Re: Basic Windows 10 Question

I ran the upgrade on two systems and had to different experiences.  But if Jaws can read the prompts and you can follow them it shouldn’t be too difficult.  I can’t vouch for how well Jaws runs on Win10, but my Win7 to Win10 on one system was a piece of cake.  The other one hung up at 99% twice, so I ended up having to download the upgrade file to a USB device and install manually.  It worked like that, and both systems recognized all my old software, I suspect Jaws should be OK.  Freedom Scientific recommends removing any non-updated versions of Jaws, so you may need to delete older versions.  They have other notes on their website at:

Group,

OK, I am going to take the plunge as the “free” upgrade to Windows 10 will expire at the end of the month.  Are there any helpful tips when downloading and installing the new operating system?  I am reasonably computer literate and I am running the latest build of JFW.

Thanks in advance for any websites to visit in this regard,

Strange Windows 7 Issue Regarding External Device Listings Under My Computer

Tom Behler

Hello, everyone.

I have just noticed a problem on the newly-acquired Windows 7 laptop I’m working with.

When I insert a media storage device into one of the USB ports, such as an external hard drive, or a thumb drive, the computer gives me the sound indicating that the device is recognized.  However, the device is not listed as an available device under “My Computer”.

The only way I can get the new device to come up under “my computer” is to shut down and then re-boot the computer.

Is there a setting that I need to change in Windows 7 to get these external devices to be automatically recognized and listed in the usual way?

I’m using Windows 7 and Jaws 17 here.

Dr.  Tom Behler From Michigan

It did get cut off or messed up. I went to Word and tried the steps, but neither worked.

When I hit Open and tabbed to my Document directory and tried it, I got a context menu.

Yesterday, when I entered text in the source edit field, Jaws read that when I pressed alt down, but all at once, not in a list. Today I do not even get that.

Yes, that Alt-N-A-F works in 13 for sending attachments. I

If you use Alt+h a f to add an attachment under Microsoft
Outlook 2016 (but not under earlier versions), you are
presented with a list of recently opened files from which
you can select. There's also an option to attach a file that
is not on the list.

Note also that you can show or hide the bcc field with Alt+p
b. In general, the key sequences to access commands on the

navigate the ribbon.
