New Word Document In Columns

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi All,

An acquaintance is trying to do the following running Windows 7, J16, & Word
2010:

I would like to set a blank document page up to be written in columns. I
want to just be able to start typing at the top, have the information
confined to the first column, and when I hit the bottom of that column, have
the cursor automatically jump to the top of the second column and continue
as though I hadn't ever finished the page. Does that make sense?

Does anyone have steps on how the above can be performed? All help will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Take care.
Mike

Re: Accessible Driving Directions?

Answered my own question. If you skip past all the
button
button
button
button
and
clickable
clickable
clickable
clickable
and all the unlabeled graphics, There is a text link to "get directions" which takes you through a cumbersome process. Or, if you search hard enough, there is a link, at least for now, to take you back to the old MapQuest. Crisis averted, for now.

Clearly if you can't see, too bad.

I'm not sure this is what you are looking for. Maybe. ...

To create a JAWS file that will speak the column names 1. Move the cursor to
the row with the column headers.
2. Press--altogether now!--insert-control-alt-c.

this creates a .jsi file in JFW. To have Excel assign bookmarks to the
column headers while using JAWS 1. Move the cursor to the row with the
headers.
2. Press alt-m, then m again.JAWS will say "define name ...'
3. Press enter.
4. Type 'column title' and press enter.

Good luck!

The thing it wants to save is not the open
document, but the template, normal.dotx, behind
it. You shouldn't lose your data. Normal.dotx
is the template you get when you open a blank
document. It has line spacing set to single,
margins an inch on all sides, and so on. I don't
know what triggers Word's opinion that I have
made changes effecting this template, and when I
have saved it out of frustration I don't find any
difference in my new documents. I have never
lost data by saying 'no'. I usually press escape
twice, which then gives me a choice to 'yes or
no' save the template, and I say no and go on
about my business. Rebooting fixes it, though.

Assisting in resource Lab.

Hello Listmembers:

As follow up to the message that I posted last evening, per the response
that I received, (thank you) using JAWS in 40 minute mode would really be a
hassle, specific to how I will be assisting clients.

As it turns out, the Americorps site where I will be working has a copy of
JFW, (will need to find out which version.)

It would make sense to install it on a dedicated computer in the Resource
Lab for my use, in working with clients.

Hello everyone:

Is there a way in browsers for Windows 7 and above to display a dialog box,
similar to that in Windows Xp. If there is, what is the procedure for doing
that.

If there is not such a procedure for doing the above, how can one change the
default download location, to one of your choice?

Thank you for any help regarding the above questions.

When you click download you hit Alt+N to decide if you want t! run or save.
Tab once and at the save button arrow down once to he save as buttun and
press Enter. On some links you can also use the context key and chose save
destatination as... but it'll only work if it's a direct link to the file.

You can tab from link to link, shift-tab to go back. With JAWS you
can put all the links into a list with insert-f7.

I use Windows 7 and Firefox.

When the download is in progress, I use the CTRL+j hotkey. This puts me
into the current and past downloads list. The current download will be
in progress.

That's my preferred method. With our Interchange program, that has about a
jillion links, the list is essential. For instance, when I want to see a
member waiver, I go into the list, and hit M 27 times--yep, 27. I have
another function that requires 29 taps, but imagine how slow scrolling would
be.

I'm wondering, is it possible for me to open a program, for example,
Atmosphere Deluxe, with Microsoft's Visual Basic Editor? The reason why I
want to do this is because I'm trying to make it accessible for
sight-impaired customers. I've tried sending an email to
support@vectormediasoftware.com, but the head developer, Nick Moulds, still
hasn't got an answer for me yet. What do I do next?

Not having any luck with this security suite. Jaws and NVDA can read
some elements but not enough to make it workable for me.

I wonder if Nod 32 uses the same interface.

Hello David,
Is this what you had in mind?

