I would have to do that. I don't recall having to have a password at all.

Ryan,

Are you positive you haven't forgotten your password? When I created my account here recently the system warned me that I should not use a password that it was essential remain hidden since the recovery process will send it in plain text. I know how "on auto pilot" I am as far as passwords go, and if you did this a while back you might have selected something other than one of "your regular" passwords.

In any case, if speed is of the essence then your best bet is probably going to be to go through the forgotten password process.

Re: Jaws speech and Zoomtext magnification?

Michael Mote

It does work Ok.  I have worked with several folks who use that combo as well.  From time to time, we do encounter issues with the mirror display drivers, because both programs are fighting for control, as Ron referenced in his post.  Most of the time, they will play nice though.  The only major problems that I have encountered were with Zoomtext and Internet Explorer versions 9 and 10.  I think that has been resolved now though.

I am running Zoomtext 10.1 and JAWS 16 and I have not had any problems as of yet.  If you have the opportunity to do this, install JAWS first and uninstall it last.  There can always be an argument of which one keeps control of the vidio card.  You should not have any troubles with running Zoomtext without speech and having JAWS to speak for you.

Hi – I’m wondering if anyone is using Jaws speech with Zoomtext magnification. I did use this combo for years, but then abandoned Zoomtext in favor of Magic when it seemed almost impossible to get Zoomtext and Jaws to work together. This was at least 4-5 years ago that I made the switch. Now I’m having some problems with Magic and other products, like J-Say and Matlab (latter with Magic v. 13, so had to roll back to v. 12). Before I start a trial of Zoomtext, I would like to hear about any experiences out there with this combo. I always preferred the Zoomtext product for magnification.

Hi Tom,

I am going on a hunch here but are you sure that you are not hearing Blank line instead of Catelyn? This is one annoying feature that I come across often with my clients and the remedy has already been discussed in this forum.

Hello, everyone.

This is going to be a weird-sounding question, but here goes.

I am working with a Microsoft Word document that I created, and every time I start reading the document, and even at certain points within the document, Jaws speaks the word Catelyn.  I may be spelling the word incorrectly, but this is very annoying.

I can’t figure out if something in the document itself is triggering Jaws to say Catelyn, or if something has changed in my MS Word configurations to make this happen.

If anyone else has seen this issue, how did you correct it?

I’m using Jaws 16 with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 on this particular computer.

Re: if i unsubscribe from the list will this delete my membership?

James Homuth

This isn't appropriately explained by the groups.io folks, and I'll be passing that on to them fairly shortly. If you haven't created an account when you subscribed to the group, for instance if you subscribe to the group by email, you don't actually have a password set on your account. So when you try to log into the website, it dumps you to the password reset screen because, as it should be, you're not able to log in to an account with no password. So at that point, it gives you the opportunity to let it generate one for you--that will, as it happens, at least get you into the system. Hopefully that clears things up slightly.

Rather than ask that question, just cut to the chase and let it send you a
password to use. Then you can change it back to the one you want. Important
point here is to get into the site to change your preferences -- worry about
the details later.

HI ALL, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Among some of the more bothersome differences between JAWS 16 and JAWS 17
is the following irony:

Although I have set "SaySysTray", in JAWS 17 - as I had it set in JAWS
16, to: "ins/JAWSKey+F11", this command will not work. It just "sits
there"!

Farther down the JAWS 17 list of JAWS Keyboard commands is:
"ViewSysTrayItems", and this is set to: "control+shift+F11". However,
this simply displays a list of what's on the SysTray; but, you cannot
take any action on the listed SysTray items. Whereas, with the
"SaySysTray" command, you could "do something" with the items on the
SysTray, e.g. open the "context menu" to "safely remove hardware", access
network settings, etc.

Suggestions, as to how to get this function to work, will be gratefully
welcomed. Thank you.

Jim H

P.S.: When I can as clearly identify/describe other "bothersome" JAWS
17 issues, "I'll be back"!

Hi Ryan,

After you type in your email address, tab 1 time & enter your password.  If you don't remember your password, there's a link you can click on & your password will be emailed to you.

If you have entered your email & password tab to the Log-in button & press the spacebar or enter to get logged in, & then you can find your subscription options to change them.
Take care.

Re: Question about the Groups.io forum

Carolyn,

This isn't an e-mail issue, I'm talking about the actual presentation of these messages on the groups.io website.  While I get the digests several times a day I've never participated in the group via e-mail, but via the website.

Since this issue is utterly unconnected to JAWS or Freedom Scientific, I'll save my cage rattling with them for when it's needed, and it has been needed in the past!!

jaws+f11 gives a dialog with the tray items in a list, along with
buttons that allow a left single click, left double click or right single click. win+t actually puts focus in the tray area and you have to use regular jaws keys to do clicks.

And jaws 17 did not change what occurs for me in any appreciable way.

I looked at my key bindings and see that Say System Tray is not bound.

Found the solution to my own question, and have applied a dope slap to my forehead for having missed this for so long.

On both the thread view of the messages and an individual message thread itself there is a link at the upper right side of the screen just above the first item displayed that reads "Date" and that has a tiny up arrow or down arrow next to that word depending on how you toggle it.

As it turns out, the main view of the message threads as a group was set by default to display in reverse chronological/newest first order. The view of the messages in a single thread was set by default to display in chronological order. Simply clicking on that Date link to flip it to reverse chronological within a message thread gives me the messages from newest to oldest.

This forum is much easier to read when that's the case!
