Some one replied to my question about sending accessibility questions
by pointing me to a blind access group to send non jaws related
questions. This link does not bring up a complete email address.
Rather, it cut off with a bunch of period signs. Please send the same
link to me again so I have the forum to send non jaws related
questions to.

Regards,

Ryan Coverdell

P.S. I do not receive list messages in my email anymore so along with
sending it to the list I would like this reply sent in a separate
message if possible. Same with the questions I asked a few minutes
ago, if it's not too much to ask.

how do send attachements in web mail

Ryan Coverdell

What is the easiest way to attachments from my desktop pc to messages
using web mail? It's not as simple as simply typing the name of the
file I want to attach. How do you do this in as few steps as possible?
Please, can some one respond? My windows live mail program is not
working and web mail is not my default so I can't simply go to the
send link by email option from the file itself.

how to get the iheartradio.com site to display genres and stations other than the top New York ones

Ryan Coverdell

I would like to find genres and other things using iheartradio.com. I
like the fact that it's free and I don't have to (yet) create a
password or anything to listen.

I would like to find stations and genres and such using a browse
feature on the iheart.com page. Does such a feature exist using Jaws
14 and windows 7? I go to iheart.com and press enter on genres. But
the actual genre list does not appear. Iheartradio.com seems to
instead direct me to listen to top stations in New York City. Do any
of you have any suggestions on how to get the site to work? I would
like to contact them and let them know my issues but I'm not sure how
to do this. The site worked a lot better some years ago.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts,

Ryan Coverdell

Bookmark in pdf and ppt

Anna Givens

Is there a way to put a bookmark or marker in pdf documents. I have some pdf documents that are readable with JAWS but they are very long and I want to bookmark the section or line where I left off so that I can go right to it next time I access the document. Also I'd like to in a sense "highlight" lines or words. If multiple bookmarks can be placed in the document then I can mark those things that I find particularly important so that I can access just those phrases in the future.

Also I have a question about Powerpoint. I am wondering why pressing F6 does not ever get me to the notes area in a ppt presentation. I am using office 365 powerpoint and i think i have jaws 16, although it may be even older than that, I'm not sure.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Anna E Givens

Re: address for the accessible facebook

Laura Richardson

I’ve used the mobile FB site for some time now with great success.  I’ve never had the mobile site take me to the regular site.  Are you sure you’re not logged into both?  I would log out of the mobile site and then go to the regular FB site and log out.  Once you know you’re logged out of both, go to m.facebook.com and log in.

After you click on comments it takes you to another page; you’ll know this because if you go to the top of the page it will say “comments”.  Arrow down until you get to the edit box; type your comment and arrow down once to press enter on “comment button”.  To get back to the newsfeed (the previous page) press alt plus left arrow to go back.  Sometimes you have to press alt plus left arrow a couple of times before it goes back.

When you log into the FB mobile site and go to the top of the page it will say Facebook.  After you arrow down through the posts you will press enter on “see more stories”.  When you do this and go to the top of the page it will now say “newsfeed”.  Arrow down through the posts until you get to “see more stories” and press enter again to view more posts.  If you want to go back to the start of the newsfeed go to the top of the page and arrow down until you hear it say home and press enter.  You’ll know you’re at the start of the newsfeed because at the top of the page it will say Facebook and not newsfeed.

I’m not real great at explaining things so I hope this helps without confusion.

Laura

Hey, it's the Sherpa here.

Ask any doctor… any specialist… or the half-a-million American families who lose a loved one every year...

And they'll all tell you no one survives Alzheimer's disease because there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease.

Well, that may not be true...

Not anymore.

Because according to insider sources, for the past 3.5 years scientists in a government-funded research lab have been using a process called the ICT Protocol to help treat Alzheimer's.

And it's been successful.

This protocol has been bringing back full mental function — memories, intelligence, quick-thinking, and even sense of humor.

It has a few researchers cautiously whispering “cure.”

The best part is, the ICT Protocol is NOT a new drug from pill-pushing Big Pharma…

And it's not an expensive new surgery, either.

In fact, it's 100% natural medicine.

What the ICT Protocol is may shock you at first…

It's so simple and inexpensive, you can do it from the comfort of your own home.

But then as a Natural Health Sherpa reader, you'll probably think, “Well, of course that works.”

If you're worried about aging parents…

Or losing your memory yourself…

Then you NEED to see this.

Re: Note taker with JF W

The El Braille is a Note Taker and I would guess it will sell for around $5,000.00, depending on the number of braille cells.  Your point is a good one and I think you will see the cost of braille displays coming down significantly once the Orbit comes out.  I just hope APH continues to produce the product.  I have known too many times when APH just stopped producing a product.

