Back in the day, you could click outside the body of the footnote and get out that way; does that still work?

I don’t know if this is the best way to access text in a header, but it’s the one I know. I go to the Ribbon.

ALT + N for the Insert menu.

Then press H or header or O for footer.

Then E for Edit.

That will dump you into the header or footer pane (whichever you chose).

Once you are in the header or footer you can use the up or down arrow keys to go to the other. For example, if you are in the footer and press the up arrow key you’ll land in the header.

When you are done, press Escape to return to the document.

Hi All,

Can someone kindly tell me how I can access headers and footers in word documents? I seem to have significant trouble inserting into documents because I can’t figure out where they have ended up, are they formatted properly? I also can’t seem to access the text in a header, for example, when someone else sends me a document.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

JAWS has a very nifty feature for accessing the comments, footnotes, endnotes, and revisions in a Word document.

First, hold down the windows key and press the ; key.  You will get a vertical list box showing, e.g. the footnotes, if any.  You will see the author of the footnote, and the text.  Use the up and down arrow keys, and press enter on the one you want to change.  You will be put into the text at that point.

I forget how to access the headers, someone else on this list should know that.

Good luck,

Tim Ford

Re: Is there a way to make an application accessible (most likely by writing a script)?

Mo McCleary <mo.mccleary@...>

Script Utility Mode, formerly called Home Row Mode, contains many keys for obtaining information useful when developing scripts.

Try Windows + JAWSKey + NumpadMinus

Then turn on keyboard help on with insert 1 on number row and explore the assignments of the function keys.  You have to turn script utility mode off again with Windows insert minus key command again which is a toggle.

At least it can help you get started.

Hi. First of all I must say I have some experience with software development, but really not with the JAWS scripts.

There is one application (Sublime Text editor, if you're interested in the actual product name) which is great but is not accessible with jaws or, more precisely, partially accessible, e.g. menus are read but not some dialogs and, the main problem, the edit area is not accessible (JAWS doesn't read anything from it). Needless to say that makes the application useless as it is a text editor.

So my question is if there is some way to bring up JAWS together with the product in question. It seems like it is using some sort of custom richedit control , possibly developed by the author, but, since I am not very much into GUI programming, I don't know for sure.

I am not asking some one to do it for me (if it is possible at all) but rather point me a direction to research

Re: Is there a way to make an application accessible (most likely by writing a script)?

Soronel Haetir

In the best cases multi-line edit classes are particularly difficult
to make accessible via scripting, in the worst pretty much impossible.

I was, however, under the impression that sublime is open source, and
for a multi-line editor that would likely be a far better route to
attack this problem from.

a question

chet smalley <braille@...>

An individual I know still uses JFW 6.2, and Eudora.
Occasionally, this person, when she opens her inbox hears this:
“no message selected.”
But then she hears, for example:
“56 of 56”
if, in fact, there are 56 messages.
It sounds like there is something blocking JAWS from “seeing” the list; however, there is nothing listed in the windows list of running programs, insert+F10.
Any thoughts?
