Re: How do you make the gmail account your default mail?

Gmail has recently improved their security by not allowing third-party programs use Gmail. In order for you to use Gmail and third-party programs, you must go to your Gmail account using the browser and you must enable allow less secure apps.

Re: How do you make the gmail account your default mail?
I just posted a dedicated thread about getting Windows Live Mail 2012. Additional detail would be necessary regarding rejection of a gmail address in the Windows 10 mail app. I have never seen one work other than flawlessly and clearly there's some small snag here and it's a matter of determining what that snag is.

Windows 10 virtual desktops
Cristóbal
Hello list, I’m a heavy user of virtual desktops in Windows 10. One issue I’m encountering that while doesn’t impact my ability to use the various desktops, is somewhat annoying. When I rotate among the desktops (control+windows key+left/right arrow) Jaws will sometimes land on a window that says “desktop unavailable” and sometimes not. This is pretty random and I haven’t been able to figure out a pattern to when it may pop up. Clicking or trying to otherwise interact with the window doesn’t do much. Sometimes, I can get the window to go away so that just the applications I have open in those desktops appear, but again, I haven’t been able to figure out what it is I’m doing to even close it. Once I alt+tab out of that window, then it’ll go away. It’s only there the first time I rotate into the desktop. I am using the latest version of JFW, but this issue has been present ever since I can recall using virtual desktops in Windows 10. Has anyone else dealt with this particular issue and perhaps have a fix for it?
Thanks,

Obtaining Windows Live Mail 2012
Windows Live Mail is a part of the Windows Essentials Bundle, which can be downloaded from: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17779/download-windows-essentials When doing the install process you can choose which of the programs in the bundle will actually be installed. I have only installed WLM 2012.

Re: how do you reply to list messages from within the jfw threads web site?
Ryan, What URL are you using to access what you're calling the "list archives page"? If you are using https://jfw.groups.io/g/main/topics then when you open any given thread/topic to read it there is a reply link at the bottom of each and every message, provided a thread is not locked.

Very good stuff, but...

How can I get WLM onto my Windows10 machine? When I search for it I am automatically put onto Edge, though FireFox is indicated as my dedicated browser. And, similarly; when I am attempting to add my Gmail account to the onboard Mail App and entering my gmail address it refuses to take the g in the address no matter what I do. What is up with that?

how do you reply to list messages from within the jfw threads web site?
Ryan Coverdell
Sometimes I would just like to reply to messages from within the list
archives page. This is not accessible from the page. Where is this option from
within the list itself? I do not receive the list archives by email anymore so I
cannot simply reply to the list from email.

how do you make an existing windows live mail account the default account?
Ryan Coverdell
I have successfully configured my gmail account and want to make it the
default account. The instructions sent to me by Kevin Hourigan tell how to set
one up, which I’ve already done. I want to switch between accounts and set gmail
as default. I may later want to set another existing account as default (like my
old centurytel one) or fix the configuration issues associated with it. How do
you do this in wlm? The keyboard shortcuts are not announced when I hit the alt
key. It says upper ribbon but does not tell how to access stuff there. Thank you
ahead of time for your assistance.

Hello Ryan,

Here are some more notes I saved from the Jaws List. I am using Outlook now so am not able to check that they are current. Attach file to e-mail letter 1. Save file to My Documents folder 2. Go to e-mail and create new letter 3. press alt, 4. left arrow to insert, or press alt I 5. down arrow to attach file, and press enter. 6. a. Press shift tab to treview and select file. If the treview is limited to a few files do the following; If you are in the "Tree View" when browsing, and you utilize the left and right arrows to open and close the different folders, this will work fine until you reach the folder which contains the file which you are trying to locate, i.e. the documents folder. When you reach the documents folder, and it says closed, do not press the right arrow key to open it, simply press the tab key. This will also open the folder and will reveal all of the files and folders within it, not just a select few. 6b. Go to documents folder, select file, but do not open it, just press control C, and that will copy its address. Then paste it into the file edit box in your letter. 6. c. type file name in edit box, include file extension, dot d o c x 7. Press enter

Re: How do you make the gmail account your default mail?
"Kevin Hourigan " <kevinthourigan@...>
Hello Ryan, Here are some notes I saved from the list. Adding an account to Windows Live Mail 2012 via Keyboard Commands1. Open WLM 2. Hit ALT+S to be taken to the Accounts Tab followed by E to open the Create E-mail Account dialog 3. Navigate to the e-mail address box and enter your e-mail address. 4. Navigate to the Password Box and enter your password 5. Navigate to the “Remember this Password” checkbox and make sure it’s checked. It should be checked by default. 6. Navigate to the “Display Name for your Sent Messages” box and enter the name you wish to have shown before your e-mail address when you send e-mail messages. This can be left empty, but I don’t advise doing that. 7. If you wish the account you’re adding to become your default account when WLM opens then navigate to the “Make this my default e-mail account” checkbox, and check it. 8. There remains one checkbox, “Manually configure server settings” that follows the default account checkbox. There are very few e-mail service providers, if the one you’re using is a major one like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Verizon, etc., that WLM does not already have the configuration information for in its database. I advise leaving this unchecked. 9. Activate the Next button. 10. If everything goes as expected then you’ll get a message that the account was added and you can just activate the Finish button. If it did not, you’ll need to find out what the specific server settings are for the e-mail provider you’re using, including the necessary port numbers for the incoming and outgoing mail servers, and the security and login protocols used for each, then circle back to step 8, but check the checkbox to manually configure server settings. I will not get into the server settings configuration dialogs at this time, as they are seldom needed.

I finally got the windows live mail to work. Praise God!
A few weeks ago gmail evidently blocked things for security reasons, but now I finally have my gmail account working on my windows live mail system. But I’m still confused about some accessibility issues. First, how do I turn off the annoying feature of it checking my other email account for new messages? That account is no longer configured properly and I don’t use it for now. Also, I didn’t set this one up as default yet and how do you do that using the keyboard? Please send to my email address as I will have this windows live mail program open and that would be the easiest way to get things today.