After using the Auto Graphics Labeler, you can use CTRL+INSERT+SHIFT+G to
bring up the Select Graphic to Click Dialog box. With this dialog box, you
can use your arrow keys to move through the available graphics, and then
press the TAB key to move to the OK button and press ENTER to activate the
graphic you selected.

What version of JAWS are you using?
In some versions of JAWS the JAWS cursor doesn't always work reliably. Try
the rout JAWS to PC command.

Morning all,
Using Jaws 16, newest bill, and Windows7 HP.
When working in Wordpad, and doing this for a while, Jaws will just stop
working and all the keys, naturally, stop working. It will not come back and

I then have to get out of Jaws and restart it, meaning Jaws, and then it
works for a while again.
It just gets tired. Any thoughts on what might fix this situation or has
anyone else had this issue?
Thanks,
Morey Worthington

Yes, I have been having problems for several months. I have been trying to
determine if it is JAWS or the Office 2010 program. I have come to the
conclusion that it is JAWS, because, when JAWS stops speaking, and I
continue to type, the words that I type are there. The thing that confuses
me is that, sometimes, JAWS will say, "program not responding". This makes
me think that the problem is not altogether with JAWS. I have unloaded JAWS
so many times, Restarted the computer. It is very very frustrating.

Hope someone has a wonderful solution for this issue.

I have found J 16 to be generally less stable than 15. I don't see much
worth while in upgrading to 17, unless it can be proven more stable than
16. I'll be waiting and listening for future reports.

Bill,

Could you explain what this does and why it would help? I'm having related
problems with JAWS 16 and Word 2010, though the messages I get are
different. My tech consultant and I both think the problem lies in the
interaction between JAWS and Word 2010. Unfortunately, when I switch back to
JAWS 15, the problems don't end, so perhaps there's a shared file issue as
well. JAWS repair and Office 2010 repair don't seem to do much-I've tried
both more than once since these problems began.

What this option does is to reduce the current number of tasks being
performed by the processor at a given time. It is related to Windows
Explorer. Often, when people get a message saying that a program is not
responding, this fix seems to help.

Sometimes I just unload JAWS with Insert plus F-4 and Enter and then load
JAWS again with Control + Alt + J. This seems to work for most problems and
it is the first thing I try when JAWS does not perform as I think it
should--voice getting slow or not reading the appropriate lines.

I'm not sure this is the same thing, but I have found that in Word 2003
and JAWS 15, after a few minutes, JAWS will still work, but there's a
nasty little delay that gets on my nerves. What I found is that changing
the view from "print layout" to "normal layout" makes all the
difference. I don't know if you have a similar option in Word 2010, but
I thought I'd put it out there.

Bill, do you mean the option that says show preview handlers in the preview
pane. That is the only option that I see in the options that are
presented
on my computer.

What this option does is to reduce the current number of tasks being
performed by the processor at a given time. It is related to Windows
Explorer. Often, when people get a message saying that a program is not
responding, this fix seems to help.

Bill,

Could you explain what this does and why it would help? I'm having
related problems with JAWS 16 and Word 2010, though the messages I get
are different. My tech consultant and I both think the problem lies in
the interaction between JAWS and Word 2010. Unfortunately, when I
switch back to JAWS 15, the problems don't end, so perhaps there's a
shared file issue as well. JAWS repair and Office 2010 repair don't
seem to do much-I've tried both more than once since these problems
began.

Morning all,
Using Jaws 16, newest bill, and Windows7 HP.
When working in Wordpad, and doing this for a while, Jaws will just
stop working and all the keys, naturally, stop working. It will not
come back and I then have to get out of Jaws and restart it, meaning
Jaws, and then it works for a while again.
It just gets tired. Any thoughts on what might fix this situation or
has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks,

I have mine in normal layout,
but very occasionally do have
sort of lock-up problem with
JAWS - do exactly as Barbara
said, unload and reload.
Sometimes running Spell Check,
whether I'm through or not
with an e-mail gets it all
back in sync.

