Hi Lauren

I just sent a message to you mentioning VLC. Now, what you do is go to the menu bar and find playback. Activate that, then arrow down until you find the title sub menu open that and click on the title that you want to play. Also, don’t forget to google “VLC Media Player for windows keyboard shortcuts”

Hi,

I found the vlc media player, installed it, and got as far as hearing music on the dvd I put in. I pressed enter as instructed, but nothing happens except the music keeps continuing and the movie doesn’t start.

Help please!

Hi Lauren

Some people used to have some success doing it that way, but I never got that to work either that’s why I use the title list in the menus. If you have any more questions feel free to email or skype me.

I got Vlc to start, but can’t get passed the intro music to the actual movie.

I found on a google search from the past Jaws posted list, that I should press enter, but nothing happens and the music just keeps repeating.

Please advise.

Hi Lauren

There is also VLC Media Player. Once you’ve installed it, you highlight the DVD drive in “this PC” and get it to open with VLC. I find the menus quite accessible and there are keyboard shortcuts for playing, Pausing, rewinding, fast forwarding, etc. which you can get from google.

Hi,

I have Windows 10 and the latest Jaws 17 update. I have a DVD I want to play on my laptop. When I placed it inside and opened the DVD drive, Jaws says audio.ts and video.ts for the files. Do I need another software and if so which one is good for Jaws users so I can run the DVD?

Sincerely,

It depends.  Sometimes, JAWS recognizes the page as being blank because it has not loaded completely and so convenient OCR won’t recognize it, either.

This *may not be what you’re experiencing, but when I get what JAWS sees as a blank page, Ihave used Quick OCR to find text on the page, then left mouse-clicked on the recognized text, and then JAWS will read the page in the usual way.

Judith,
This also started happening to me about a week ago using the Chrome browser.  I have found if I tab once or twice it will get me back to the web page.  I don't know what is causing this.  I tried rolling back the latest JAWS 17 update, but no change.  I finally gave up and switched back to using IE for my default browser.  I also had my son take a look at the screen on some of these & he does not see anything out of the ordinary.  I have found this problem to be particularly bad with the NY Times and Amazon pages.
I use Win 7 Home Premium, latest JAWS 17, & latest Chrome browser.
Thx,
DD

I can’t access certain web pages with jaws.  I click on a page, get there, make sure I have a PC cursor, refresh the page and look for the article I want.  Jaws tells me “read only”  or there are no headings on the page.  I arrow down and get nothing but the word blank.  Some pages work fine but it seems the ones I really want get the blank reaction.  Is there a solution to this?  JB

Some times what I call busy web pages with many links take a lot of time to load and JAWS says blank till the page is loaded.
One little trick I try is to press the insert plus f10 keys to open the list of open windows.  I then find the internet page I want in the list, enter on it, and more often than not JAWS works correctly.

There is a windows dvd player that comes with one of the windows ten updates; I find that fairly accessible; you might try that.

Hi All,

Below is the direct download link for this newest OB 9 update.  This update was released Monday March 7, 2016, at least that's what was told to me by Freedom Scientific tech support.  This update, OB9.0.1696.403, fixes something from the February update, OB9.0.1695.403.  I couldn't find what this update is supposed to fix from the prior version.

Take care.
