Automatically Starting JAWS at log-in

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

No one had any response to my inquiry. I called Freedom Scientific. Contrary to what is implied in the manual, an administrator MUST check the automatically start jaws at log-in for it to work
Thought I'd just pass on the word.

USB Sound Card

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

It seems that at approximately 3:00 CDT every day, the USB card into which I plug in my headset goes silent while I am using JAWS.
I have found that all I have to do is unplug the card, tap the ESCAPE key to see if JAWS is talking, and plug it in again.
Sometimes it will stop again, but if I repeat the process, all is well again.
This probably isn't a JAWS issue, but I'm not really sure.
I'm using a ThinkPad 420 -- brand new.
Anyone have any ideas?

Bob,

It's called the Freedom Import Printer on your list of printers after
pressing Ctrl+P. select it and you will eventually end up in Openbook as it
reads the file and converts to readable text.

sorry, of course...
if you have open book, then use that to scan and read your pdf file.
once opened, if you go to "control and P" and then go to free
printer(think it is)
then proceed to scan
open book should read your pdf file.
at least it has been working for me that way.
sorry for the mix up

That sounds good...only, after I've gone to the download and link and hit open: 1. sometimes it starts to read the manual, but I have no controls like stop/start/read by line, etc. 2. sometimes it doesn't start reading, but I still have no control.Only sometimes can I get back to my start menu, mostly though i have to do a restart. Any help is apreciated...Bob

Thanks David; It sounds like I should explore my yahoo / gmail options more
thoroughly.

Knowing that this list is touchy about tech-support for non-screen reader
specific issues, could you drop me a note off-list if you're willing to help
me trouble shoot more specifically?

Hi All,

I am using Jaws 12 with IE 9. I am needing to create an additional
email address for work-related communications. My intent is to have
this new address forward to my existing gmail account.

I have tried signing up for hotmail and for yahoo; with both I am
running into a brick wall. I can't figure out how to access hotmail's
option features once signed in, and the Yahoo sign in process keeps
giving me errors.

Any recommendation for a free email provider that is easy o setup?
(Again, once activated, I don't plan to check the account on the web,
but I would like to be able to set it up without sighted assistence.)

Thanks much,
Bill

Re: PDF

Dave...

Bob,

It's called the Freedom Import Printer on your list of printers after
pressing Ctrl+P. select it and you will eventually end up in Openbook as it
reads the file and converts to readable text.

OK, How do I scan and read a PDF file once I've downloaded it? I'm using
openbook 8, and didn't find any mention of PDF in the

sorry, of course...
if you have open book, then use that to scan and read your pdf file.
once opened, if you go to "control and P" and then go to free
printer(think it is)
then proceed to scan
open book should read your pdf file.
at least it has been working for me that way.
sorry for the mix up

I always use open book to open a pdf file,
it's how it will work for me.
I have to go to control P to pick and highlight free printer.. or rather
then use open book to scan then you can save it to where ever youlike in
any format
