Hi Vanna,

Try 1 of the following 2 ways:
#1:
1. While in the application / program that you're having this issue with press, Insert / Jaws key + 6, on the number row, to open the Settings Center for this particular application / program.
2. Arrow Down to, Users, & press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down 1 time to, Progress Bar Updates Announcement, press the spacebar to cycle through the options until you hear Jaws report, Off.
4. Tab to the, Okay, button, press enter to save your change & close the Settings Center.

#2:
1. While in the particular application / program press, Insert / Jaws key + V, to open Jaws Quick Settings for this application / program.
2. Arrow down to, General Options / Progress Bar...., & you'll probably hear Jaws report, Progress Bar Spoken
3. Press the spacebar to hear Progress Bar Silent, tab to the, Okay button, & press enter to save your change & close.
Take care.

Re: replying to posts

I haven't been able to analyze the full mail header, but Bill's theory sounds correct.  All e-mail addresses are masked on the web forum.  They get cut off at the at sign.  I'm going to toss my junk e-mail address right here:  guyslp@...    and I'm almost certain that when you all see it it will have an ellipsis after the at sign.

There are all kinds of techniques, and in this case legitimate ones, to mask actual e-mail addresses used to send messages on a public mailing list.

No, it's not a problem with Thunderbird. I am getting the
main@jfw.groups.io
address on my replies and sent files, too. I think it's a way to obscure the sender's name so that hackers cannot get the email addresses which are subscribed to the lists.

I get that, but I also noticed that the copies of the replies I send go into the sent folder, and the from also has main@jfw.groups.io instead of my name. and additionally, it also happens with the other MLs I subscribe to. I also tried with NVDA, but the problem persists. so, it must be a problem with Thunderbird, specifically after it updated to version 45.

Mario,

This is not a problem, at least not in the conventional sense
of that word.

All messages that are sent to you from any groups.io forum
originate with the e-mail address for that given forum. It's what one
would expect to have in the from field, as the forum itself sent it just
like it does all correspondence from anyone. The forums software
becomes "the bucket brigade" in circulating a message you originated to
the subscribers, including back to you.

Your e-mail client, Thunderbird, is doing precisely what it
should do. When you respond, to any message from anyone, your name and
e-mail address show up in the from field. You are composing the
message, so it is indeed from you.

for some reason, when I reply to a post and I eventually receive my posts, the from header does not show my name, instead it shows main@jaws.groups.io, followed by the to, date sent, and subject. but when I open it and press control+r, my name shows up in the from field. I am using Thunderbird 45.0.
is there a setting that I can adjust to fix this problem?

Re: compressing large files

do you know what format the recording is? if it's an mp3, it is a compressed audio file and will not significantly compress any further. but if it is a wav format, converting it to an mp3 or other format will result in about 1/40th of the size, depending on what what format it's converted to.
if you know or can find out what frequency, bit rate, and if it is a monaurial or stereo recording, it might be possible to shrink it a bit to a suitable size. or, and this is probly not possible, rerecording it at a different frequency, bit rate, and a single channel (mono) might result in a smaller size, but am not sure of the recording quality that will result.

When I have tried to access the sports broadcasts, I have been able to do so. It is a bit tricky, but once you figure out how the web-site works, you can get around. I do utilize the JAWS find feature a lot. I would be glad to show you what I know if you're interested. I would also be willing to discuss this with Jonathan Mosen, if he is interested in talking with me about it.

My trial is nearing an end and lately their system didn't recognize I had flash player. I uninstalled it and now it won't download and install. Don't worry about this aspect. I know Freedom Scientific has reached out to corporations to offer them ways to improve their accessibility and I wish Sirius would work with someone to help them and me work with the aspects of their system which I don't understand or cannot easily use. Re: compressing large files

Mario

can you explain what you want to do, and what type of file or files you want to compress? there are some formats that will not significantly compress, thus wasting your time. but if you're wanting to package them up into a zip file:

with the file or files selected, press the applications key or if you don't have one, press shift+f10. arrow down to the send to dialog and press enter, and arrow to and enter on compressed... you can then type a name for the file + the dot .zip extension or accept the default name and press enter. note the name of the zip file.

I can email it. How can I do that with JFW?

I had to play around with this myself using the latest build of JAWS 17.
The traditional method of switching addresses didn't seem to work for me.
JAWS announces from button. I press the spacebar, and then use my arrow
keys to select the account that I want to send from. Before, when I
tabbed to the from field, I believe it showed as a dropdown box. Hope
this info is helpful.

How would I know if this is the case? Jaws still reads the "from" field.
thanks

I'm wondering if that field is hidden from view? If so, you should be
able to change that in your settings?

Dear list,

I am using the latest version of jaws 17, and can't figure any way to
have jaws read me my "from " field when trying to select an address to
send a message from. Anyone else experiencing this? any suggestions?
thanks

Hi there! In a word, yes, the on-line version of the Sirius XM player is

It
works even better than the on-line version does.
I would be happy to go more indepth on how to utilize the on-line version

Hello. I have Sirius/XM Internet Radio. My home radio may have died and I
am not going to replace it because I have had a run of bad luck with their
radios. Is the Sirius/XM Internet player accessible with JAWS 17? I have
tried it out, and it seems somewhat accessible, but if there is anyone out
there who has made this work for them I want tips. I know there has been a
recent discussion about this recently, so not to clutter the list with
repetitive stuff, feel free to e-mail me off list with information.
