Re: JAWS 16 with emulation program, TN3270

Bissett, Tom <tom.bissett@...>

Hi, I am not sure which emulator this is. If it is the PCom 3270 from IBM then yes I am running it on a win 7 64 bit machine. There are settings that need to be set in order for jaws to work. You need to set the cursor to underline and blinking otherwise jaws can't track it. I don't remember whether there are other settings to be changed.
Because emulators are one window displays scripting is often required to get the emulator to behave comfortably. Over the years I have seen a variety of scripts but none met my need or likes so I did create scripts to accommodate the way I use and navigate the emulator window.

All,

I'm surveying JAWS users that use the emulation program, T3270. We will be running in 64-bit Windows 7/Office 2010.
Did this program work with your JAWS users? Did you have to write scripts in order for it to work properly?

Currently we have to use 32-bit Attachmate EXTRA and 32-bit PC's for our users that use JAWS 15.

JAWS and Youtube

Annabelle Susan Morison

Hi, it's Annabelle.
I wonder if any of you fellow JAWS members would know how to fix this. When
I try to post a comment to a video on Youtube, there is no edit field. I
remember when Youtube used to be screenreader accessible all over the site,
no matter if you had Internet Explorer or Firefox as the browser. When I
click on "Add a Public Comment", that's where there are no edit fields. Only
when I click on the Reply button of a random comment is there an edit field.
Why does Google insist on messing with us members who have to rely on a
screenreader for accessibilitty?

Feliciano G

When you experienced this problem next time, Chris down the jaws key plus windows key and press f4 to reboot jaws and send the report to Freedom Scientific. It's doing this resolves the issue, you may want to uninstall and reinstall jaws or repair it as you may have a corrupt install.

Hi folks! I've been dealing with this issue for quite a while now, and
cannot seem to get any relief. I'm having trouble with JAWS and Outlook
2013, particularly after I have been using it for a couple of hours. JAWS
will start to perform very sluggishly, and even sometimes, I get a message
saying that Outlook is not responding. It's really annoying. Most of the
time, I end up restarting my machine. Does anyone else have this problem?
How have you addressed it?

I have the problem to some extent. JAWS might be working, but I get no
clues with navigation. I run Spell Check; sometimes that helps. I start
to unload JAWS, then hit cancel; sometimes that helps. I am optimistic
that 17 will remedy that sluggish behavior.

Do you know how to disable Protected Mode? I have some instructions, but
beyond getting to Trust Center, I am not getting to any of the Protected
items to disable.

Bye for now,

Carolyn

You are on the right track. In Adobe Reader, go to the Edit menu and scroll all the way down to the Accessibility submenu and select Set-up Assistant.
On page 5 of 5, the last page, of the Set-up Assistant is a check box labeled "DisplayPDF documents in the web browser" which should be unchecked so that the web page is processed directly by Adobe Reader outside of the browser and not by the browser's PDF reader add-on, which does not always work, especially in Windows 7 and later. .

So just now I went to Google. The following link takes you to an Adobe webpage that provides instructions. Basically, they say you need to go to your browser and make the change there. Sorry I can't give you a simple answer, but I hope this page is helpful and that opening PDF files in Adobe solves the problem:

I periodically have problems reading PDFs. I receive message that says it needs to search IE for a fix. . and then it comes back saying that a resolution could not be found. I know at one time I had to update the file associations so that it used Adobe to access PDFs. That still seems to be in place. Does anyone have this same problem or know of a resolution?

I know when the title bar states the document is empty I have to open it using the Freedom Import Printer in OPenBook . So, this is a different problem.

While you are in the message, press the delete key.
You can probably use the delete key from tree view when the message you want to delete is highlighted.

JAWS 16 and IE 11

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

We're about to migrate to 11 here at DMS, anything I should know? I've been having serious stability problems with our Silverlight interface, and I'm hoping this might help. I've seen upgrades work before on similar problems.

That goes for me too. I wasn't even aware of that submenu. Last time I made that change, it was under Internet Options.

Thanks. I'm glad you knew. In case Julie is still reading this thread, you get to the edit menu by pressing alt-e when Adobe is in focus.

You are on the right track. In Adobe Reader, go to the Edit menu and scroll all the way down to the Accessibility submenu and select Set-up Assistant.
On page 5 of 5, the last page, of the Set-up Assistant is a check box labeled "DisplayPDF documents in the web browser" which should be unchecked so that the web page is processed directly by Adobe Reader outside of the browser and not by the browser's PDF reader add-on, which does not always work, especially in Windows 7 and later. .

I was afraid you'd ask! I think it used to be simple, but I couldn't find the relevant setting in Adobe. If it's anywhere, it's in preferences, which you can reach quickly by pressing control-k.

So just now I went to Google. The following link takes you to an Adobe webpage that provides instructions. Basically, they say you need to go to your browser and make the change there. Sorry I can't give you a simple answer, but I hope this page is helpful and that opening PDF files in Adobe solves the problem:

Are you opening these PDF files in IE or Adobe? If in IE, you might switch to open in Adobe only.

Thanks for any help.
