It's been awhile, but shouldn't I be able to open a PDF doc. I'm using JAWS 8 with XP and hoping to open a users manual for my new clock radio. I'd like to copy that PDF to MS word...is it possible?

I haven't looked recently, but Open Office was not at all accessible, and
Freedom Scientific has made no claims of this situation changing. There's a

good free word processor, with paid version that contains some additional
features, called Carte that could replace word for many people, but Open
Office is probably not a candidate. It might work with the free screen
reader NVDA.

I'd say that with JAWS 12 now the main facebook site works better than the mobile site because all of the landmarks, navigation keys etc work all the time. It's very consistant and seems to have improved dramatically in the last couple of months but I'm not sure whether that is JAWS 12 or Facebook which has caused the improvements.

Hi more on Facebook usually use the mobile site because of all the clutter
with all the games and stuff most of which blind can't play but I never had
much trouble with navigating the facebook main site. the only thing I have
run into is the buttons to join groups don't seem to work right and you have
to go to the main site for that. if you just want to take part in the
social network part reading your newsfeeds go to http://m.facebook.com note
no www there. also I think there is a facebook client or clients for the
blind. not sure though

JAWS 12 is very good with Facebook now. It now even lets you know when
alerts have popped up etc. They are usually at the bottom of the screen. The
H key to jump to headings is the most useful key. Some of the buttons such
as the account button menu means that when you press it other options then
appear below it. Press the down arrow and it will have hyperlinks underneath
it to select from.

Re: How do you know if your Windows is 64 bit

Nickus de Vos <bigboy529@...>

Another way to check is to click start, go to computer, right click on
computer [applications key], now click properties. It wil open a
system information window, to read this window simply press jaws key
and B, it will read a lot of stuff but eventually come to your windows
version and if its 32 or 64 bit.

On 9/28/11, Curtis Delzer <curtis@calweb.com> wrote:

In the meantime, I needed to use my wife's computer, which has
Microsoft Office 10 loaded on it (I'm still on Office 2003 at
work). I have Jaws 11 loaded on my wife's machine and thought I'd
take advantage of the Office 10-related features of Jaws 12. I
downloaded the 32 bit version of JAWS 12; however, when I went to
install, I was told that the particular version of JAWS was not
designed to run on that computer -- via an error message.
I don't remember ever messing with 64 bit JAWS, but it has been more
than a year since I messed with my wife's computer.
I started thinking it could be that my wife's computer has the 64
bit flavor of Windows 7, but I don't know.
Certainly the JAWS error message could have been more helpful. So,
I thought I'd check to see if it is, indeed, a 64 bit version of
Windows 7; however, I don't know how to do that. Can anyone give me a
pointer?
Assuming it isn't 64 bit (and I really don't think it is), I'm
wondering if anyone else has ever encountered the "Not for use on
this computer" message by the JAWS install program.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Does the open office works well with Jaws? Does it perform the same functions as Microsoft word?
Thanks.

hit windows pause.
read with jfw cursor, and you'll know.
the pause key is the third key to the right of those keys to the right of f12.

,her nurse turn off the computer and turn it back on to see what happen
when she see on the screen ,the nurse noticed on the screen saying jaws
is lock and need to activated it ,so the nurse went to jaws window to get
the serial number then type in the activation box and it's unlock jaws
and activate jaws back on !! So my friend don't have to take the computer

asked my friend did her nurse check the box for jaws to automatic
activate on and she told me she doesn't think so !! Does my friend need
to do anything to check any boxes in jaws window ?

Re: How do you know if your Windows is 64 bit

Kimsan <kimsansong@...>

If you want to find out if you have a 64 bit or 32, click start,
accessories, system tools, system information, route jaws to pc, CTRL home
to go to the top and read down until you get the information or to simplify
the process, just press windows key pause and that will give you the same
info.

