For the record, I've found Amazon to be extremely responsive when I and others raise accessibility issues. One of my calls a few years ago led to website changes the very next day. Generally, soon after I've read complaints on this list, those problems have been fixed.

I just signed into my Amazon.com account using my email address and password

to track an order that has been shipped, and did not encounter any image
captcha. But when I originally placed this order on Tuesday, I noticed that

there were no longer a series of radio buttons on the shipping options page
to choose the desired shipping method, which, of course, would be free
shipping, which is not usually checked by default. Even though there was no

obvious means of selecting one of the four listed shipping options, I hit
Enter on the first option anyway, free shipping, and this apparently worked,

because free shipping is what I got. But it is also possible that this
option was already selected by default. Amazon is constantly tinkering with

its web site, much to the detriment of us blind consumers. But it is almost

impossible to challenge them because Jeff Bezos, recently ranked as the

Hello, all:

For the first time, I am really miffed at Amazon. Has anyone visited
recently? They have a new sign-in feature, which, of COURSE, involves
captias with no audio equivalent! They give you a link for "having
trouble or sight-impaired," but the only thing there is options for
contacting them, which I did, with an "assertive-gram", which, if
you're experiencing this issue, you might want to follow up on with
one of your own so they will listen to us, hopefully. I stated the
situation is unacceptable, since many of us are Christmas shopping
now, and requested that they immediately remedy things. If anyone has
managed to get around the captia and still do check-out, please do
email the list and let us know how you did it! Thanks!

Re: Dectalk Express, pitch higher in JAWS 17

Dennis Clark <dennis@...>

Hi Adrian,
Seems weird, but perhaps Jaws is sending a command string to the DEC talk when Jaws loads. I'm posting a link below which will take you to a page which discusses, demonstrates and has some documentation for a current text to speech chip which is sort of the current DEC talk. There is a DEC talk manual on the page which should give command strings for the chip which may still be valid for your DEC talk. The link is:

http://www.grandideastudio.com/portfolio/emic-2-text-to-speech-module/

I will keep pondering this one, and let you know if I think of anything.
best,
Dennis

This is obscure for most JAWS users, but does anyone have any ideas?

This is really strange. Turning off smart navigation shouldn't make a page

If I turn smart navigation off, JAWS can't read the web page at all.

If I turn it to controls it reads the word "cell" If I have it on control
and table I can arrow through but it keeps reading the name of the row as I
cross each cell which I don't' wish it to do.

According to Eric Damery on Main Menu, that has been taken out. That may be
for the next update though. Do you have smart navigation turned on? If so,
see if turning that off helps.

I just upgraded to JAWS 17 and am having issues with how JAWS handles tables
in internet explorer.

I have two websites which are made up of tables, one is for our email and
JAWS used to put the name of the sender, the subject , the date etc on
separate lines so I could read it easily and click on the button to open it.
Now JFW 17 puts it all on one line and says "cell" "cell" which is pretty
annoying. Any hints for this?
Thanks!

Thanks!

I haven't noticed this problem but I've noticed a different problem where they've given us a link but the problem is that from what I've experienced is while typing what I want to search for, I'm given results for things that I didn't searth for as an example, if I type an authors name like Gary Keesee I would probably get only 2 book titles but when I want to find out if this book is in other formats I'm given little to no information of whether Fixing the money thing is abialable as an audio book or whether it is an e book Has anyone had a problem semular to what I've tried to describe? Subject: Another Facebook and JAWS question

Hi there,

Let's see if I can explain my question so that it makes sense.

In addition to my personal facebook account, I have a public facebook
Page for my music band. Pages are a little different from the
personal accounts.

On this page, it says that I have 173 "likes." I'd like to know how I
can find out who has "liked" our page so far. There used to be a way
a while back, and although it was a bit challenging to get to, I found
a way.
However, I can no longer remember what that was and would like to know
if anyone on this list can help me.

I'm using the JAWS 16 or 17 versions (depending on the computer) with
Facebook and am happy to use either the mobile or the full version.

Thanks again for any help!

