Re: How to insert a 1-digit fraction into a 2013 word document

Peter,

No, the official name for these symbols is "vulgar fraction" followed by what's logical for the actual fraction you've inserted.

It's the technical term for a numerator slash denominator format for a fraction, and that's exactly what they appear like as a single character.

In Outlook 2016 when trying to print an email, I cannot get jaws to land me on the print button in the print dialogue. It wants to take me through all the print options (page layout, font, etc.) but never lands me on the print button. I have had to load Magic, magnify it big and click print with the mouse pointer.

Any suggestions?

I did as you instructed. Now JAWS reads it as:

Is there a significance to hearing "vulgar fraction" before the symbol?

That list does not contain the one third or two thirds
symbols.

I have always used Word, to generate the single symbol, for
the other fractions: one-half, one-quarter and
three-quarters.

In Word, just type the 3 characters "1/2". When you press
the space-bar, the 3 characters will become the single
symbol.
This also applys for the fractions: one-quarter and
three-quarters.

How do you create the single symbol for the fractions:
one-third and two-thirds?

Hi, it's Annabelle.

I know that in NVDA, there's a parameter where you can choose to have
progress bars "Speak" or "Beep", and I wonder if JAWS can do the same as
well? If so, what's the parameter I could use to select whether JAWS
speaks or beeps when announcing progress bars? So far, the only
parameters I've found for progress bars in JAWS are "Spoken" and "Silent".

Hi,

I know this is a Jaws list, but I was hoping somebody could point me
to a tutorial or Podcast on NVDA and maybe answer one question: how
can I unload NVDA? I assume there is a shortcut key for this similar
to Jaws Key+F4 for Jaws. I downloaded NVDA and it started up in this
horrible voice. I had it years ago and bought Eloquence and I just
have to figure out again how I can get this set up as I'd like to
learn how to use it a bit as a backup to Jaws. Hopefully having bought
this once will allow me to still use it. I did manage to set it so it
doesn't start automatically so I can always reboot the computer to get
rid of it, but earlier I was going to open Notepad for which I usually
set up the shortcut key Alt+Control+N only to realize that apparently
NVDA has userpted this key combination and it came up again. It does
say how to get into the menus for NVDA, but that default voice is so
bad that I can't for the life of me understand the key combination for
that.

Ah, having used Jaws for 27 years has made it hard to get used to
anything else, it's like an old shoe that just fits so well.

From what I understand, there used to be a form that came up when I would
click on that link. I tried emailing Vectormedia Software, but they haven't
responded, and I know it's been more than 24 hours. They say they respond to

most requests within 24 hours. I know I followed all the requirements for
posting an email, and I know they've put me on their Safe Senders and Safe
Recipients lists when I first became a customer in 2007, so I wonder what's
going on.

when I got on the page and found the supportrequest link, I pressed the
space bar, but no form came up to fill out. I used Firefox but don't
know if Internet Explorer works. got to go, and good luck.

From what I understand, the "Supportrequest" link is supposed to activate
a
form where you fill out the information, then when you send it, there's a
confirmation that your request is received, then they tell you which
numbered customer you are in the cue, and that there's a specific amount of
time between then and when your request would be answered. By the way,
Mario, if you Email me off list, could you tell me how I could access this
link with JAWS 10?

I also tried the URL and in trying to activate the supportrequest link,
I didn't have a problem. but if you're trying to email support, there's
a send email link above. activate it, your default email client should
launch, ready for a subject and message. don't forget the specs they ask
for in the email.

I usually use the space bar to activate links, buttons, etc. instead of
the enterkey. but that's just me.

The link I mean is on the contact page, the one that says "supportrequest".

I clicked the link you provided and it was working for me.

Normally, when what occurs you describe, I usually do a screen refresh
and all is well.

I try to click on this link on the Vectormedia Software contact page,
but it doesn't do anything. Instead, it just stays stuck on the main
screen of the contact page. What do I do next? I think this particular
link might be broken. When I clicked on it before, it used to take me to
a page where I could fill out a support request form, but now it doesn't
do anything.