Subject: How do you know if your Windows is 64 bit

Had a disaster yesterday with my laptop, and to make a long story short, I
have a new one.
In the meantime, I needed to use my wife's computer, which has Microsoft
Office 10 loaded on it (I'm still on Office 2003 at work). I have Jaws 11
loaded on my wife's machine and thought I'd take advantage of the Office
10-related features of Jaws 12. I downloaded the 32 bit version of JAWS 12;
however, when I went to install, I was told that the particular version of
JAWS was not designed to run on that computer -- via an error message.
I don't remember ever messing with 64 bit JAWS, but it has been more than a
year since I messed with my wife's computer.
I started thinking it could be that my wife's computer has the 64 bit flavor
of Windows 7, but I don't know.
Certainly the JAWS error message could have been more helpful. So, I
thought I'd check to see if it is, indeed, a 64 bit version of Windows 7;
however, I don't know how to do that. Can anyone give me a pointer?
Assuming it isn't 64 bit (and I really don't think it is), I'm wondering if
anyone else has ever encountered the "Not for use on this computer" message
by the JAWS install program.
Thanks in advance.

Re: How do you know if your Windows is 64 bit

chris hallsworth <christopherh40@...>

It is definitely 64 bit you are using as the error message means that you cannot install the 32 bit version of JAWS on a 64 bit operating system. So please download and install the 64 bit version of JAWS, and you should find it runs and installs successfully.

Re: Jaws 11 and MS Office 2007 Pro

Dave...

You're learning about the ribbon, I presume? Go to the FS web site and there
is some training material on how to navigate in the ribbon.

With JAWS 12 FS then introduced the "Virtual Ribbon" that gives a more
standard menu structure to the ribbon.

There's definitely a learning curve in first trying to work with Office 2007
and the ribbon.

Heya folks,

I just purchased MS Office 2007 Pro and am running Jaws 11 and I assumed all
would be fine hence why I only updated to 2007 and not the latest MS Office
2010 but I was wrong Jaws 11 is terrible trying to get around the Outlook
interface for example, tabbing around can be slow and if I go to customize
under tools, tabbing thru the options there is torture you press tab and
like 45 seconds later it moves to that option and then just kind of freezes.
I ended up going back to MS Office 2002.

If anyone else on the liss had the same problem or is running 2007 fine with
Jaws 11 please let me know, maybe I am missing something.

regards,

Jim

Re: Jaws activate Jaws 7

Angel

Wouldn't any message such as this be spoken? Or wouldn't Jaws be put in demo mode prior to any activation. I believed when Jaws was invoked it would speak whatever the circumstances. If not, how could we blind repair whatever problems we encountered. I never heard of Jaws being locked and not speaking.

Hello Dave and all,
Here is the update on my friend computer ,when she was getting ready to take the computer tower back to the shop ,her sighter person is a nurse ,her nurse turn off the computer and turn it back on to see what happen when she see on the screen ,the nurse noticed on the screen saying jaws is lock and need to activated it ,so the nurse went to jaws window to get the serial number then type in the activation box and it's unlock jaws and activate jaws back on !! So my friend don't have to take the computer tower back to the shop again ,since her nurse solved the problem . I asked my friend did her nurse check the box for jaws to automatic activate on and she told me she doesn't think so !! Does my friend need to do anything to check any boxes in jaws window ?

As far as I know, it only works with English versions of Windows.

Hi all, sorry to bother,
I had someone that was doing the portuguese and german
translations but they seem to have dropped off the radar.
Is there any takers for translating the message files for Blind Tunes?
You don't need to be an expert in scripting and I do provide
instructions.
Thank you all so much. The language pack should include about 9 other
languages. And Blind Tunes is seeing record activity on the site from
all around the world.
You could earn your place in the special thanks section too!
So far in process and done are:
Dutch, English of course, Finnish, French, Hebrew, Italian, Swedish, and
Spanish.
But I need German and Portuguese.
You can email me at Support@blindTunes.net
Thanks for your attention!
