opinions on the merge. Some say it doesn't work, other say it's the right thing to use. If you haven't done so already, first back up all your files/folders in the enu folder to some other location. I've had mixed success with the merge utility. It does not merge everything, and just to be sure, I copy all my place markers and personalized settings files from the older to the newer version. Even after all that, there is still a lot of tweaking I need to do. Especially the Key Labels, where I like to mute several of the special keystrokes. Merge does not, and never has merged these. In fact it's interesting to note that never has a JAWS installation completed with the default voice settings I used on the previous version. I always end of with the "Valium" voice and need to go through all the bother of changing all those voices. Seems like FS is missing the very obvious simple things over the years. Re: Hello and a request for help
Joni Colver <earlybird@...>
Hi Brian,
The lady I wrote to was not familiar with the Beyond Text platform. I asked about it on 3 different MT lists so will let you know if I hear anything back. I assume since the platform is called Beyond Text that you are possibly doing voice recognition editing, is that correct? Were you successfully using a platform previously and then the platform changed, or are you trying to begin work with a new company? What version of JAWS are you using? Joni

Re: default synthesizer
Adrian Spratt
Tom,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I haven't installed JAWS 13, so what I say applies to JAWS 12 and before, but hopefully also JAWS 13. I'm surprised the default option didn't show up in the installation process. However, you can create a default profile with insert-j, then pressing enter on "Options" and selecting "voices." Press enter on "voice adjustment" and follow the prompts. I also use Dectalk Express, and I vaguely remember creating a Dectalk default profile in this way. If you wish to make later adjustments, follow the same command sequence, except instead of "Voice adjustment" at the end, arrow down to "Profile." There, on my system, "Dectalk default" is verbalized first.
