           In addition to Mario's excellent suggestion you might want to look into Google Hangouts if you have a Google Account.  I believe if you use the web interface instead of the App it's accessible (for all I know the App may now be accessible via Narrator or using the touch cursor).

           You end up selecting a phone number, for no charge, and people can text you directly via that number.  I use my Google Voice/Google Hangouts number far more often than my actual cell phone for texting.

That worked well. It will do for the moment. I'm one of those stubborn old ones who has resisted the addition of a smart phone and touch technology for to long now.Looks like it's time to bite the bullet and go there. LOL.

            I don't know which of the following webpages will be the most JAWS friendly, but one should be.  Each gives step-by-step instructions for changing your default inbox (these steps did not change that I know of for Outlook 2013 and I think they're the same for Outlook 2016, too):

I suspect that Outlook is opening with the Outlook folders by default, and this folder set is not associated with any specific e-mail account and cannot be deleted.  However, if you set up a different inbox as your start folder you can conveniently ignore it entirely.

Also, Caps Lock+ A will read all of the text. Keep in mind that the J, K,
and L with the Caps Lock held down, will read previous current, and next
word. The letters: U, I, and O, with the Caps Lock held down, will read
previous, current, and next line. The characters, M, Comma, and Period, will
Read previous, current, and next character. This is so awesome, because you
do not have to take your fingers from where you are typing. I use the laptop
layout on a Desktop computer. The desktop commands are not taken from you,
the Laptop commands are added to the desktop commands you already have. It

Skype is very good at connecting with the person you are helping and then use JAWS tandem or NVDA remote to connect to their computer. Using Skype to talk to each other, and one of those remote programs, you can teach or do anything to help a person with their computer. Have you tested it on another machine. It is possible that the monitor itself has died. When that's the case the Device Manager will still report that the monitor is working properly because from the computer's side, it is.

If this is a laptop I have other possibilities, but more information is needed.

I would suggest googling the "black monitor repair" . You will find solutions on how to repair this type of problem. There is even you tube videos on the topic.

You may have a problem with worn out capacitors in the monitor if it has been used a lot.