Bye for now,

I'm not sure this is the same
thing, but I have found that
in Word 2003 and JAWS 15,
after a few minutes, JAWS will
still work, but there's a
nasty little delay that gets
on my nerves. What I found is
that changing the view from
"print layout" to "normal
layout" makes all the
difference. I don't know if
you have a similar option in
Word 2010, but I thought I'd
put it out there.

Other than MS Outlook, are there any other e-mail programs that people are
using that are free to download?

I have a licenced copy of MS Outlook 2010, but I had a lot of difficulty
installing it, on my new laptop, about two months ago.
I now have a back-up laptop and need an e-mail program.
Any suggestions?

I have used Thunderbird in the past and wonder, if it's gotten better?

I have Windows 7 on that laptop, with JFW 16.
Thanks.

I use Thunderbird and love it love it love it! Works very well with
Windows 7 and JAWS 15. Plus, using IMAP has never worked more smoothly.
IMAP is a way to manage your mail across multiple devices, which should
appeal to you if you have two laptops. (IMAP is kind of the opposite of
POP3.) In IMAP, the mail lives on the server, so whichever laptop you're
using, all your mail is there and available to you. I never liked the
way IMAP worked in Outlook Express, but it's been fantastic for me in
Thunderbird.

installing it, on my new laptop, about two months ago.
I now have a back-up laptop and need an e-mail program.
Any suggestions?

I have used Thunderbird in the past and wonder, if it's gotten better?

I have Windows 7 on that laptop, with JFW 16.
Thanks.

IMAP is a way to manage your mail across multiple devices, which should
appeal to you if you have two laptops. (IMAP is kind of the opposite of
POP3.) In IMAP, the mail lives on the server, so whichever laptop you're
using, all your mail is there and available to you. I never liked the way
IMAP worked in Outlook Express, but it's been fantastic for me in
Thunderbird.

If you don't want to use the cloud based e-mail, use the Mozilla
Thunderbird.

There is also Mozilla Firefox for browsing the web Firefox works very
much like Internet Explorerand it has a JAWSscript.

Both are free downloads. Go to the Mozilla web site.

in Thunderbird:

when performing a spell check on an email, is there a way to have JAWS
read the misspelled word in context, like it was in Outlook Express?

also, is it possible for JAWS to read and spell the detected word and
the suggested replacement like it used to do in Outlook Express?

Good morning,

I was typing a couple of documents, at the same time, using MS Word 2013.
Something happened a little while after those documents were done and I was
getting ready to save and send them. Not knowing what ended up happening,
I
had to turn off my computer and turn it back on again.

I brought Word back up again, hoping to find the Word Recovery area,
because
I know the files are there. At least, I was told they were there.

I can't seem to access it though. Is there a process or key command that
can get me there?

And yes.I know I should have saved way before then. There.I said it before
anyone else had the chance. <big smile>

I'd appreciate any help.

Jim

support for the program on Windows 10 I have been looking for a DVR program

It seems to me that when this setting is unchecked, Jaws should spell check

Using Jaws 16. I managed to get auto graphics labeler to work which
helps a bit. Problem is there are tree views that just say checked when
I arrow to them. I think they are acting like tabs and need to read
something else. I can get part of the program to work but not enough to
keep it.

I have a ticket with Eset but it is hard to describe the problem via
email. Need to try a phone call.

It is also hard to use with NVDA.

Not having any luck with this security suite. Jaws and NVDA can read
some elements but not enough to make it workable for me.

I wonder if Nod 32 uses the same interface.

I was typing a couple of documents, at the same time, using MS Word 2013.
Something happened a little while after those documents were done and I was
getting ready to save and send them. Not knowing what ended up happening, I
had to turn off my computer and turn it back on again.

I brought Word back up again, hoping to find the Word Recovery area, because
I know the files are there. At least, I was told they were there.

I can't seem to access it though. Is there a process or key command that
can get me there?

And yes.I know I should have saved way before then. There.I said it before
anyone else had the chance. <big smile>

I'd appreciate any help.

Jim