Jim

Actually, Jim, I gave the correct instruction from memory. Convenient OCR has extended the options to include d for document. I used it today on a whole PDF file.

HI:

Press JAWS Key+spacebar, and then press "w" to "OCR" a "window", or "s" to
OCR the "screen". You will then be using the JAWS cursor to navigate.

Once you determine that the information in the document is worth saving,
press the PC Key, to get back to the PC cursor; then press control+a, to
select all. You can then copy what you've selected and paste it into a
blank Word documentm which you can save/print/etc.

If this does not work, the suggestion, re:

http://www.convertfiles.com/

should do the trick.

Have fun.

Greg,

Look into convenient OCR. If I recall the keystrokes correctly, while focus
is on the document, press JAWS key+spacebar, then o, then d for document.
This works best, and perhaps only, in JAWS 16. Check the "What's new" file
in JAWS 16 help.

that the document is there but not OCR formatted because can import into

Open book only allows me to select one page at a time and it doesn't keep
the same format as the pdf.

Any tips how to take non OCR pdf docs and get them into a word doc. in as
few steps as possible?

Thanks.

Greg

Re: A tutorial on Google Chrome.

Hi Bob and all,
Thank you very much. I am just getting used to doing tutorials, so I appreciate the compliment. I hope it helps a lot of people. I tried to do just an introduction, first, then if there are more questions on the list, I will do another one. Take care and have a great one.

Hi all,
Here is the tutorial on Google Chrome Browser that I have promised you. It
is a Audio MP3 file that will play on about anything. I go over how to
save files, and use Surfs Up to demonstrate everything you need to know
about using different combo boxes and all you need to know when using a
browser. I hope you enjoy it. It is an hour long. The link below is a drop
box link. I fixed my drop box, so this link should work fine. Enter on the
link and a page will open up. Go to almost to the bottom of the page and
enter on the download link. You can save it to your computer. I hope you
can get even more out of Google Chrome. Here is the link below.

Re: speaking "cell" in internet explorer tables

Barbara Corner <bcorner@...>

If I turn smart navigation off, JAWS can't read the web page at all.

If I turn it to controls it reads the word "cell" If I have it on control
and table I can arrow through but it keeps reading the name of the row as I
cross each cell which I don't' wish it to do.

According to Eric Damery on Main Menu, that has been taken out. That may be
for the next update though. Do you have smart navigation turned on? If so,
see if turning that off helps.

Subject: speaking "cell" in internet explorer tables

I just upgraded to JAWS 17 and am having issues with how JAWS handles tables
in internet explorer.

I have two websites which are made up of tables, one is for our email and
JAWS used to put the name of the sender, the subject , the date etc on
separate lines so I could read it easily and click on the button to open it.
Now JFW 17 puts it all on one line and says "cell" "cell" which is pretty
annoying. Any hints for this?
Thanks!

Hello, all:

For the first time, I am really miffed at Amazon. Has anyone visited recently? They have a new sign-in feature, which, of COURSE, involves captias with no audio equivalent! They give you a link for “having trouble or sight-impaired,” but the only thing there is options for contacting them, which I did, with an “assertive-gram”, which, if you’re experiencing this issue, you might want to follow up on with one of your own so they will listen to us, hopefully. I stated the situation is unacceptable, since many of us are Christmas shopping now, and requested that they immediately remedy things. If anyone has managed to get around the captia and still do check-out, please do email the list and let us know how you did it! Thanks!

What is being talked about is that when you are playing a file on the NLS
Player, it must reside in a folder called audio+podcasts if there are any
other talking books on the flash drive. In addition, there should not be any
other files in this audio+podcasts folder besides mp3 files.

Because the tutorial is an MP3 file, you must save it in the Audio+Podcasts
folder on your flash drive, just like any other MP3 file. If your flash
drive does not already have a folder labled Audio+Podcasts, you need to
create one.

Jim

If you check the archives, this exact question was asked and
answered, and you can do it in JAWS itself. I'll check to see if
I saved the post.
I followed the directions and replaced the useless PrintScreen key
with an applications key.
It was pretty easy.
