Re: Learning specifics with Jaws

Donna <mermaid7@...>

Hi Carolyn

Where in North Carolina do you live, if you don't mind my asking? I live in Wilmington & have been told by DBS and my local vocational center there is no services available to help me to learn braille or JAWS. DBS has absolutely NO problem finding financial resources for a friend here to take part in clinical eye surgery trials out of state! To get help thru DBS a person has to be in college or employed...How does someone like me get to that point if services aren't available to help me learn what I need to get a job or go to college.

Donna

Here, in North Carolina, they have a wonderful training center with
really good instructors. It might be a very good idea to contact your
state agency for the blind, especially, if you have a goal of obtaining a
job.

Bye for now,

Carolyn

Hello,

Could somebody please recommend the best way/resource to learn how to do
specific things using Jaws? For example, changing email passwords,
learning how to use MP3 player to take archived webinars, becoming more
proficient with using Microsoft Word, uploading or downloading, i.e.
resume, and other various specific things so I can be more independent
and help myself to be more competitive in the work force in the process
of searching for a job? Does the department of vocational services help
with these things or does it depend on what state you're in?

I've spent many, many hours Googling and trying to find ways to learn how
to do things on my own with Jaws ...... I'm becoming very discouraged and
frustrated with trying to achieve these goals. I would greatly
appreciate any input or suggestions that any of y'all can provide.

Thank you,

Laura

Ps - I use Jaws 15, Windows 7, Microsoft Word 2010, Outlook 2010, and

Thanks, I was able to find the mobile site and I think that will help. I'm not sure that I can do everything I need to do there though, so the additional comments about trying to experiment with making forms that work is also very helpful.
Haven't tried it yet, but I am glad to have something to try. Thanks again, Bonni

While the page is open, press insert v, arrow down to forms mode and experiment with setting it to auto, manual or semi auto.

The mobile site is better but edit fields can still be a problem.

Subject: Learning specifics with Jaws

Hello,

Could somebody please recommend the best way/resource to learn how to do specific things using Jaws?  For example, changing email passwords, learning how to use MP3 player to take archived webinars, becoming more proficient with using Microsoft Word, uploading or downloading, i.e. resume, and other various specific things so I can be more independent and help myself to be more competitive in the work force in the process of searching for a job?  Does the department of vocational services help with these things or does it depend on what state you’re in?

I’ve spent many, many hours Googling and trying to find ways to learn how to do things on my own with Jaws ...... I’m becoming very discouraged and frustrated with trying to achieve these goals.  I would greatly appreciate any input or suggestions that any of y’all can provide.

Thank you,

Laura

Ps – I use Jaws 15, Windows 7, Microsoft Word 2010, Outlook 2010, and Internet Explorer
