Re: one-handed keyboard?

Lee Maschmeyer

Hi Ann,

I don't use a one-handed keyboard but I do use the two-handed Dvorak keyboard layout in Control Panel. There are Dvorak layouts for one-handed use in control panel though, one for each hand. Unfortunately Jaws does not automatically switch Jaws-specific keys (like Ins+T for the title or Ins+Q for the loaded keyboard set) to the keyboard layout in use but there's a file called keycodes.ini in the Jaws shared scripts directory. Copy that to your personal scripts folder and modify the scan codes to correspond with the new locations. It's a bit tedious but requires only a normal text editor so it's no big deal.

HTH,

Opposite of my problem. JAWS 17 stopped me from getting into settings. Now I can't do it with either version of JAWS.

No cigar. I went through the process again just now. The only detail I can add is that JAWS verbalizes "no links" shortly after I press enter. I do wait, and I confirm that the virtual cursor is active. Also, I earlier had the same idea of trying JAWS 16, but I got the same results.

Hi,
I just tried to open settings in Chrome and it worked fine. I have an idea.
When you press enter on settings, wait for a few seconds for the page to
load and press insert + Z to see if your virtual curser is on or off. You
need it on. Also, if you have another version of JAWS like 16 try that
instead of using the current version. Take care and let me know how this
goes.

Re: Copying tables from websites to excel

Ann Marie Medlar <amedlar1@...>

I don't know key strokes for Excel 2013. But in old excel alt+d I believe
there is a delimited function. If between column data info is a space then
you can use delimiting function to separate into separate columns.
From an old email message.
Alt+d arrow down to text to columns and enter.
Wizzard appears, I checkd delimited, next,
checked space as delimiter, next
After looking at report only 1 line changed.
So I typed
control+g and enter type a6:a499 to select cells and enter
repeated above process and all data from a6:A499 are now in separate
columns.

For example, if the website table is a 10 row by 10 column, the pasted

Hi ALL:

First, I hope that I have sent this to the correct e-mail address.
Confirmation of this would be appreciated.

Second, when cleaning out older versions of JAWS, it has been recommended
that we perform a "repair" on JAWS 16. Is the below "instruction"
correct regarding syntax and spelling? I know how exact "run-line
commands" have to be to get them right!

C:\J16.0.4463ENU-64bit.exe /type repair

It seems to me that there should be no "space" between ".exe" and "/",
and it did not look right to me; but, I, admitedly, am no techie - at
least not anymore.

When using DOS, I was the "go-to-Guy" when other people started getting
their own PCs at work. I got my "talking computer" about 7 years before
everyone else; so, I had a lot of experience before they did. Their
admiration was wonderful! But now, with Windows and without all the tech
support I used to get when I was working, I am next to the bottom on how
to do stuff that I used to find "easy-peasy" with DOS. Very frustrating!

Oh well, we do the best we can, with what we've got!

Thanks.

Jim,

I'm copying below the instructions I received from FS's Grant Downey, one of their reliable tech support people. I may have tidied them up a little, but I've used them more than once and they work. The line you're looking for is included.

To run a JAWS 16 repair,
First download JAWS 16 to your computer. Go to:
http://www2.freedomscientific.com/downloads/JAWS/JAWS-whats-new.asp
Look for and download:
* JAWS 16.0.1925 64-bit English - January 2015 (133 MB)
Choose the 64 bit version. Save this to your computer. Do not run from current location. After the file is saved:
To run a JAWS 16 repair.
1. Copy the appropriate version to your C: drive
To run a JAWS 16 repair, go to the run dialog and type:
C:\J16.0.1925ENU-64bit.exe /type repair
And press enter.
The repair will run. After the repair has completed, reboot your computer.

Jaws 16 and Firefox 41.0.2

I'd made some suggested changes to the firefox configuration a while
back that worked till recently.
Now I can't tell what tab I'm selecting from the toolbar.
Jaws just says...
Tool bar
Tab selected
1 of 5
Tool bar
Tab selected
2 of 5
Tool bar
Tab selected
3 of 5
Tool bar
Tab selected
4 of 5
Tool bar
Tab selected
5 of 5

There are also several unlabeled buttons.
Button

I followed steps to restore Firefox now Jaws has trouble reading other
things such as lists in the download, history, favorites, and tags library.

At least I have a backup of the prefs.js file. And, hopefully Still can
find the instructions how to make Firefox more Jaws friendly.

Hmm, against my better judgment I installed it at work, and it seems to take forever to process really large books. (And I have a heck of a computer at work by the way.) Something's definitely up, because initially all it will say is "blank blank blank." It never tells me it's processing anything, and about the only way I've found to make it read the document at all is to press Control A to select all. Then it kind of wakes up from its coma, figures out who it is, and then I can navigate OK. Otherwise, I didn't really find much difference for what I do.

Re: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

Hi all,
I installed Reader DC and I love it. It processes the pages more quickly, and it seems to be more accessible than XI. I encourage all to download and install. David Moore (win10 list moderator)

Thanks, James. If they keep nagging me I'll probably upgrade at some point.

Looks to be a new name for the same old.

I'm being notified daily that Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is available for me to
download. I currently have Adobe Reader XI (11). Adobe Reader is critical to
my work, so before I risk wrecking something that works fine for something
that doesn't work at all, is there anything I should know about Acrobat
Reader DC that makes it different from Adobe Reader, or is it just a new
name for the same old product? If it makes a difference, I'm using JAWS 15
on Windows 7 64-bit at home and at the office.

Thanks,
Brad
