Annabelle,

Try installing iTunes with the .exe file from:

www.ninite.com

I always use this as it just installs the program without any other junk. Regarding the help menu, I just checked it and I can read parts of it but generally most is written for sighted folks which is not that helpful for us.

See if you can get this installed from there and then we can try to get it set up so you can use

I wonder, why don't they have a regular help file, like a .chm for ITunes 12, like they used to have for older versions? Every time I try to access the help section, JAWS won't read what's on the screen.

Hello,

I’m trying to download/in stall iTunes on my Windows 7 computer, because I wanted to play some blind-friendly games. I have been told, when I try to look at the games, that they can’t find iTunes; when I go into “programs and features,” I also don’t see iTunes listed. So, where the heck is iTunes going, if anywhere, and if nowhere, how can I get it to download and install on my PC? Thanks!

What kinds of games, blind-friendly or not, require iTunes for Windows in order to run?

Is there a program or app that will allow me to cancel out vocals from a recorded track?

Thank you.

Hi Sandra,

I can't tell you why iTunes isn't installing but, once installed it's in your Program Files folder on the root of the C Drive, & it should be in Programs & Features as well.
Take care.

Hello Sandra,

It may be in your web browser. If IE press control J, and you should get a list of downloads in the view downloads dialog. Down arrow, if necessary, to the one you want, then left arrow to open.

Cheers Kevin.

JAWS not speaking repeat find

Ann Byrne

Windows 10. Word 2010. JAWS 17 latest.

On one computer, when I press ctrl+f and type text to find, JAWS speaks only the first instance of the text. When I press enter for find next, the cursor moves to the next instance but JAWS does not speak it.

On another computer with the same configuration when I presss ctrl+f and type text to find, JAWS speaks not only the first instance but all subsequent instances of the text. I have tinkered with all the JAWS settings that seem applicable, changed the color scheme to Windows 10, repaired JAWS, run JAWS /default ... nada. Any ideas????

thanks,

Ann

Re: navigating through tables

Lauren,

You may or may not have success with having JAWS announce fields correctly depending on how the MS-Word document (usually in the form of a fill-in form) or the web page is coded.  A truly accessible MS-Word form using form fields should have help text coded for each field, with Status Bar help text being announced when you land in the field to enter data and F1 help text if something might require additional explanation.  Web pages have similar attributes, but I think it's the alt-text that gets read on entry into a given form field.

If you are able to share the web address of the volunteermatch webpage where you're trying to fill out a form I can see what NVDA has to say as I traverse the fields to see if there are any "dead zones" as far as announcing name/purpose of the field.  The page may simply not be coded correctly to be accessible.

Also, if you have a URL for a specific Word form that you're having trouble with please post it as well.

navigating through tables

Lauren Snyder

Hi:

I am running Windows 10th anniversary with Jaws 17, IE11 and Office 2016. When I opened a file in Word where I need to fill out a form, Jaws reads a table and says the row. However, it does not read all the contents of that table. When I went online just now to complete a form on volunteermatch to register for instance, Jaws also does not read everything in a table. How can I get Jaws to read all the elements so I know I am typing in the correct info where it needs to do? T

Panning issues in notepad++

Daniel Montalvo

Hello all,

I am having issues when panning with my Focus 40 Blue braille display and JAWS in Notepad++ What I do to reproduce the issue is the following.

  • Open the program, Notepad++
  • Write something that is more than forty characters (or the dimensions of your braille display) so that the whole line of code does not fit into the display and panning is necessary to get to read the text in the whole line.
  • Once you have done this, try and pan right by using your preferred method. I am using the key on the display that is marked with an arrow right sign. This button is placed to the right of the front panel of the Focus.

Jaws is supposed to present the rest of the text in the display but, instead, what happens to me is that such text appears for a second or so and then it pans left on its own so that the text of the beginning of the code line is shown. If I press the panning button once more, the same happens all over again.
Has anybody come across this issue as well? If so, is Freedom Scientific aware of this? This not only happens to Notepad++ but it also happens an application called TWBlue which is a twitter client. However, I guess it will be much easier to reproduce this in a well-known aplication such as Notepad++.

Thanks in advance.

Re: How can I learn to better use internet with JAWS?

Thanks for this,I’m going to work on the Flexible Web. I’m sure it could be helpful. I end up going to the same web sites for the most part. Joe

Starting Flexible Web

To use Flexible Web do the following:

list of 3 items

1. Open a Web page you want to customize in Internet Explorer or Firefox.

2. Move the Virtual PC Cursor to the page element you want to hide, or from where you want to start reading when the page first loads.

3. Activate the Flexible Web wizard by pressing the layered keystroke INSERT+SPACEBAR, followed by X. Alternatively, press INSERT+F2 to open the Run JAWS

Manager dialog box, then choose Flexible Web.

list end

Temporary Customization

Through several easy-to-follow steps, The Flexible Web wizard that opens provides you with two options:

list of 2 items

• Hide

• Start reading at the selected element

list end

The wizard then guides you through the process of creating a temporary customization by giving you various choices about the selected element and how you

want to hide it or from where exactly to start reading. Once the customization has been made, it is immediately applied to the page. For instance, if you

choose to hide all frames containing advertisements, you will not see any advertisements when navigating the page after making this temporary customization.

If you are not happy with how a customization is working, you can open the Flexible Web wizard to undo the last customization you made. When you return

to the page, you can choose a different element or the same one, and then reactivate the Flexible Web wizard to retry the customization again perhaps with

different criteria. For example, in the case of hiding those advertisement frames mentioned earlier, you probably want to hide all of them, not just the

first one on the page. The wizard will provide you with choices about whether to hide just the first one or all of them.

Saving Rules

You can create as many customizations for a page as you want. Once you have created one or more customizations, you can save them as a rule, which is applied

every time you load the particular page or site. To indicate that a rule has been applied to a page, JAWS plays a sound after the page loads. Rules can

be applied to the current Web page, entire Web site, or globally for all Web sites. Otherwise, customizations are only temporary and are lost as soon as

you navigate away from the current Web page or close the browser. If you have made temporary customizations and you attempt to navigate to another page

or close the browser, a dialog box opens asking if you want to save your customizations as a rule.

Goodmorning,

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 10 Anniversary edition and JAWS 17. I would like to learn how to read newspaper articles on the wweb more efficiently. If I click on a New York Times Article or any other large news site I end up fighting my way through tons of advertisements and other distractions while trying to read the article. It is the same with my hometown newspaper site. Where should I go to learn how to be more efficient?

You can attend the tech talk on Tuesday evenings at 8:00 PM eastern, or write to the tech team for Out-Of-Sight at:
You should also check your volume settings while you are in a chat room by going into your File Menu and arrowing down to Microphone Settings.  Be sure your microphone is selected as your default.

I hope this helps,