Please, folks, I am not saying that to be mean. FS tries to put as much into things as they can. There are some times when simple is better for some people.

APH is also coming out with a braille display with some, but very limited, stand alone capability and it will sell for $500.00.  I think it has a 20 cell display.  Things are happening rapidly in the braille note taker and display fields today.

Danney:

I share your frustration that the PAC Mate stopped being updated in
2009.  FS claims it is Microsoft that is responsible for this
obsolescence, since for a long time mobile versions of the Windows
operating system became inaccessible to blind people.

FS does have a next generation, Braille-enabled, portable device
coming out, and I handled a prototype of this at the 2016 National
Convention of the National Federation of the Blind.  It's called the
ElBraille.

The American Foundation for the Blind has a review of this device.  In
summary, AFB describes ElBraille as follows:  "Elbraile is a full
mobile portable computer running on Windows 10 together with Jaws for
Windows.  It contains a docking station, integrated with Freedom
Scientific's Focus 14 Braille display. This docking station contains
the perkins style keyboard and all the navigation options that you
find on the Focus 14."
https://www.afb.org/prodProfile.asp?ProdID=1951 Personally, I prefer a
longer Braille display.
But if your need is for something that will run Windows 10 and that is
flexible enough for you to install third-party software applications
customized to your needs, then the ElBraille might be for you.  As I
understand it, this has not been released to the public yet, but it is
due in October.

On the other hand, if you don't need something that runs Windows 10
or JFW precisely, Marianne is correct in pointing out that the BrailleNote
Touch might work fabulously well for what you want.  I also handled
this device, which is available right now from HumanWare.  It does not
run JAWS--note that HumanWare and Freedom Scientific's parent company
VFO still are competitors, at least for now--but the BrailleNote Touch
is sweet, and it's probably what I would get today if I were in the
market for a new portable device.  The Touch is a fully-functioning,
blind-friendly Android tablet with a 32-cell Braille display.  Unlike
some other devices, it is designed specifically to give us access to
Google Docs, Google Books, and Google office applications such as the
spreadsheet program Google Sheets.  And, for a limited time only,
HumanWare points out you can trade in your PAC Mate or other older
notetaker device and get a discount off the stated purchase price of a
BrailleNote Touch.  Don't get me wrong--this is still quite expensive
out of the box.  But I was quite impressed when I played with this.
Another option is the NeoBraille notetaker, offered by Irie-AT:
https://irie-at.com/content/neobraille-notetaker.  I did not play with
that one, but it too uses Android technology and seems to have some
up-to-date, useful features.

If all you want is a Braille display with some smart capabilities such
as storage of what you have typed, then you might look into the
Braille Edge from HIMS Inc.
https://hims-inc.com/products/braille-edge-40/, or the various
editions of HumanWare Brailliant
http://humanware.com/en-usa/products/blindness/braille_displays, or
the new Baum VarioUltra Smart line of displays
http://www.baumusa.com/products/varioultra/
I know that in the case of the line from Baum USA, these can in
some cases be paired via Bluetooth with five different devices at the
same time; so you can seamlessly switch the source of your input from
your computer to your smartphone to your tablet, etc., without having
to keep unpairing and re-pairing your display among each of these
several input devices.
Probably too much to think about here, but just want to make sure you
understand the variety of options out there.  They are legion.  Of
course, the funds to pay for them remain a challenge.

Kind regards,

-Kane

Drew, I did precisely that. Thanks, and have a nice day.

Gudrun,

I agree it would be nice to be able to do this. One thing you can do for a
situation like you suggested with the birthday comments is to reply to the
separate e-mails with a comment like "thank you". The reply will leave a
comment on that post so it doesn't send the reply to the person individually
but it's a way to respond without going to the fb site.

Hi Gang: When we get these Facebook messages like "today is Lisa Smiths's
birthday. Wish Lisa a happy birthday," the only type of links you can click
on from there takes you to the regular Facebook sites, at least, that's what
I think. Wouldn't it be nice if m.facebook could be activated instead?
Anyone found a solution? I often ignore these requests, but I got 22
birthday greetings for my last birthday, and ignoring requests to
reciprocate makes me feel like a cad-or should it be "cadesse," since I'm of
the female persuasion?

Cheers,

Hello Gudrun:

I sign on to the mobile site, enter my "friend list", and write on the timeline of the friend.

Or just go to the Edit field for all FB friends and post your happy birthday there.
