Forgot to say the checkbox is unlabelled. It's the only one in the options dialog.

Does anyone know an easy way to change the email sort order in Outlook 2003?

The list view of emails has headers for each column, and a sighted user can
just click on the column header to sort by that column. But I can't find an
accessible way to get to those column headers in JAWS.

Using the current version of JAWS16. Thanks for any help.

Re: need instructions for getting started in excel

Mcginnis, Barbara

Please let me know if this helps.

Excel is a spreadsheet program that is part of the Microsoft Office package. A spreadsheet program allows you to organize data into columns and rows, analyze data and perform calculations on it.

There are three kinds of entries in spreadsheets: text, numbers and formulas.

You can use a spreadsheet to create a variety of files, including income statements, financial statements, budgets, databases and invoices.

Excel opens with a new blank workbook for you to enter and analyze data and to maintain lists of information.

An Excel file is referred to as a workbook. That is because it is like a book made up of pages. These pages are known as worksheets or spreadsheets.

A spreadsheet is made up of columns and rows. The columns are headed with alphabetic characters and the rows are headed with numbers. There are 16,384 columns. Since there are only 26 letters in the alphabet, Excel gets to columns Z and starts over with AA, AB, AC and all the way to AZ and then moves to BA. BB, BC and so forth

A small rectangle appears whenever a column and row intersects. These rectangles are known as cells. All cells have addresses. The address of the first cell in the upper left corner of the spreadsheet is column A and row 1 or A-1. The active cell has a dark box around it. When you type date, it automatically goes into the active cell.

If your hands are on the keyboard, it is faster to use keyboard navigation. Using keyboard navigation, the active cell moves with you.

The keyboard shortcuts are:

Control plus home moves to cell A
Control plus end moves to the end of data in the spreadsheet.
Home moves to the beginning or to the first cell of the row
Page down moves down one screen
Page up moves up one screen
Left, right, up, and down arrow moves one cell to the right, left, up, or down.

The fastest way to move to a cell is to use the Go To command, Control plus G. Type the cell address in the Go To dialog box and press Enter.

Entering data in a worksheet is a two-step process. One you type data in the cell, the next step is to complete the entry. If you suddenly realize that you selected the wrong cell, you may want to cancel the entry.
Pressing enter makes Excel complete the entry and the active cell moves down one row.
Pressing tab makes Excel complete the entry and the active cell moves right one column
Pressing an arrow key makes Excel complete the entry and the active cell moves in the direction of the arrow.
Pressing escape makes Excel remove any data typed in the cell and the active cell remains active.

Subject: need instructions for getting started in excel

Hi list Friends,

I am needing some basic instructions for getting started in excel. A couple of months ago, I saved some information from someone on this list pertaining to getting started in excel, however; when I tried to open the saved email, my computer says that I am trying to open MS outlook 2013, therefore, I cannot get to this information. I am using MS2010.

When I open the excel program, a table comes up in rows and columns. I know how to navigate from column to column and row to row. Do I just start creating a table as I would in doing a table in word? I am thinking there is more to this.

I write grants for our local radio reading service program, and my goal is to create a document that will reflect the amount of monies received from each foundation, indicating amount spent for each budget item requested in the grant. This is basically for my own personal use, but could also be provided to the donors if requested.

I have looked in the JAWS guides etc. and have downloaded one R&R file about columns, rows, and headers. I'm not sure if this will provide instructions for getting started in creating an excel document.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and I will save comments to just a word document instead of saving the email.

Live and learn.

Barbara Hansen

You might also request that FS to add 1 to your "install count" since you
are essentially reinstalling it onto the same machine, though now operating
with Windows 7.

If this is really not necessary, someone else on this list will correct me.
I do not like operating under false assumptions; so, this would be no

Jaws support for Problem Steps Recorder feature of Windows8 or higher.

Hello! I am using Jaws16 on Windows8 and Windows10 OS. Sometimes, I need to utilise Windows new feature, called "Problem Steps Recorder" for some hardware/software related remote assistance from engineer. However, I find it quite difficult to utilise this feature PSR with Jaws. Jaws does not seem to support this new feature of Windows8/10. Does anybody from this forum have any experience/knowledge which can improve that of mine in this regard?
Thanks and regards!

You can turn off Flash protected mode by following these steps:

1. Press Control plus l to open the Location bar, type about:config and

Arrow down the menu list, to: "Reserve your copy of Windows 10.

I never did the reserve option, but perhaps if youdo reserve then the
reminder might stop reminding you.

Another possibility, is to press DELETE when on the "get Windows 10"
button. I don't know if you can do a simple delete to the Notification
Chevron items.

problem with live365

douglas richard dexheimer

I went to the about:config page and carried out the steps; I have
youtube working in firefox, but still have a problem with live365.com.
When I go to that site, select a genre or station and hit Listen, I find
an "embedded object unavailable" message, and no sound is heard--the
embedded player stays silent. also the page keeps refreshing, indicated
by the constant clicking sound present since installing webvisum.
anyone else having trouble with live365? thanks.

such as persistent hangs or plugin crashes. This is especially true for
users on Windows touchscreen devices and for users who use accessibility
tools.

You can turn off Flash protected mode by following these steps:

1. Press Control plus l to open the Location bar, type about:config and
press Enter.

. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may
appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the
about:config page.

2. Search for

dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode

in the list of preferences.

3. Press Enter on the preference to toggle its value from false to true.

4. Press CONTROL plus W to close the about:config window.

5. Close Firefox, and re-launch Firefox for the new setting to take effect.

I'm curious about turning off Flash and why we should disable it. Didn't
know labels worked better in Youtube without it. Thing is do we disable
or set to ask to activate?

I decided to look in to this. Found a checkbox for Flash in Firefox
that wasn't labeled so I read more and found something we should know
about. I'll paste it below without comment.

No, it's not a security issue. Like I said, if you had said you were

I have noticed that Firefox seems to crash a bit with video embedded
sites lately. Honestly, what I've found that helped me was installing
an add-on called Adblock. I installed it at the recommendation of a
friend, but when I did, almost all my crashing problems stopped. You
can download it at www.getadblock.com if you want it. It has fixed
most of my issues.

I'll get a message like "embedded object unavailable." why would

did those sites work in earlier ff versions on my older windows xp

That should work. I thought you were going to say the buttons weren't
reading for you correctly, because that is often the case with
Firefox.
Flash reads
better with Internet Explorer. If you're getting a message that
Flash is
disabled, it suggests that there is a security flaw in Flash and
Firefox
is blocking
access to it until Adobe releases a patched version of Flash. If it's
crashing, that's a beast of another color.

Re: Problem With Page Sequencing In Word 2010 Documents

Tom, I'd really encourage you to adopt Ann's suggestion, then go into print mode. In print mode, you are shown exactly how the document will appear.

Ok, Ann.

Thanks.

I'm going to try this approach out when I get the chance here.

Then, if all else fails, I'll try to permanently set Word to read in Draft
mode as a few others have suggested.

Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions.

I truly appreciate this list.

Yes. I believe I remember the zoom setting somehow includes two pages or
one page. On the status line,. It makes your life a lot easier to set it
to one page. I prefer to work in print view, not draft view.

Go to the status bar with f6. There is a zoom setting that says
something about two pages. That needs to be set to one page. I don't
have Office on this machine so can't give you more than that.

I don't know if this would fix the issue or not.

Others have suggested permanently setting word to open documents in draft
view, or setting the zoom function to a one-page view.

I think I'll try these strategies first, and if they don't work, I'll try
adjusting the print view, as you suggest.
