Re: Important: Disabling Application Mode in Jaws 10?

I have noticed the same problem on a particular web site and it reads it as "applications Menu" in JAWS 12 latest version. This occurs where there is a menu box with a dropdown menu and an item has to be selected. once in a while I can get beyond this point by closing the menu box and selecting but I don't always remember what I did to do it.

Hi Adrian and Mike,

Well, unfortunately, Mike, your method didn't work for me... yes, applications mode would, in fact, go off, but keeps coming back on the next time I try to move my cursor or enter a key command. Thanks so much for trying, though! I really appreciate it. *smile*

Adrian, I sadly must agree with you regarding inconsistent methods here... I've tried everything, but to no real avail. I appreciate knowing that 11 seems to illiminate this issue, at least for you... very good to know.

I apppreciate hearing about your experiences... they mirror mine, at least as far as Jaws 10 goes. Anyway, thanks so much!

Warmest,
Kim

Kim and Mike,

I hope this method works on these websites. When I used JAWS 10, I found
solutions inconsistent. On Yahoo Finance, for example, I had to locate the
toggle link for applications mode to turn it off.

For me, the problem was completely eliminated in JAWS 11. I can't speak for
all webpages, but I've never encountered applications mode after JAWS 10.

Bob,

I solved that by using the CardFile view. Then all you do is type the first
few letters and that section comes up.

Lack of first-letter navigation is very likely not a JAWS issue. Take for
example the add/remove programs list in XP. It has never been first-letter
navigation.

Now I understand that in Windows 7 it is. And FS had nothing to do with
that -- it is all Microsoft.

Just to let you all know, Excel 2007 now works with JAWS 13. And that was my
biggest complaint.

They did take my favorite keystrokes for reading top 4 and leftmost 4 cells
and give them over to the new Insert+Shift, T table navigation set with a
completely unimaginative set of Alt+1 through 8 keys, so I added my own
keystrokes to these and fixed that problem.

So far JAWS 13 is behaving no worse than JAWS 12 in general situations
overall, and perhaps more responsive.

Again bear in mind that I'm still using XP Pro and the Office 2007 suite.

The Convenient OCR feature is pretty good, although I haven't tried too many
examples of it.

Of course ResearchIt is broken for some of the sites, but that's not a JAWS
issue.

Note that I copied over my JAWS 12 Place Markers, Personalized Settings, and
JAWS dictionary files. I *did not* use the merge feature.

And I definitely modified the OCR voice to something less drastic.

Pretty good so far, right out of the box.

I think my theory of odd-numbered versions of JAWS being the best is holding
up.

For stock quotes and a lot more information than you could get with Research
It, there are two leading websites:

1. Yahoo finance. The second or third press of f (the pages load
inconsistently) takes you to the quote search field:
http://finance.yahoo.com/

2. Google Finance. One press of f takes you to the quotes search field:

George,

You do not know what is the issue? You're being rhetorical, I expect.

It's basically that once people have a simple way to do something, there are
those who will stamp their foot and pout, rather than do something just a
bit more complex.

To each their own. I'm trying to find a more complex way to bring up stock
prices, since that also broke in ResearchIt (but doesn't get nearly as much
attention).

I do not know what the issue is in sted of using research it just go to
www.si.com this is the sports illustrated page and it is very accessable
there are links you first come to which are nfl cfb mlb and others now if
you click on cfb yes this is for ncaa football you get a page with the
current weeks football scores and they are continuselly updated. You can do
the same for any sport that s I covers.
There you go and you do not have to keep the issue of not being able to get
ncaa scores

no it doesn't. It won't be fixed until FS find another reliable
source of the scores and adapts ResearchIt to work with it.

In the meantime, you'll have to just look on the Web, or listen to
your local sports radio station or broadcast, turn on ESPN, whatever.

Regarding activations, does a single-license Jaws user like myself have a

I am getting a couple of new computers set up for both office and home,

I have Jaws 12, but a few earlier versions of Jaws that I could probably

For stock quotes and a lot more information than you could get with Research
It, there are two leading websites:

1. Yahoo finance. The second or third press of f (the pages load
inconsistently) takes you to the quote search field:
http://finance.yahoo.com/

2. Google Finance. One press of f takes you to the quotes search field:
http://www.google.com/finance

It's basically that once people have a simple way to do something, there are

no it doesn't. It won't be fixed until FS find another reliable
source of the scores and adapts ResearchIt to work with it.

In the meantime, you'll have to just look on the Web, or listen to

I think my theory of odd-numbered versions of JAWS being the best is holding
up.

yes, if you listen to the jaws 13 podcast on what is new. eric
tells you
why you can not get research it to get scores. it is because e
s p n whom
they use for their reasearch information for scors changed their
web site
format with major changes in june and the app. can not gather scores
properly now from that site.

The one thing that I have found that I wish they had fixed is the first
letter search in Outlook 2007 contacts.

I think my theory of odd-numbered versions of JAWS being the best is holding
up.

Re: Jaws13.0 beta

Dorothy <dorothy.ingram-gorban@...>

But dave jaws 13 is not being sold yet I thought the important thing was to
get that fixed with jaws 12, so that users would not be obliged to buy
jaws13,to get a fix. I am told the uk list has fallen silent for some days I
suspect they think well,we willbe forced to upgrade regardless, is that a
victory? I mean it would have been just to dreadful if the only item
attended to is that whatsit thing where you get baseball results and which
no one in Uk cares about anyway regards dorothy

Re: NCAA football and research it not working

Chris Smart <csmart8@...>

no it doesn't. It won't be fixed until FS find another reliable source of the scores and adapts ResearchIt to work with it.

In the meantime, you'll have to just look on the Web, or listen to your local sports radio station or broadcast, turn on ESPN, whatever.
