Re: setting homepage with mazilla

Judith,

Sorry I couldn't respond to your e-mail and I'm glad Brad jumped in here.  I had a 3.25 hour marathon with one of my clients this afternoon and returned home just a short time ago.

Brad,

It appears that the trend toward non-dialog-box but more webpage like settings pages in both Firefox and Chrome is creeping outward both within those browsers and influencing others, too.

Re: setting homepage with mazilla

To change your home page, Press Alt t for the Tools menu, then arrow down to Options.

The options screen is unusual, at least through JAWS. It's not a dialog box. Instead, it appears like a web page. So instead of tabs, you have to choose the page of options you want from a Listbox. At the top of the page, in the first Listbox (which almost seems empty until you turn on forms mode), select General. Then navigate the options as you would a web page, From there you should find the option to set your home page.

Just m.facebook.com
If for some reason that fails,
https://m.facebook.com
should do it.

I think what you are looking for is:

m.facebook.com

You might be more comfortable typing in:

http://m.facebook.com

If you like using enhanced security features, (this is not by any means required), you could type in:

https://m.facebook.com

Re: versions that workwith JAWS 15

Brad Martin

With JAWS 15 and (in my case) Windows 7, I use IE 10 at work and IE 11 at home. I had encountered some problems with IE 11 at work, but it had to do with an Avast add-on, so I should probably go back to IE 11 at work too. If you have Windows Vista (you didn't mention your Operating System), I would think IE 9, which is the latest version that works with Vista and which will continue to be supported for Vista, would be OK too.

At home I use Adobe Reader XI, and at work I have Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Both work fine with JAWS 15. I actually feel like Acrobat Reader DC is a little more stable on my work computer than XI was, but my XI at home works well also.

I have no experience with Magic, sorry.

Re: Hot-Key for battery life left on Laptop

David Moore

Hi,
Caps lock + shift + B tells muy battery life. That command should work fine. I am using JAWS 17. That is strange that it is not working for you. Do you have your JAWS keyboard layout set to Laptop layout? You can have that set even if you have a desktop. Just press enter on options, enter on basics, and tab to the keyboard layout and arrow to the laptop layout. That way, the caps lock will work just like the insert key. The shift + caps lock + B should tell you the battery status.
Have a great one.

Adrian,

No, I wasn't missing that point at all.

There are a lot of people who pay no attention at all to the technical press, and for good reason, so they don't even know that the writing is on the wall with regard to Internet Explorer. I wasn't sure if you might be one of those people, and there are certainly readers here who might not know. All I was trying to do was to spread the word that Internet Explorer really is a dead end now and that something else will rise to take its place with the companies doing screen reading software. I've been praying for Firefox or Chrome to be "the next anointed one(s)."

As Brad Martin has already mentioned, the Firefox Classic Theme Restorer is purely cosmetic in nature.  If you are accessing Firefox with JAWS it is really neither here nor there unless it were to break something with accessibility.  I can't really see what purpose it would serve if you literally can't see it.

Firefox does not, by default, show the Menu Bar on initial installation anymore.  It can, however, be toggled back on by hitting ALT+V, followed by T, followed by M.

Not that it's a perfect security measure, but the whole reason for add-on signing is to increase the security profile of a given add-on.  Firefox Classic Theme Restorer is signed and can be verified by Firefox.

Carolyn Arnold <4carolyna@...>

For medical transcription, get the number from Directory Assistance of American Association for Medical Transcription. Ask them for direction toward getting certification. If you have had some courses or experience, you might be ready for the examination, so they should be able to tell what to do to arrange the examination and a proctor. They have study modules. At least, that used to be the case. I have been out of the field for 18 years, but others on this list may be able to give better guidance toward certification. I was certified for about 20 years. Once certified, it is necessary to take continuing education to maintain certification, and you probably would find that interesting and helpful to you with the work.

the headset covering one ear and one earbud in the other. A

companies I've worked for provided the transcription-specific

[Edited Message Follows]
[Reason: addition that the URL that I posted before was not for YouTube video]

One tiny addition to Mr. Moore's URLs.

The one he gave for convert2mp3 lands you on the German language page.  Click here for their English language page.

If these services work for videos of the length you need to extract the audio from they are probably the easiest way to do it.  The link I posted previously is to a How-To-Geek article that goes step-by-step through the process for VLC for video, but not streamed video such as YouTube.  I know it can do that, too, but it would not be a less complicated process.  I don't know how accessible that webpage will be because it uses a lot of screen shots and I didn't take a look at whether there is alternate text or if the accompanying text is detailed enough.  The author does give each and every dialog you need to go through, and it's quite a few of them.

Compatible with your device
You get a desktop notification while your downloading finished.
0.0.5
I get the time to make the 'play a sound when download finished' feature configurable. And you also can decide whether the default download shelf should
display or not (though I prefer NOT).

Another change is, there will be more than one notification card displayed.

All things now could be configured via options page.

**********
V0.0.4
Here comes three new things:
1. The "Open" button now can be used
2. While one download finished, it would play a sound (not configurable for now)
3. The icon would be visible even if you are using a pure black theme

and one more thing (might be buggy):
- sometimes Chrome thought the file downloaded would be harmful, once this happened, this extension will prompt to ask for your confirmation, and this
will be done on the chrome://downloads page. And, this feature might be buggy, if
you encounter any problem, contact or email me. Thank you.

**********

This extension does two things:

1. Disabled the download shelf. Yes, I personally do not like it. So when I get the change, I just disabled it. You will get a badge while something is
downloading. Sorry no progress bar available for now.

2. Display a desktop notification when your downloading finished, and you could find it by one simple click.

TODO(May be implemented in future, may not):

1. An animated browser action icon which could show the downloading progress

2. A "OPEN" button on the notification card -- depends on whether Google would allow me to do so. [V0.0.4 added]

3. A popup shows all the downloads -- actually it was almost there, if there had not been some annoying bugs.
