Moodle with JAWS - nice combo?
Holly Guinan
Hi List,
I'm new. I called Freedom Scientific tech support to check, before enrolling my 11th grade braille-using student in online chemistry, if JAWS played nicely with the underlying platform upon which the online course is offered, Moodle. John at FS tech support had never heard of Moodle, and couldn't offer any advice about JAWS ability to interact with it. Has anyone here ever taken a Moodle-based online course using JAWS? Thanks for any opinion. -Holly, a newbie Holly Guinan, TVI

Re: JAWS 14 with MS Office 2013 or 2016?
HAMILTON
From what I am hearing, MS Office 2013 is more accessible than MS Office 2016. It is also possible that users of 2016 will be forced into using the "cloud" for some things. Perhaps, another lister will have a better perspective on this aspect of 2016.
For your reference, I am using MS Office 2013 with JAWS 17.0.1337 on a Windows 8.1 PC. Nothing's perfect; but, I am pretty happy with how things have been going lately, even with IE11.

Re: turning off password screen on windows 10

Your Windows PC, if you’re running Windows 8 or Windows 10, is tied to your Live account. xWhen you login to your system you have to enter the same password
that could open your Hotmail/outlook email account, log you into Skype, and even buy apps from the Windows App Store. Unfortunately, that’s also the only thing preventing access to your PC. If you aren’t too bothered about securing your computer with a password, and are just plain annoyed with having to login in repeatedly, there is a simple way to disable it so that you can just dive right in and start using your PC. Here’s how. Right-click the Start button and select the Run option. Type netplwiz and hit enter. win_10_run This will open the User Accounts window. There are other ways to open this window; you can use the Control Panel as well. The Run dialogue is the quickest way to open it. If you have several different accounts configured, choose the one that you would like to skip the whole login and password option for. Uncheck the ‘Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer’ and click Apply at the bottom. user accounts _ PW Restart your system and you will see you no longer have to enter a password to start using it. Disabling the password has pros and cons of course, so be mindful that you’re taking a layer of security off your system and trading it in for convenience by doing this. I stand corrected I ment to say jaws 16 with Microsoft office 2013 professional. That along with windows 7 pro works great for me.

If you can still get Microsoft office 2013 please make sure that you get the professional version of the program. It works fine for what I use it for and I’m finding more things that I can do that I didn’t think of before. The only thing that I’m not sure about is creating business cards because I have a brother printer and I’m not sure where I would find what I would need in order to make the business cards.

I've been hearing rumblings that 2016 isn't a whole lot worse than 2013, so I may just bite the bullet and make the switch. From: Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS) [mailto:Ted.Lisle@...] 2013 is a dandy—power and usability.

From: James Homuth [mailto:james@...]
So it's becoming high time I give thought to retiring my old instalation of Office 2003. For reasons a-plenty, most of them outlined on this list, I'm holding off on JAWS 16 or 17 for the next little while. So my question would be this. How useable are later versions of Office, either 2013 or 2016, with JAWS? I fully expect just about everything to require a learning curve, but if half of that learning curve isn't telling JAWS not to do something dumb, then I may just go for it anyway. Thoughts and opinions are, of course, always welcome and even encouraged.

Google docs again
Tasha Raella Chemel <tasha.chemel@...>
Hi all,
I have found that keeping the virtual pc cursor off consistently does help with reading Google docs, though the word “blank” proceeds the reading of the cell contents, and navigation is sluggish. The bigger problem is that turning the virtual pc cursor off in that one tab affects all my other tabs where I do want it on; i.e. toggling it back on with insert z twice quickly doesn’t appear to do anything.
Thanks, Tasha

JAWS losing focus in say all mode
Rahul Bajaj
Hi All,
I am using Jaws 16 on a Windows 7 machine. The problem that I am facing is that JAWS often stops speaking in the middle of a sentence even when I press the keystroke to make it work in the say all mode. Further, in Firefox, it repeatedly loses focus and I have to constantly keep pressing alt-tab to bring it back into the window that I am working in. Strangely, this problem doesn't appear in IE. The say all problem, however, isn't limited to Firefox. Any thoughts? Best, Rahul
