Exactly you set it right but jaws went of the rails, worst of all is
when jaws goes off shouting File edit view plus the time and wants to read
everything in sight., that can be due to White text on a black background,
Jaws interprets it as selected or highlighted text it mmisunderstands what
it sees regards dorothy

Indeed, try hitting insert+s. this is the screen echo setting. You want
it
to say "highlighted." My hunch is that you have accidentally set it to
"all."

Tom, I have no experience with PowerPoint, but can't you copy the RTF text,
whether directly or after going into virtual window mode with JAWS
key-alt-w? Then you could eliminate the "heading" verbalization.

As for finding Jamal's Text Pal, there's always google.

Hi, Kirsten.

I tried the RTF option yesterday, and, although the text was there and in
the correct order as you suggest, Jaws kept reading heading information at
the beginning of just about every line, which made reading and understanding
the text very difficult.

If you open the powerpoint and then go to the save dialog box, tab to the
type/format box and arrow down you should be able to save it as an RTF doc
which will give you all the text from all the slides in the right order.
Before I discovered this I used to have to copy and paste the text out of
the slides, but this is much quicker. I use 2007 so if that is what you
have
it definitely works.

Can someone tell me the easiest way to extract and save the text from the

As best as I can tell, the presentation is done in Office 2007 powerpoint

Question on installing newer versions of Jaws and the Real Speak voices

Cristóbal

Hello list,

I’ve noticed that whenever I install a new version of Jaws, the Real Speak
voices I had installed on the earlier version of JFW don’t’ show up in the
newer version. I don’t mean the periodical updates FS puts out, but rather
the 11 to 12 and now 12 to 13. I know now that the version 13 beta doesn’t
have the merge utility, but even when upgrading in the past, Real Speak
still wolnd’t show up. I’ve got a few self-created voice profiles in
different languages and whatnot for proof reading documents with the Real
Speak voices.

I have the .exe files on my hard drive, but I was just wondering if others
experience this as well or if it was just something that I may have been
doing wrong on my end. I don’t even know if it’s a bug per say, but rather
one of those things.

Hi Gary:

I found what the problem is....
In Office XP and Jaws 13 those reading options are not available.
I installed Jaws 13 on my Laptop running Windows 7 and Office 2010 and they appear just as you said.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that I have Windows XP and Office XP on my desk top computer.

Thanks again.

Tracy,
Did you have your spreadsheet open when you pressed Insert v? You should hear JFW speak Quick Settings Excel. Typing title reading into the search box gave me 6 choices, with title reading at the top. I also tried typing just the word title into the box, and it gave me more choices, which included title reading.

If you have done all of the steps as outlined, I don't know what the problem could be.

Tracy,
Adding a little more information about settings title reading in Excel with JAWS 13, once you are in Quick Settings with Insert plus v, type title reading into the search box and arrow down to the first result. Press Enter on title reading, and this will take you to that section of the treeview. The settings should then be the same as they were in JFW 12.

Tracy,
Adding a little more information about settings title reading in Excel
with JAWS 13, once you are in Quick Settings with Insert plus v, type
title reading into the search box and arrow down to the first result.
Press Enter on title reading, and this will take you to that section of
the treeview. The settings should then be the same as they were in JFW
12.

Tracy,
You should still be able to use the same key combination and set up the
reading of titles in Quick Settings just like you did in the Verbosity
Menu of JAWS 12.

Re: Deleting Temporary Place Markers

You're right. You can only create one temporary place marker on a web page. I discovered that pressing Control-K on a new location deletes the old temporary marker and places one at the new location. The other place markers on the page must have been permanent place markers which I was able to display in the list box with the Control-Shift-K command and then remove them.

I thought you could do only one temporary place marker. So, JAWS should forget about all temporary place markers except for the last one. Besides, these are saved in JAWS only and do not affect the Webpage.
I don't believe there is any way to delete a temporary place marker. When you want a different one, just create it with control plus K. The old (most recent) place marker should be deleted automatically.
Permanent place markers, of course, are a different matter, and they can be deleted through the control plus shift plus K dialog.
